“Gosh, Lance, you look awful. It would be best if you rested at home. Stop worrying about the company.” Nydia poured him some water and urged him to take care of himself.
Lance smiled and shook his head, looking at her kindly. “Nydia, it’s been hard on you all these years.” He had this guilty face.
Nydia pursed her lips and lowered her eyes, listening quietly. She was gentle and docile, unlike her usual hedgehog self.
“We feel guilty for burdening the Sharp Group’s survival on you. I wish we had had another choice than making you marry Cade.” Lance’s voice trembled helplessly with sorrow.
Nydia’s eyes reddened, but she still lifted her head and smiled indifferently, “Please don’t say Lance. I’m fine. I’m lucky and grateful to have you guys.”

Lance held her cold hand and tried to warm it in his palms. Then he got to his point. “I believe you’ve seen the news. This time is different. It’s no longer groundless conjecture. She immediately thought of Josephine. She was docile around Cade. And he dug that.
Lance said a lot about how to maintain a good relationship with Cade so he would help them in the company. Nydia always took his advice. Besides, she knew this was the only way that could work at the moment.
To ask Cade for a favor, she had to see him first. But she didn’t want to go to the hospital. With Josephine around, any serious topic would be sure to become a bullshit emotional matter. And she had been losing to Josephine on that for five years. So, she decided to cook a meal for Cade at home and talk with him in a quiet space.
She called Cade the next day after work, but no one answered.
So she sent him a message on WhatsApp, saying, [Come home early. We need to talk.]
Then, she drove to the supermarket and bought many of Cade’s favorite food.
Josephine leaned back on the bed at St. Lawrence Hospital, her eyes staring straight at the cell phone
lying quietly on the edge of the bed. It was Cade’s phone.
