Figment of Dreams
Double Crossed

My alarm went off and I slapped it away from me with a grunt. It was Saturday but I needed to go study in the library in the morning. The afternoon was fully booked with Oak and I going to this art event in Rivellin.

The first thing I checked was my phone. Jax was supposed to look into the SD drive yesterday evening when he was at his father’s estate. I had several texts but none from him. Two from Sebastian, telling me I was the hottest girl he has ever met and asking me on a date on Saturday. One from Asher, telling me he has bought me new running shoes. Oak had sent me some new book recommendations. Skylark telling me a very graphic story about last night. The last one was from Dosch. It was just a black heart. Cute but weird.

I got dressed for the day and was about to head out when Jax stood at my door. Brooding and gorgeous as always.

‘Hey?’ I said surprised to see him.

‘This is a joke right?’ Waving the USB in my hand.

I frowned.

‘It’s an entire stick filled with pictures of Scorpios in different colors.’

The realization hit me like a brick wall. Dosch had played me.

Oak had dropped me off from our afternoon away together. He had lifted my mood a little this afternoon. We had talked some more about the Ash thing and I had decided to let Ash go a little.

I explained to Oak, that Ash was my best friend and I could never fully let him go. Since I had Sebastian and Dosch vying for my attention, I could play it off as if I was more interested in them and try to not lose asher in the process.

It was early evening and I was getting ready to run away my anger at Dosch. I was confronting him tomorrow. If i saw him right now, i would kill him.

I ran towards the woods, through Scorpio territory, and spotted him with his crew on the benches as usual. I tried to ignore him but failed, when all of them hooted and hollered at me.

‘Carina!’ he yelled.

As if he wasn’t aware I knew? What was he trying to prove?

I was ignoring him… ignoring him.. you can do it, Lux! I had even jogged passed the entire thing. Until the rage in me exploded.

I turned on my heel, fists clenched. I saw red and stormed towards him so hard and aggressively that all the big bad gangsters hollered in amusement but parted like the red sea for me.

I clocked his smirking ass so hard my fist screamed in pain but it was worth it. I had knocked him straight off the table and he had not seen it coming. I was hauled up in the air forcefully by Marcus all the while kicking and cursing at him. I was not yet crying which I was proud of.

‘Damn Carina.’ He smirked up at me from the ground. Swiping the blood off his mouth with his thumb with an oddly proud look on his face. Marcus was grabbing me hard and I was bucking into him, i kicked his shin, and elbowed his gut with a grunt. He was down for the count.

I ran forward again, determined to pummel Dom’s smirking ass into the grass a few more times when Mourad elbowed me in the chest so hard It knocked the breath out of me and I choked, i grasped my chest and fell to my knees, hard.

‘MOURAD!’ Dosch screamed with such a menace that all the other Scorpio’s scurried away like rats into the night. Dosch rose and grabbed the big guy by the vest.

‘If you ever lay one finger on her again I’m going to cut you up in so many pieces they will not be able to put all of you together again. You understand?’ he yelled so loudly, his accent thick, Marcus flinched, and even though he was almost twice his size, he was afraid.

‘Yes, boss.’ He replied solemnly.

‘Now leave us.’

‘But boss.’

‘LEAVE!’

I was still in pain. He might have broken my collarbone. I was breathing hard and weezing. I needed a painkiller, or a dozen to stop this right now.

‘Carina…’ he knelt down and grabbed my face.

‘Good god it hurts…’ I moaned. I couldn’t even think straight from it. I gasped for breath.

His face was still bleeding. ‘I have a painkiller with me.’ He grabbed his needle and plunged it in my arm without asking and it was instant relief.

I sagged against him, groggy from the extremely powerful formula. ‘I’m so angry at you.’ I whispered. He hugged me against his chest and kissed my forehead. ‘I know Carina.’

‘Why…?’ I sobbed. ‘I trusted you and…-’

He kissed my forehead softly.

‘It is for your own protection. Scorpios are funded by Elia, Lux. I need to protect our main money giver.’

I blinked at him, so hurt that he would choose money over me.

‘Don’t look at me like that, Carina.’ He was even forming some regret in those dark brown eyes. ‘It’s business.’

‘I’m no good for you baby. Dios Mio, you should stay far away for me.’ He answered like that was dealt with and I shrugged him off.

’You took a chance away from me Dosch. You betrayed me. I’m not forgetting this.’

I gave him the Rainer answer which meant, I owed him one betrayal back and he was going to not feel this coming. Eye for an eye.

‘Looking forward to seeing your revenge, Carina.’ He kissed my forehead tenderly, raised me up, and walked away into the night.

‘Goodbye.’
