Chapter 20 Celia, Have You Been Married?

The two of them locked eyes in silence, refraining from speaking.

Celia was uncertain how long he had been waiting at the doorway and how much he had overheard. She didn’t think it was relevant, though, because they were talking about meaningless relics from the past.

The nurse was so upset that she couldn’t stop crying.

Celia comforted her, saying, “Stop crying, I’ll explain everything to your superiors. I’m sure they won’t fire you.”

The nurse looked at her with tears in her eyes and apologized profusely, saying, “Dr. Lynn, I’m sorry that I doubted you just now. I will always look up to you as my role model.”

Celia smiled sweetly as she patted the nurse on the head and suggested, “Why don’t you go and freshen up? I’m worried people will think I mistreated you.”

The nurse nodded, dried her eyes, and then walked away.

Initially, Celia intended to leave as well, but the man standing before her continued to gaze at her, causing her to pause and meet his gaze. “What’s the matter?” she asked.

Dominic said, “Your behavior just now reminded me of the old times. You can put on a convincing facade.”

He referred to

how Celia had patiently comforted the nurse.

Celia felt the urge to laugh. “Perhaps I can act well in front of you, but not in front of others.”

Dominic’s brows wrinkled in thought.

Celia didn’t want to say anything else. Following her usual routine, she continued, “Arthur Dawson is now out of danger, so you can transfer him to another hospital for further treatment. But I can’t guarantee a smooth discharge

process.”

Celia wanted to punch Arthur in the face because of his recent behavior, which. irritated her to no end.

Dominic reached out and grabbed Celia’s hand as she started to leave after she finished talking.

With disdain evident on her face, Celia attempted to free herself from Dominic’s. grip. He interjected before she could utter a word, “I overheard everything you two were saying in there.”

“Oh,” Celia responded indifferently, as she didn’t think it was a big deal.

Dominic glanced towards the ward door, then directed his gaze back at Celia, a trace of bewilderment in his eyes. “I didn’t know what Arthur had done to make things hard for you,” he said.

Calmly, Celia replied, “What difference does it make now that you know?”

Dominic fell into silence for a few seconds, appearing to ponder her question before saying, “He is the legitimate member of the Dawson family, and my grandfather tasked me with taking care of him.”

Celia sneered, “I see, just like when you agreed when your grandfather asked you to marry me.”

Dominic had always held his grandfather in high regard, which explained why he married Celia.

Celia wasn’t upset because she was merely reporting what she had observed.

However, his gaze became even more intense.

She shook off Dominic’s hand and briskly walked away.

To her, despite having been in each other’s lives for a decade, Dominic was nothing more than a stranger.

He married her due to his grandfather’s command, and she married him to fulfill a mission. Neither of them felt indebted to each other or posed obstacles.

After Celia left, Dominic stood in place for a long while, with Leon silently standing behind him.

Dominic started walking after he had been sitting still for some time thinking, but he walked away from the hospital room rather than going in.

Leon couldn’t hold back the urge to ask, “Mr. Dawson, don’t you want to go in. and see how is Arthur doing?”

Dominic maintained his composure and replied, “She said Arthur is fine now, so he won’t have any problems.”

“Oh,” Leon responded. In his thoughts, he contemplated, “Mr. Dawson genuinely

trusts Celia. Celia’s words made him reconsider going to see Arthur after his grandfather requested it.”

However, Leon had no idea about the difficulties Celia had faced in the past and believed that Arthur had gone too far.

Suddenly, Dominic halted in his tracks. His voice seemed introspective as he murmured, “Was it because of this that she left?”

Surprised by Dominic’s remark, Leon quickly comprehended its implications and rushed to say, “It’s possible, Mr. Dawson. You know how volatile Arthur’s temperament can be. If he sets out to make someone’s life difficult, he doesn’t. easily let them off the hook. Just now, you saw his arrogance towards Mrs. Dawson. I think it indicates that he may have caused her a lot of trouble before. But, because of you…”

Leon realized he had said something he shouldn’t have and stopped. mid–sentence.

Dominic lowered his gaze and let out a self–deprecating laugh. “I am not a qualified husband. I even gave the person who bullied her the highest position in the company.”

Dominic assumed she had been through a lot of hardship in the past.

Leon wanted to offer reassurance, but he found it difficult to find the right words, as the truth of the situation weighed heavily on their minds.

After much thought, Leon said, “Mr. Dawson, you shouldn’t say something like that. You went to such lengths because you genuinely care about your grandfather’s happiness. Mrs. Dawson must understand your actions because she never complained about it in all these years.”

Dominic sneered once more, this time with an undertone of irony. “Does that mean she won’t feel disappointed?”  Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the Find_Nøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

trouble.

“Go throw out all those pieces of evidence,” Dominic said casually,

Leon was taken aback, immediately grasping what Dominic implied. His eyes widened in astonishment as he exclaimed, “But, Mr. Dawson, if I do that, your grandfather will surely become angry. You…”

“I owe her,” Dominic said, looking in the direction Celia had gone. “She spent at

decade of her life with me, so I should give her something in return. It doesn’t

matter.”

Leon swallowed hard, suddenly feeling that he couldn’t completely comprehend Mr. Dawson anymore. They’ve been divorced for such a long time! Now that he knows about her situation back then, he immediately stands up for her? This goes against Mr. Dawson’s usual style,” he pondered.

However, considering all the suffering she endured in the past, Leon thought it seemed appropriate for Mr. Dawson to support her.

After exiting the crowd, Celia sneezed a few times out of the blue. She felt her pulse and questioned whether she had a cold. But everything appeared to be normal, so she didn’t think much of it.

Celia didn’t require any major surgery the next day, so she had a good rest in her new house.

Chelsea happened to be free in the evening, so she brought a bunch of ingredients to cook for Celia.

“Celia, just take a well–deserved rest and leave everything to me,” Chelsea advised.

Chelsea was an excellent cook with a pleasant personality. Once she stepped foot in the kitchen, she busied herself with preparations while Tammy washed the vegetables nearby.

Celia, despite feeling tired and yawning, joined Chelsea in the kitchen. Her surgical expertise and keen knife skills impressed Chelsea, who cheerfully applauded her.

“Celia, your hands are truly beautiful. You can absolutely be a hand model. May I touch them?” Chelsea playfully joked.

Celia smiled and rolled her eyes before reaching out a hand. “Of course, you

can.”

Unable to resist, Chelsea playfully grabbed Celia’s fingers and chuckled, “I cannot fathom who would be fortunate enough to marry such an amazing woman like you and place a ring on your finger… Oh, wait, why do you have marks on your fingers?”

She pointed directly at Celia’s ring finger.

Celia paused, realizing that it was the indents left by the ring she used to wear.

The ring Dominic gave her was small for her because it was initially intended for

Grace.

Wearing an ill–fitting ring for an extended duration had slightly deformed her finger, and the marks were still clearly visible even though six years had passed, Chelsea was also taken aback because she recognized the mark as a result of wearing an ill–fitting ring. “Celia, have you ever been married?”

Maintaining her composure, Celia responded calmly, “Yes, I was married, but I am divorced now.”

Chelsea suppressed her lip between her teeth, her eyes widening with surprise as she stared at Celia. “You got married and never even told me? I didn’t even give you my blessings.

Celia shook her head because there was no way she could talk to Chelsea about Dominic.

Tears welled up in Chelsea’s eyes as her voice trembled. “You…”
