“It wasn’t like that at all, it was just a simple kiss,” I lied, shrugging my shoulders to alleviate the situation.

“Look, there are more excuses you’re making up, while the hickey on your neck 

gives you away! What’s wrong with Richard?”

“Then why don’t you want to try him?” 

I don’t want to be a complete jerk to him! I don’t want to use him! Furthermore, I 

almost shouted this at her, but I just sighed and said, “Can you tell me how I cover 

this purple on my neck, or will I have to go look it up on the internet?” 

“Ah, wanting to replace me with G****e?” 

“At least G****e doesn’t bother me,” I told her. 

“I’m just trying to help you, silly. Now take some foundation and gently rub it on your neck,” she sighed gratefully, running to do what she was instructing me. 

Moments later, my neck seemed to be white again without a stain because of the makeup it covered. “Now it’s better,” she said, as the call was now video. 

“I don’t know, girl. I’m not sure… what if the foundation fades?” 

“If your foundation fades, it’s because your makeup is cheap,” she scoffed, then laughed at me. “But it’s cold today, the weather is good for a scarf.” 

I agreed with the idea of going to get a scarf that matched my outfit, and only then. could I leave the house, but I didn’t stop talking to my friend,

“But you practically work at the same company, it’s impossible for you guys not to see each other today,” she continued to insist 

“I hope he doesn’t show up today because there’s nothing important for him today at the launch of the new Nemesis clothing line for the winter season. Jason works in business administration, he’s only used to making important decisions that would change an entire company. Why would he waste his precious time coming to watch the launch of a clothing line?” 

“Considering that Jason Davies is a madman who has constantly done unimaginable crazy things to get your attention, like buying a restaurant in which you had unresolved issues, buying the company that was going to provide your marketing services, and practically buying and manipulating everything and everyone around.

It was as if my soul wanted to connect with him and to do so, I was pulling myself closer and closer to him. I wanted so badly to call him, to at least hear his voice and feel like he was close to me again. 

After five years, I had felt it again, and now that the feeling had returned with more force, I couldn’t help it, so whether I wanted it or not, Ava was right. I really should do everything to avoid my ex–husband. 

“Jason won’t show up at Nemesis today, Ava. He promised me he’d stay away from me, the kiss wasn’t in vain, okay?” I told her. 

“Okay, since you’re so sure,” she said finally, making me sigh in relief.
