Fire On Fire
Chapter Twelve - Fire

I rubbed my wrists still trying to wrap my head around how this happened.

How'd I free myself?

Nevermind that. Now's not the time to ask too many questions.

I've got to get out of here. This is my chance. I've got to get to Ace...How I'd give anything to see those comforting eyes, those guarded eyes I'd recognized from the mirror.

I just wanted him to hold me, and I knew that was crazy I barely knew him but the little time I'd been with him, I'd felt something I'd never felt before.

I started walking in a random direction.

It was dark and it seemed to get darker the further away I walked. I could barely see my own hands. There was no light at all, not even a crack.

I continued walking and almost gasped when I saw a little slit of light signaling a door.

I raced toward it stopping short right in front of the door. There were voices, talking in hushed tones.

Why would there be a room in the middle of ...all this..? It doesn't seem like a place where someone would want to be living unless it's being used for something else...?

Before I finished that thought the door swung open revealing a tall man

...wait...THAT THING THAT WAS CHASING ME !? I gasped and took a step back attempting to get away as he smirked. His jagged teeth striking fear in me. I didn't get far as strong icy hands curled their fingers around my wrist and throat, a familiar iciness. Of course...it was HIM, HE pulled me through the mirror , HE chased me and he...he took me away from my only ticket home!

In an instant I was flung into and across the room. Pain shot through me as my back hit a stone wall. I tumbled onto the ground, a painful mess.

Coughing and wheezing I tried lifting my head up but when I did my vision was blurry.

I could only make out two figures. One big and unnatural, the other tiny and petite.

After a few minutes of having the whole room spin and Coughing up blood, my vision started clearing up.

I could now see more clearly. Sᴇaʀch Thᴇ FɪndNovᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

The other figure was a very petite woman with long snowy hair that cascaded down to her hips. Her skin was tanned and her eyes were a golden color that had a ghostly look behind them. She was dressed regal, in a long pink floor length floral dress, dotted with white rose petals. Resting elegantly on her head, a beautifully crafted golden crown.

That's when I noticed her ears that seemed bigger and sharper than the ones in the village I saw earlier. An Elf.

She smiled at me, but there was no warmth there. I felt a shiver run down my spine as I moved my back closer to the stone wall behind me. The pain was gone due to the fact that I was scared for my life at that moment. They didn't look like they wanted to have a tea party with me. The way they stared me down, it was like a pack of hungry wolves that had finally cornered a dear.

She took slow, measured steps towards me, heals clicking on the stone floor until she was right in front of me. I gulped. I've got to do something, come on Ava think!

He's your fuel.

She crouched down to my level and studied me, cocking her head to the side in curiosity. She extended her hand out to brush my hair out of my face.

I winced at the deathly cold touch of her skin. It was barely a brush but it felt like I had died for a second. Not even being dramatic this time. Is this what death feels like ?

While she just stayed there and studied me, a plan was formulating in my head.

I knew what I had to do, but I wasn't sure it'd work...I had to just trust myself.

She stood up abruptly.

"This one will do" She said, her voice sounding melodic but venomous. As she turned around I picked up a nearby brick and swung it over her head. She fell to the ground immediately. Great.

Now what about hellhound on steroids' here ? Didn't think that far Ava. Dumbass.

I Stood there, with what I imagined to be was the queen at my feet, unconscious. Oh you really fucked up this time Ava.

I held the brick tighter in my hand as the creature fumed and growled. This is it Ava, fight or flight. My heart was pounding out of my chest and my hands were shaking with fear. He noticed and smirked as he stalked towards me. I let out a deep breath and got ready to whack his head with the brick.

He rolled his shoulders and I could hear his muscles popping and shifting. God, I'm gonna die aren't I ? and I haven't even had sex yet or better yet, kissed anyone.

Does a peck count ?

As he reached me and lifted up a huge, hairy clawed hand, everything seemed to move in slow motion. I lifted up the brick and swung it, as it was about to hit his head and his claws were about to slash my throat a deep rumble rippled through the room.

My heart sped up and there was a blinding light. I shut my eyes and jerked my head back, trying to shield my face, dropping the brick in the process.

I could barely open my eyes as a wave of heat rippled through the coolness and the chill in the air.

A loud roar filled my ears and I looked toward the sound just in time to see a wave of fire burn through the whole room. The creature growled and turned around, as he did the fire enveloped him. I watched in horror as he turned to crisp.

The fire was now headed toward me. It all happened so fast. When the fire reached me I braced myself for the impact but all I felt was warmth. Like a blanket.
