Chapter 18

On that evening Kyle heard a knock coming from the front door and opened it seeing Grace but not the happy expression he was used to seeing but a more somber one.

“Grace?” Kyle asked. “You okay?”

“I felt that you were the only one I could talk to right now that would understand,” she said. “Can I come in?”

“Of course, you can come with me into the living room.”

Kyle ushered her into the house taking her to the living room couch where they both sat down.

“What’s up?”

“Dan and I were out today on a date. Everything was going well. He was showing me how he made the water in a pool dance until...”

“Until what?”

“There was a guy, some runner, who came by and tried to pull me away from Dan spewing how humans shouldn’t be with Terrans and how he was trying to protect me. Dan tried to stop him where it got violent. Dan pushed him backwards where the guy fell on the ground and started insulting him. Terrans are going to take over the Earth nonsense. He was going to punch Dan but instead he froze in place and started bleeding from his nose. With how aggressive Dan looked it appeared he caused it to happen. I was able to stop him though.”

“Was the runner okay?”

“Yeah, thankfully, he just stood up and walked off a bit disoriented.”

Kyle sat back letting everything absorb into his head as Grace looked on.

“Are you good, Kyle?”

“Yeah, Dan has always been irritated with the way we’ve been treated ever since we came to Earth like we were always second class citizens,” he said. “It feels like I am seeing him less now from the moment he joined the sky surfing team and has been hanging out with the team more often.”

“I’m really afraid for him,” she said soberly. “I could only imagine what would have happened if the runner died.”

“I assume it would have been handled collectively by the high council and the local police.”

Kyle walked her back to the door giving her a hug. “Don’t worry, I will try to talk to him.”

“Thanks Kyle,” she said, walking out the door. “The sooner the better.”

Kyle was afraid for the day that Dan would push his powers too far where fortunately he was always on hand to reel him in if he got too out of control but this time it was completely different.
