Chapter 12 ~ You Are a Hero

Evander’s POV ~

After I left Adrianna in our room, I mind linked Dad to meet me in my office. Mom showed up with him.. so I poured us all a drink. We sat down and I asked “Well, what do you think?”

My mom responded “She’s lovely, honey. I love her already. She’s been hurt, though. It lives in her eyes. I will just love her through it.. especially on her bad days”

Dad said “She’s all piss and vinegar.. spit and fire! She doesn’t trust in love, easily. When she does give her heart away, it’s forever. Donnaugh can feel her fear of never being accepted.. not fitting in.”

When I told them what the council had told her.. and then what Hicks had tried pulling.. Dad was even more pissed off. Then, I told him I had pulled our support.. he said “Good! That seat on the council was to placate the dragons because of the way they handled the Michaelson situation. Fuck them! We govern ourselves!”

Mom said “There will be repercussions, regardless. I will get started right now.. I want to be prepared to counteract anything they try throwing at us” Once she had walked out, I poured us each another drink and Dad said “Are you planning on locating and destroying other testing facilities?”

I nodded “I have to, Dad! They nearly killed my mate! She’s the only one who survived all their testing! They will be coming for her, unless I stop them.”

He nodded and said “You have my full support! Anything you need.. you know that! Let’s end the bastards before they can actually weaponize a shifter! This world can live without that!”

As he finished saying that, Adrianna joined us. She is just too precious. All girl.. until she’s a raging inferno of vengeance! My little paradox!

We got through the pack meeting.. and dinner. Now we have to meet the techs and find out what we need to know! Adrianna is ready. She is determined to end this! Mom is drafting lawsuits against the human government for covert operations against shifters.

Dad said “I want to take this to the public.. I am just not sure how to do it without implicating my new daughter.. suggestions?”

Adrianna said “File the suit as a direct result of my father’s abduction and torture. We have the video surveillance of the attack a month ago.. it clearly shows the humans attacking.. slamming us with wolfsbane bombs to prevent our wolves shifting. Killing defenseless women and children.”

Mom looked up “Are you shitting me? I need that evidence! I will file a class action in civil court for the victims.. what about the shifters you rescued when you escaped? Can you contact them?”

At her nod, Mom yelled “Oh! We have them by the short and curlies! How soon can we get that surveillance footage?” Adrianna dialed her dad and as soon as he answered, her face lit up like a Christmas tree.. he asked “Missed me already, pumpkin?” She nodded at him, still grinning.. She said “Daddy, I’m putting you on my laptop.. I want you to meet Evander’s parents.”

Once it was set up, and introductions were made.. Mom told him what she was needing.. and he replied “Let me know when the press conference is set up.. if anything, I can join you in a video call.. I am not trusting the council at the moment, and I am leery of being away from the pack. What’s your email and I will send you all the surveillance’s video I have.. there’s six different angles.”

Once we had ended the call and the emails started coming in.. the techs got the big screen set up.. and just as we started watching, Adrianna said “It’s not pretty. It’s sickening. And, I’m nervous.. because you will see how dangerous I am.”

I hugged her to me and said “We can be dangerous together baby. Nothing.. absolutely Nothing..can change how I feel.”

The first video was playing.. it showed the alarms going off.. the gates being blown open. Twenty militarized vehicles rushed the lake.. with foot soldiers running behind. At least two hundred humans forced their way into Luna Lake.. firing flashbangs and wolfsbane bombs into residences and into groups of warriors.

Then we see Adrianna.. darting through the trees.. never stopping. She ripped off limbs.. took out knees.. snapped spines.. and Fuck me! Decapitated a half dozen before anyone spotted her.

The humans were dragging women from cabins.. children.. just shooting them where they landed. Adrianna grabbed the leader.. I’m assuming.. and bit into his throat, ripping out his jugular. Then someone shot her. She flinched and stumbled back. Then she started running at her shooter.. he emptied his clip into her.. but she kept coming. Reaching him, she punched her fist into his chest and tore his heart out.

The video ended with them loading an unconscious Abram into a truck and Adrianna crawling into the Lake.

My mom stood up and pulled Adrianna into her arms and just held her.. whispering “My brave, brave girl! You saved that ungrateful pack that day! You are a hero!”
