Her POV

The ride back wasn’t bad. It was dead silent but that didn’t bother me. It’s better than having to force conversation. I even got a little nap in, but that was more a distraction from a frustrated Alpha next to me.

I never thought I would actually be a fated mate to an Alpha. I mean, what is this? I know my life is tough, but whose isn’t? I’m not some damsel in distress that needs some big strong caveman to hit all my problems away.

But yeah, him rejecting me so bluntly because of things I have no control over really stung. Don’t men know not to mess with a woman’s self-esteem and feelings. Lucky for him, I’ve had years of experience in dealing with things that hurt, physically and emotionally. Otherwise, I would have gone all psycho ‘murder becomes her’ bad bitch crazy on him.

But at least he’s helping me out right now. He might not know it, but he’s saving my life with this. A month should be enough for their trace on me to go cold. I’m sure whatever trackers they send after me this time, won’t think that I’m hiding in a wolf pack.

Right now, Mr. Big bad Alpha is leading me to my room somewhere upstairs. I’ve heard of pack houses being big, and honestly, I have seen a couple. But this is just insane. This place is massive. It literally looks like a castle.

But from this view, I can't help but appreciate his figure. It's no secret that all shifters have some beauty gene in them, making them the embodiment of Greek gods and goddesses. But for goodness sake, couldn't he at least have been fat or bald. I need anything to make him less attractive in my eyes. Usually when it comes to shifters I just find my distraction and annoyance in their cocky attitudes. They usually tend to be full of themselves. But this shifter, and an Alpha no less, barely even speaks. Where am I supposed to find my distraction now?

I'll just have to admire his physique when he's not looking to get my fill, hoping this pull will stop feeling like gravity towards him.

“Here.” He finally stops and opens a door. “This is one of the guest rooms closest to mine. So I’ll still be able to tell if you get up to nonsense.”

I just roll my eyes as I walk in. But before I can admire the beauty in front of me a low growl comes from behind me.

But I must say, this room is gorgeous. I know it’s probably one of the smaller rooms in the house, but its princess style reminds me a lot of my room when I was younger. Daddy always said I was his princess and wanted to make my room fit for one.

I can’t help but smile at the memory.

“This is amazing. Thanks.” I turn around and look at him.

But he almost seems a bit shocked. I don’t know if it’s something I said, or that’s on my face. But he quickly straightens himself as he clears his throat.

“It’s pretty late already. So, you get some sleep. We can discuss your ’duties’ tomorrow. Breakfast is served from seven.”

He turns to walk out but stops at the door and looks at me.

“I never asked. What’s your name?”

I guess he does have some manners. I smile.

“My name’s Layla. What’s yours?”

“It’s Nicholas. But you should call me Alpha.” He says with a serious tone.

Really? Alpha? There is no way in hell I’m calling him Alpha. This is not some ‘master’ and the ‘slave’ episode of my life. And I’ve had worse.

“Sure.” I say with a split-second exaggerated smile.

When he closes the door, I drop my bag and run and dive onto the bed. Its fluffiness catches me like a cloud of pillows. I can’t help but giggle at the feeling. I haven’t felt like this in years.

I even have my own bathroom. At least I now where I’m going first. I’m sure I still have some ash smudged on me from the fire.

A month of this does seem like heaven. I’ll be sure to make every second count.
