Feral Wolf
Chapter 11

A wolf’s sense of smell was up to 100,000 times greater than humans’ sense of smell. In our world, a wolf can smell something a mile away—to a wolf the scent was an effective communication. It can tell you if the werewolf was a rogue or which pack they are from. The most distinctive smell that every werewolf seeks and longs for was the one of their mate.

I never knew how addicting it was until I met mine. If I could bask in his scent all day, I would. It was just a natural woodsy smell but it was so pungent when he was around me.

Now that he had me in his arms, all I could do was become weak in his arms. His hooded eyes were looking down at me hungrily like I was a meal he would like a taste of. My tongue darted out to wet my lips and my eyes dropped to his perfectly shaped cream lips.

“Alpha.” Isis interrupted and I pushed away from Brontes’ alluring embrace and swallowed hard to contain my need.

“You can stop sucking her face.” Alpha Altair barked in annoyance as he moved closer to us. His face contorted with a little fury.

“She’s mine.” Brontes growled out. “If I’m going to suck her face, it is mine to suck.”

“Nobody is sucking nobody’s face.” I gritted out.

Brontes turned towards me, a smile tugging at his lips, before Isis spoke again.

“You did a great job, Alpha Brontes.” Isis congratulated. “The fight was tough but you did great!”

Some pack warriors came by to murmur their congratulations but surprisingly Brontes didn’t freak out. Instead he smiled and nodded his thanks to them all. I wonder if his wolf has finally started to comprehend that this was now his pack.

“Okay, so let’s go have lunch together, eh?” Isis clapped her hands as she broke apart the two males who were eyeing each other like they wanted to kill each other.

I looked around and saw many pack warriors had left, wanting to give us privacy. At the entrance of the pack house I saw the young pup I saved yesterday. Distracted, I began walking towards him, taking myself away from their conversation. Brontes’s familiar scent wrapped around me indicating he was following close behind.

When I reached the pup he looked scared. His eyes darted between Brontes and I. I crouched down to his level and propped my arms on my knees so that I would at least not look scary. A soft smile played on my lips.

“Hey there.” I said gently. “I’m sorry you had to see what happened yesterday.”

“Why did you kill him?” The pup asked, tears streaming down his face.

I sighed and adjusted my position slightly before speaking, “A father shouldn’t hurt his pup like that. A father should be the one to protect you from harm. He should love you.”

The pup went quiet as he pondered over what I just said and then he looked at Brontes as he spoke.

“Are you a father?” he asked. Brontes gave him a soft smile and rubbed the back of his neck before looking at me.

“No, not yet.“He said to the boy and then his eyes flickered back to me. I chewed my bottom lip at his answer and the look in his eyes.

“What is your name?” I asked.

“Achilles.” He answered. I moved to grab hold of his hand. He didn’t run or flinch away this time. I wrapped my hand around his tiny fingers.

“Achilles, how about you go have lunch with Brontes and I?” I asked. His eyes lit up and his stomach grumbled. I heard Brontes chuckle and then he moved to go grab Achilles’s other hand.

We turned around and headed back into the pack house. Achilles was quiet but he turned to Brontes and they started talking about the fighting that happened earlier. Apparently, Achilles was very interested and wanted to learn as soon as possible but werewolves don’t train until they have shifted or when they reach the age of ten.

When we reached the table, my parents sat to my right followed by my Beta and on my left sat my mate and my Gamma. The order has always been that way, the reason why was simple, the highly respected wolves in the pack acted as my right hand. Alpha Altair and his warriors also sat alongside with Isis. My left has to be the mate who sits due to where my heart and the vein leading my heart was located. He acts as my lifeline and the protector of my heart. It has been a tradition for centuries.

We did make an exception though. We squeezed a chair in between Alecto and Brontes as it seems Achilles has developed an attachment to Brontes. They sat next to each other talking and laughing. When I glanced down at the table I saw that Clara was looking at Brontes with longing. A stab of jealousy vibrated through me.

As if Brontes could sense my change in mood he turned to look at me. I returned my focus back to my plate of food and talked to my father and Isis about border patrol.

When we were done, Achilles did not want to sleep with the other pups. He asked Brontes if he could sleep in Brontes’ room. Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the FindNʘᴠᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Achilles, warriors should be strong.” Brontes stated simply, puffing out his chest. Achilles did the same thing. “You have to be there with the other pups to help protect them. If you aren’t there, who will be there to protect them?”

“You’re right.” Achilles said immediately. “I can’t stay with you, Brontes. I have to sleep with the rest of the pups. I will see you tomorrow though?”

Brontes broke into a grin as I moved to his side. He wrapped his arm around my waist possessively. The tingling feeling spread from his hand all over my waist and hip.

“Of course. I will see you tomorrow.”

Achilles nodded and ran after the rest of the pups to the nursery floor. Brontes and I walked up the steps to our floor in silence until I spoke up.

“You are really good with him.” I said.

“He needs someone there for him. I guess he grew attached to me.” Brontes turned his head to look at me slightly. “Just like I am attached to you, mate.”

The way he says the word mate has my body humming with happiness and pride. It was the highest of titles to be recognized and acknowledged by your mate. When we reached our bedroom doors it was a lot harder for me to let him go. We stood together in silence until I finally spoke.

“Well good night.” I murmured before turning to go to my door. He spun me around and pinned me to the door as his lips came down on mine. This kiss was soft and gentle. He took his time tasting my mouth with his tongue. My hands wound up in his hair as he deepened the kiss.

When we broke up, he said, “Good night.”
