Chapter Eleven

Hartley sat on the blanket when she felt a big gust of wind blow past her, Justin stood with Bullet, “Hartley!” he squeals pulling her into a hug “I went to go get some help because I thought you might have been having a seizure or something but then when I came back you were gone and I started to freak out and oh my god I am so happy you are okay” he cheers tightening his embrace.

Confused Hartley hugged him back lightly “What happened?” Bullet asks, Hartley gulps as she noticed the slight cold look Bullet was giving her.

“I just went to look for you” she says slowly.

“Where did you go?” Bullet asks sceptically

“Just, around” Hartley says shrugging before she shivered coldly.

“We should get you back” Justin mutters before turning to his sister “do you mind if I take Hartley back first?” he asks and she shakes her head.

When Hartley arrived back to their new base she went straight to the couch she slept on and collapsed tiredly, but for some reason found herself unable to sleep.

“What are you not telling us?” she hears Bullet ask and she sits up to look at her confused “Your mind, there are blank spots, you know something and you’re not telling me”

Hartley looked down “nothing” she whispers and Bullet moves to sit beside her on the couch, she gave her a look and Hartley sighs “Justin, I know his real name isn’t that” she mutters “Harrison” Hartley looks up to Bullet “he told me” she said oddly convincingly “and I know your real name is Alecia because he called you that on the phone once” she laughs quietly.

Bullet nods “My name is Alecia Thomas, I married Brett Thomas, my little brother is Harrison Daniels” she says and Hartley smiles, as for once in the whole time she had been here somebody was being open with her.

“Do you know Kit and Doc’s real names?” Hartley asks curiously and Bullet nods.

“Allen Parker is Doc’s real name and Christian Bane is Kit’s” Hartley covers her mouth to laugh and she notices her ring was missing from her finger “You alright?” Bullet asks and Hartley nods.

“Yeah” she sighs “Everything is fine”

Kit sat in the basement of the house tapping loudly on the keys to his laptop as he worked. The skinny man which they had caught earlier was passed out, slumped against a couple of boxes for comfort.

Kit was trying to assure that The Association wouldn’t be able to track them down so soon but as he hits enter the screen to his laptop goes black and his eyes go wide “Oh no” he whispers attempting to switch it back on, instead a face appears on his screen, a face he wished he could forget. “Tech” he growls and the young boy on screen pouts playfully.

A smile soon taking over that pout “Oh brother, don’t sound so happy to see me” Tech giggles “I’m sorry about this by the way, but we can’t have you blocking me out from all of this very juicy data, now can we?” Techs face falters but soon returns to normal, he now had his eyes closed and he took in a huge breath “The girl really is a keeper. isn’t she?” he says happily, licking his lips intently “If we were only ten years older, am I right?” he jokes, but Kit does not laugh,

Kit goes to close his laptop but he found himself unable to look away from his twin’s face. “Why don’t you stop being such a coward and fight me face to face?” Kit yells quietly, not wanting to wake anyone from upstairs. Tech chuckles slightly and wipes his eyes.

“I’m not going to fall for that one again brother” his face glitches away again “Now I did come here to tell you something” he says stroking his chin pretending to be deep in thought “Ah yes, now I remember” he takes in a deep breath and smiles evilly “Do you smell that?” he asks before the screen blacks out again.

Kit jumps up making sure not to fall and when he takes in a deep breath he could smell smoke. Quickly running back down to the house he goes to wake everyone only to find Bullet, Shooter and Hartley fighting against Scratch and Claw, Doc was in the corner, his eyes were wide and brimmed with tears, only Kit knew why.

Dodging the fighting Kit runs straight to Doc trying to bring him out of his current panicked state. “Doc, Doc you need to help us!” Kit pleads but Doc keeps his eyes glued forward murmuring words of nonsense to himself, his left hand pressed against the burnt side of his face.

Kit crawls up onto a chair and slaps Doc as hard as he could across the face bringing him back to the present, Doc looks forward and he sees the fighting his jaw clenches and his hand reaches into his pocket. He hands Kit a piece of paper ‘Just like old times hey hun xx’ Kit looks up to Doc who now had his eyes closed, he knew what was coming next.

Doc took two long strides forward “Leave now” he says sternly, causing both the creatures to snarl, their crooked teeth at him and attempted to launch forward. Doc puts his hand out telling them to wait before his eyes open and two bright white lights come from it almost blinding everyone in the room.

There were two loud and mangled screams, which sounded like Scratch and Claw before a lot of crashing. Doc closes his eyes and the creatures were gone “We need to leave now” Doc orders and everyone got up and ran out of the smoke-filled house.

“Oh no” Bullet whimpers as she covers her mouth stopping herself from crying, Shooter is by her side in a blink of an eye and he comforts her whispering what seemed to be soothing things into her ear.

Hartley runs to Doc “What about the guy in the basement!” she asks grabbing his arm tightly, he looked down to her with red eyes.

“He’s gone” he says shortly before turning away and walking towards Mertle.
