Fight for Me
Camping

Nick’s POV

Just great. For the past couple of days, I’ve had an added frustration to my restless nights, - in the form of my dick-head of a wolf. If he’s not constantly nagging me about our ’mate’ he puts these perverted thoughts of her in my head.

It’s annoying the fuck out of me. She’s human for fuck’s sake. She’ll snap like a twig. Not to mention, she’s practically a child. If it wasn’t for her mature curves, I would have thought that she was a child. But she’s still so small compared to me.

But fucking hell, even as I try to argue against this, I still get turned on with just the thought of my hands on her. But I can’t. We already agreed.

It’s what’s best for her. I have too much blood dripping from my hands and too many enemies to count. Having a human Luna will draw my enemies out, and I cannot put her through that, I cannot put my pack through that. After decades of endless battles with other packs and with the humans, we’re finally at a fair level of peace.

And now I’m sitting here in my office like some jealous teenager, because Layla’s going camping with Cody and a few of his friends. I know Cody just sees her as a friend, but his friends are something else. They’re just horny teenagers, and the fact that they’re unmated makes things worse.

I know I’m not supposed to care. I don’t want to be a hypocrite. But dammit to hell. She’s still my mate, and any Alpha has a pretty huge ego when it comes to what’s ’supposed’ to be his.

I was so ready to push myself into those plans, but I’m just going to be a stick in the mud among those kids and frankly, I can’t slack on my Alpha duties because of something like this.

It’s just for a couple of days, and the cabin is still on my property and not that far away. This is what I have to keep telling myself.

But she keeps drawing attention. Even Rebecca is asking about her.

Maybe having her away from here will do me some good, and maybe stop everyone else from asking questions.

Layla’s POV

I’m so excited about the camp. It’s not an official camp, like in tents and stuff. But even a cabin sounds pretty cool.

I love camping. My dad always used to take us camping when I was younger, before my accident. They freaked out after that and stopped. But I still missed being out in nature.

Cody invited a few of his friends and cousins. We’re about twelve right now and I definitely do not remember all of their names. But at least my home-boy Cody isn’t leaving me hanging.

They all seem pretty great. Aside from the random PDA sessions. Apparently, they don’t do fixed relationships, which is just another way of saying they don’t do monogamy. But Cody says it’s normal among wolves, as they’re all very sexual creatures yet very committed to ending up with their mates. So they fool around as much as they can before finding their mates.

A few though have said that they prefer to not join the STD crowd. I spit my beer at hearing that. At least I don’t need to feel like the odd one out now. Cody even warned all the guys to stay away from me.

It’s already late at night and we’re having a bonfire behind a hill, a few miles away from the cabin. We came to watch the sunset, and it was amazing.

Right now, I’m trying to listen to some of the guys trying to tell ghost stories.

It was more hilarious than scary seeing buff men telling stories so theatrically. But I did get a bit nervous when I started hearing noises of cracked twigs behind me. For a second, I thought I saw the shadow from the corner of my eye, but it was too dark to tell. I didn’t know if it was just one of them that was helping out with this trick in trying to scare us. But nobody else seemed to notice it. But then again, a lot of them were already tipsy if not wasted.

I stuck to my beer, but many went a little wild with their hard liquor. Apparently, they don’t always get the chance to let loose.

“You okay? It’s just a story, you know.” Cody leans towards me.

“Did you hear that though? In the woods?” I whisper back, pointing behind me.

He furrows his brows. He looks over his shoulder as if focusing to see or hear something. But his eyes immediately widen and he grabs me by the shoulder throwing me down to the ground.

“ROGUES!!” Cody shouts as I see a large wolf jumping over my seat and into the crowd.

I just hear people shouting, wolves coming from everywhere, and many of them shifting into their own wolves.

I can’t tell who is who, but Cody is still next to me.

He pulls me up and runs, dragging me by my hand. I don’t know where we’re going, but I know I’ll be safe with him. It’s so dark, I’m so thankful the moon is out to help me see through the dark woods.

But the growling noises coming from all around us is not helping my nerves. Not because I’m scared for my life, but because I’m scared for Cody’s. I don’t want him getting hurt because of me.

He’s practically dragging me with his wolf speed, but at least his training has helped me improve my stamina.

He suddenly leans to the side dragging me down, as a wolf lunges over us through the air. Just as we get up, another wolf reveals himself with his crazed eyes.

“Shit.” I hear Cody say under his breath. “Layla, run.” He says softly under his breath.

Before I can even look at him confused, he pushes me forward and I just run. Looking back over my shoulder I see him shift as the other wolves attack him.

I’m barely out of his sight when I see a wolf lunging at me. I just duck and roll as the momentum carries me. But looking up from the ground, I see the wolf snapping at me. Someone isn’t happy.

I know the basic weak points to attack a shifter, but I have no weapons on me what so ever. What am I supposed to do now, - poke his eyes out?

I reach over to pick up a rock fairly bigger than my hand. The moment the wolf sees it, he charges.

I can only do damage close range, but I still have to fight against teeth and claws. This is going to hurt.

Just as the wolf runs towards me, I charge at him too, running full speed. Seeing his jaws open to bite me, I hit him as hard as I can on the side of the head, near the ear. I fall hard to the ground, but I hear the wolf yelp. I know I did some damage. But I took a lot too. One of my fingers definitely hit one of his teeth and I can feel warmth on my chest. But before I can even dwell on that, I get up trying to make most of my adrenaline.

The wolf is trying to get up, but I jump him from behind throwing him back onto the ground. I use the force of my fall to hit him on the head again. Yelp. I hit again. Yelp. I hit him, over and over and over on the head. Blood is already splattering on me and all over his face. But I don’t stop. I can still feel him clawing against my legs.

I’m practically out of breath when I no longer hear him and his limbs go limp. Finally dropping the rock, I look down at my bloody state.

The damn wolf clawed at my chest straight through my shirt and bra, and I’m bleeding. It looks deep too, definitely going to leave a scar.

I slowly get up, trying to cover my chest. But out of nowhere, I’m thrown to the ground by another wolf. I can barely make sense of what’s happening when I feel his teeth around my throat.

Oh shit!

I try pulling at its jaws as I kick under him.

But I already feel the warm liquid flow over my skin and in my throat, when I hear a snap.

And all I see is darkness.
