Edith stiffened because of these words, as if all the blood in her body had curdled. 

This offer was simply too tantalizing. 

If she became Carlos‘ wife, she would be “Mrs. President” of Lawstom. She would be superior to Vanessa in the future, and the latter would never be able to frame her again. 

Moreover, she and Simon had never consummated their marriage. They had never even met. Of all the members of the Lawson family, she had seen Carlos the most. Furthermore, the two of them got along well.
