Chapter 68 – Oakley

I just stare at Lisa for a second, dumbfounded and unsure how to respond. “Are… are you serious?” I stutter out.

She nods solemnly. “They had a fallout over while they were both here at camp. I don’t know exactly what happened ‘between them. Mother never said what went down. All I know is that my mother blamed yours for losing her happiness. And she knew that you would be brought here. Me as well. Apparently they were both quite powerful. She made me hate your mom and, when she found out that I was coming here, she kind of…sicced me on you.”

I hold my hands up. I can’t take anymore for right now. I just need her to stop talking so that I have time to process. Luckily for me, Lisa obliges. I slowly walk to the side of the path and sit on the grass away from the main walkway. It’s not that I really care about other people finding out. It’s not my bitterness that caused issues. No, this is just that I need processing time and sitting in the middle of the walkway is not the best place to do that.

“So, our moms were…are twins. And they both came here to train to be Elite 10 warriors. My mom got in and yours didn’t. Could that be the happiness that she lost? Being a part of the Elite 10?” task.

“I really don’t know.” Though she says that, her expression shows that she doesn’t think that I’m right. “I mean, she fulfilled her prophecy. She made it so that every pack began accepting every she-wolf into warrior training that wanted to go in. So, it’s not like she didn’t have a fulfilling life. She got her second-chance mate after she accomplished that and had me and my siblings. She has a very full life. But she still holds this bitterness towards your mom.”

“So, what? She turned you against me. When you found me here you spent your time trying to make my life miserable?” 1 ask, incredulous and kind of pi ssed.

She cringes, but nods.

“What the hell, Lisa? Like, are you that much of a push over?” I ask

“Look, I dare you to grow up with your mother spitting out this vitriol and then not follow through with what she said when you had the chance!” she says a little hotly.

“Couldn’t. My mom left us when I was a little kid. You at least had a mom there! Do you realize that if your mom had been part of the Elite 10, that’s what would have happened to you? She just would have left one day and you would never know why? I couldn’t even remember her face, her voice until she came to me in that dream a couple weeks ago?” I hadn’t realized that I was screaming until I stop talking. Tears are starting to slide down my cheeks and I angrily wipe them away, taking a deep breath as I try to calm myself. In a quieter and, hopefully calmer, voice, I say, “Why are you telling me all this?”

Lisa’s face, which had remained calm, if full of regret, up until now becomes a riot of emotion. Anger, fear, sadness, and hope. “…I don’t want to be mad at you anymore. As much as we haven’t been friends, you’ve helped me multiple times throughout our time here. I just…I’d rather have you as a friend. If things keep going the way that they are right now, we’re going to be in the Elite 10 together for however long our pack can stay together. I’d like for us to get along.” Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the (ꜰind)ɴʘvel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Huh. That’s Interesting. “LI don’t know. It’s kind of a lot to ask, after everything…”

“I know,” she deflates. “I just…can we not have so much animosity between us? Not the constant digging at each other? I know that you and I are not likely to ever be besties, but can we at least be ok with each other?”

“Yeah,” I say slowly, but then respond with more certainty. “Yeah, we can at least be nice to each other.”

Lisa gives a little smile. Thanks. And if you want to know anything about our family, like my siblings or our grandparents… I’d be happy to tell you.”

Chapter 68 – Oakley

I stare at her and realize that there’s so much I lost when the Goddess chose not just me, but my mother for warriors. She took away our family, our security, and the fate that we had within our packs. I could have had a happy life, with a mate that cared for me, with cousins and grandparents, in another pack. I could have been a luna and protected my pack. Still had my mother, father, and brothers. Maybe have been pregnant with a pup of my own by now.

And, suddenly, I’m extremely angry. Not just for me, but for my mates, my family, and my friends. Because we lost everything because of the Goddess. Mary is broken hearted outside of the castle, not able to go back to her pack or have the comfort of her twin brother. All alone. Jer ry is in the cells, having hurt his friends and mate to the point that she’s in the hospital, Cassie had to choose between a second chance mate, Mary, and her dream of being a part of the Elite 10, then was rejected by an unprecedented third mate. Lisa lost both of her mates. Levi lost his luna. My father and brothers lost their family. And Ray is waiting to see if I will accept or reject him.

I sucks and it’s the worst torture that the Goddess could visit upon us. I can’t sit here and just stew in this

“Thanks, Lisa. But I need a minute. I’m not mad at you, just the situation, ok? I grit out, getting up and heading to the training area.

“What do I tell Ray?” she asks as I walk away.

“Tell him I had something to work out!” I call over my shoulder and then run towards the sparing field. There are life-sized. training dummies there for me to punch the s hit out of and that’s exactly what I need to do right now. Just beat the absolute tar out of something.

That’s where Harry finds me about 20 minutes later. The

For that w

was in my b*dy leads to a good burn while I kick, punch, slam, and claw at the dummy in front of me. Though they are made out of vinyl, the seams are starting to burst and foam is spilling out.

“I think it’s dead,” he says behind me..

I turn to him, having smelled him before he started talking. “What do you want, Harry? I’m really not in the mood to rehash.

what you’re pis sed off about. I got my own sh it to deal with right now.” I turn away from him, grabbing a bottle of water from the cooler that is refilled every day.

“Not rehashing anything. Just here to help out. Looks like you have beaten the sh it out that training dummy. How about I pad up and we spar? Give you something that can take the hits a little better?” he suggests

I smile. It’s a guy’s apology. Not actually saying that they’re sorry, just moving on. And it’s just what I need right now.

He nods to me and goes to grab all the pads.

In no time, he’s using his were speed to block and deflect my fists, elbows, knees, and feet. He’s right, it’s much more

satisfying to hit something that can actually move. There’s give and take, resistance and the utter satisfaction of his grunts and groans when I hit him.

And by the end, I’m feeling so much better. And I have my friend back.
