Chapter 452

Everything was like a script polished and rehearsed to perfection.

The sordid footage of Elspeth overdosing in the lounge had just been leaked, and the cops were on her like hawks, swooping in for the arrest.

The big screen cut to the action at that very moment. Elspeth’s face was a mask of mania and despair as she wet herself and was hauled away by the police, her mortifying moment projected in a massive close–up for all to see.

Back during her days in showbiz, she was green with envy of Myra, the leading lady who always got the close–ups, whose face everyone remembered. She too had yearned for the day when she’d receive such attention. Now, she had it. And her infamous breakdown would be the talk of the town, her name etched in history as gossip fodder.

“Good lord. Did Elspeth just pee herself? The high–and–mighty socialite scared to that extent by a few beat cops? Hilarious. Talk about a fall from grace!” “Are you daft? That’s not from fear; that’s a side effect of the drugs!”

“I’m telling ya, this isn’t Elspeth’s first rodeo with the cops. With the Abernathy Group backing her, even if she gets nabbed, they won’t just stand by. What’s she got to fear? I bet she just couldn’t hold it in! How mortifying, haha, I’d rather die than suffering embarrassment!”

As the police dragged Elspeth away, she trembled, her urine continuing to drip shamefully to the floor.

‘Frederic, save me. I’m innocent. I’ve been framed! Frederic!”

Frederic, staring at the d*rty puddle and Elspeth’s pitiful state, was too shocked for words. His wife was constantly resetting his expectations, pushing his limits!

“Mr. Frederic Abernathy, I tried to cut the feed, but the Chambers family was blocking our guys from the control.room. Seems like this was a setup, including the police presence,” Dennis whispered to Frederic

“Set up by whom?!” Frederic demanded, his voice tense.

“I’m not sure yet, but I’ll get to the bottom of this.”

Frederic’s mind was a buzz of confusion, but amidst the chaos, he recalled an incident from over two decades ago.

At TVC’s anniversary gala, Myra had suffered the same public humiliation as Elspeth, live on air! As a VIP guest, he and Emeric had witnessed the whole thing.

Myra’s downfall due to the “doping scandal” was public knowledge. Rumors said she’d been driven to severe depression, with multiple suicide attempts. It was only Emeric’s unwavering support and treatment abroad that helped her escape the dark shadows of despair,

Now, Elspeth’s nightmare unfolded before the audience, and Frederic couldn’t help but sense a carefully orchestrated revenge. His furious and resentful gaze instinctively found Evadne.

Coincidentally, Evadne–and Thaddeus were exchanging loving glances, smiling triumphantly. Her sly, beautiful eyes and barely concealed smile of victory were an insult to him, a blinding offense.

“Your timing was impeccable,” Evadne squinted her charming eyes, bumping Thaddeus with her shoulder.

His heart melted at her touch, and he gazed at her warmly, “All thanks to your guidance.”

Evadne blushed at his cheesy words, her face turning a rosy shade of embarrassment,

“If it wasn’t for the groundwork you laid, this arrest wouldn’t have been so spectacularly over the top. My Evadne has done a great service; I’m just here to assist,” Thaddeus’s eyes softened with affection, his heart fluttering, wondering how to properly thank her.

Tonight, he’d have to go the extra mile to show her his love. No, he’d cherish her for a lifetime:

“But I just heard from the cops that they arrested her on drug charges.” Evadne was puzzled.

Thaddeus’s gaze deepened, “Let’s talk more at home. I’ll explain my plan in detail.”

Elspeth’s arrest caught everyone off guard, except the young couple. Even Cassius was stunned, shooting his little sister a look of astonishment, while Evadne cheekily responded with a wink.

Emeric wrapped his arms around Myra who was shivering, asking softly, “Did that scare you?” Despite Elspeth’s just desserts being satisfying, he was concerned about stirring up her past traumas.

“Emeric, I’m not as fragile as you think, and I’ve waited far too long for this day,” Myra stepped away from Emeric and approached Evadne, her eyes intense with gratitude.

“Evadne, thank you.”

Evadne blinked innocently, feigning ignorance, “What are you talking about, Myra? I didn’t do anything.”

“I understand, I know.” Myra’s eyes brimmed with tears as she tightly grasped Evadne’s hand, “Evadne, I’ll be in your debt forever. I can never repay you. But as long as I live, I will try my best.”

“This is karma; Elspeth’s getting what she deserves. Don’t worry, Myra. Just get a good night’s sleep when you go back home, take Nydia on a trip abroad, and I’ll keep you updated on what happens here. I have a feeling another great show is about to unfold. Elspeth’s bad luck is far from over,” Evadne didn’t take credit, but her words hinted at more to come.

From a discreet corner, Avery watched with a dark gaze, adjusting his glasses.

“What do you make of this?”

Harvey’s eyes flickered with thought, his voice low, “I’d bet it’s a trap set by Ms. Ashbourne and Thaddeus. They’ve got a deep grudge against Elspeth, and they’d surely want to make her suffer.”

