When Thaddeus pulled up to the BBQ joint, Evadne and the man had already skedaddled.

He clamped his lips together, his face stiff at the memory of that photo of Evadne and the guy getting all cozy.

Standing there, he felt like such a chump.

He was worried, but also doubting himself.

Evadne had been eating at this sketchy place past midnight with a guy who seemed dodgy as hell. Didn’t she have a clue how dangerous that could be?

Suddenly his phone buzzed. It was an unknown number.

Thaddeus exhaled and answered, “Who’s this?”

“Is this Mr. Thaddeus?” Came the female voice from the other end.

“Yeah, it’s me.”

“This is the Eastern District Branch of Elmsworth Public Security Bureau. Is Gordon a relative of yours?”

Thaddeus frowned, “He’s my secretary. What’s up?”

“We need you to swing by our office. We’ll fill you in when you get here.”

The events of the night could only be described as surreal.

Thaddeus was pis sed. He couldn’t see past the young man in front of him, thinking he was just pursuing Evadne.

Hearing this, Aaron laughed, “You being a CEO with that kind of IQ is a true miracle.”

Thaddeus bit back, “A ‘service industry’ guy strolling into a police station and playing the victim, I really admire your guts.”

Aaron was taken aback.

What the hell was this guy talking about? ‘Service industry’? Did he look that frivolous?

Just then, two policemen happened to pa** by, saluting as they saw Aaron.

“Hey, cold-blooded CEO. I’m warning you, we are at police station. If you mess with my sister, I’ll slap cuffs on you.”

“You’re an Ashbourne, then you must know about me and Evadne.”

Drawing a deep breath, Thaddeus suppressed his rage and shot back, “When she was my wife, we respected each other. Now, you have even less reason to be overly concerned.”

“That remains to be seen. Aaron scoffed, “In cases I’ve handled, men who stalk their ex-wives after divorce are either psychos or killers. Never a normal

one.”

Thaddeus was left speechless.

Back in the secluded area behind the station, Evadne and Thaddeus stood face to face, their shadows stretching out under the dim light.

“Thaddeus.”

“Are you drunk?”

Without waiting for Evadne to finish, Thaddeus stepped closer, his large frame blocking out the remaining light.

Caught off guard, Evadne moved back against the wall as he bent down to smell her hair, murmuring, “This man is strong. How much do you think you can handle? Remember that night at the KTV when you got plastered? In our three years of marriage, you never touched a drop.”

“My tolerance is good. I never get drunk. I’ve always loved drinking, life is dull without it. You just never really knew me.” Evadne’s eyes flashed coldly, and she retreated a step back against the wall.