“How’s Eden faring?” Avery abruptly shifted gears.

“Our guys have been keeping a close eye on him. He’s still in Elmsworth.”

Avery let out a sinister chuckle, curling his fingers so tightly that his knuckles turned white, I think it’s about time we get him out of Elmsworth.”

Harvey was taken aback, “But Eden had some pretty outrageous demands before, asking for money, even a private jet. Didn’t you say to keep him on ice for now? Why the sudden.”

“Give it to him. Whatever he wants, he gets. Just make sure he leaves Elmsworth,” Avery said with unyielding determination.

Harvey’s eyes widened in sudden comprehension, and he nodded with gritted teeth, “I get your drift now, Mr. Chambers.”

As the big screen in the center of the racetrack went dark, the excited chatter among the crowd didn’t subside.

Barry, seizing the moment of confusion, gave Gary a knowing look.

Gary promptly sl*pped away unnoticed to approach William and his son with a grin, saying, “Mr. William Morris, Mr. Ford Morris, you’ve come all this way; the Fairhaven family would be honored to extend our hospitality and make sure you leave more than satisfied with your visit. Besides, with this mess that’s just unfolded, I bet Mr. Jeff Chambers and Mr. Frederic Abernathy will be too tied up to attend to you. Why not come back with us to relax for a

bit?”

As William hesitated, Thaddeus’s voice, sharp and commanding like a drawn sword, cut through the noise, “Mr. Barry Fairhaven, Mr. Gary Fairhaven, planning to make a run for it? Ha, the mighty Fairhaven Group, so renowned far and wide. Turns out they’re nothing but fair–weather friends, scaredycats at the first sign of trouble.”

“Scaredy–cats?! Thaddeus, who are you calling that? Speak clearly!” Gary bellowed, his face turning crimson with fury.

Everyone was stunned, their mouth agape! Emeric berating Elspeth was one thing – after all, she had it coming, and as a powerhouse on par with Chairman Abernathy, even wealthier than the Abernathy Group, he could scold whoever he pleased.

But how dare Thaddeus, a mere junior, do the same? How would he face the Fairhaven family in the future? Didn’t he fear their retribution?

Evadne’s gaze locked onto Thaddeus, her heartbeat accelerating. She made up her mind that even if Thaddeus managed to offend all of Elmsworth, she’d stand by his side, for better or worse.

With her support, she’d like to see who’d dare cross her man!

Barry, blinded by rage, slammed his walking stick on the ground, “Mr. Frederic Abernathy! Won’t you control your son? Are you going to let him spout such insolent and disrespectful words to his elders?!”

Thaddeus, exuding a chilling aura as if he’d just stepped out of a battlefield, smiled with a hint of menace, “If you act the part of an elder, you’re worthy of my respect. But if you turn a blind eye to injustice, trying to shield a murderer, then don’t blame me for not recognizing our ties.”

“Thaddeus, shut up!” Frederic glared furiously..

“Today, you have two choices – either discipline your people on your own, or let me handle it my way, fully and finally,” Thaddeus ignored the outrage, his oppressive gaze slowly shifting to Edith’s face.

Edith trembled with fear, her expensive gown soaked with cold sweat. Why was he looking at her? Did he suspect her?  Sᴇaʀch Thᴇ Findɴovel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

No, she hadn’t lifted a finger in the whole affair, hadn’t even been near the stables – it was all Duke’s doing. She had nothing to do with it!

“Fine! You want to investigate, then let’s do it thoroughly!”

Barry gritted his teeth, his tone carrying a chilling threat, “But you’d better find proof that it was someone from the Fairhaven family. If not, Thaddeus, don’t blame us for not showing any mercy!“.

Thaddeus coolly curled his l*p. He didn’t even consider the entire Fairhaven Group a threat; why would he care about some old man’s words?

Yet Evadne couldn’t help but worry for him- she hadn’t been involved and had no idea whether he actually had any evidence.

As the manager of the racetrack, Matthew could only dispatch his staff to retrieve all the surveillance footage from the stables as quickly as possible.

Soon, the footage from all the cameras was laid out before them. Regrettably, despite the clear footage from numerous cameras, Wind’s position in the stables was awkwardly situated in the far corner of zone D – a partial blind spot in the surveillance.

They could even see a shadow cast on a pile of hay, obscured by the bulky frames of the horses, making it impossible to see the face of the person in question!

The situation reached a deadlock.

Duke breathed a sigh of relief, while Edith, hidden away, smirked with the satisfaction of having narrowly escaped being caught.

“Ha, so you have no evidence after all, just barking around blindly?”

Gary couldn’t help but laugh mockingly, “No witnesses, no surveillance, and yet you’re so sure it’s someone from the Fairhaven family. Thaddeus, I get you want to fight for Ms. Ashbourne’s honor, but maybe you should consider whether you’re picking a fight with someone out of your league!”
