I sat on the examination table silently, not saying a word. Doctor Swanson did the ultra sound and a few other things then left to get the results, so now I sit waiting.

Sebastian is sitting in the seat beside the table with his arms crossed. I can tell he's tired and so am I. We were both up until at least three in the morning, now we're at the doctors office at eight. My eyes droop down and I'm sure there's bags under them the size of tea bags. I can't help but yawn every minute or so, even when the ultra sound was being performed.

Slowly I rock back and forth on the table before giving up and laying down on my side. Just when I get comfortable the door swings open and a groan slips my lips.

"Let's take a look." Doctor Swanson mutters with the results in her hands. "The baby is definitely growing faster then normal, which I can now confirm was the cause of the cramping. Everything looks normal besides the growth rate, and to be honest, I'm not sure why."

"So, the baby is just a fast grower?" I mumble with my head resting on my arm. "That sounds okay to me."

"I don't know what kind of complications it can lead to later in the pregnancy, just because it's alright now doesn't mean it will be further on. Even now you're experiencing cramps, which might even get more painful."

"So what are you saying?" Sebastian finally speaks, grabbing my attention.

"I'm saying we're walking in unknown territory, we'll just have to take it day by day and be extra careful."

The car ride home was also quiet, as we both spent the time thinking. I may not know what Sebastian is thinking about, but he has his thinking look on.

Rain drizzles down from the sky and I watch it slap against the road. It's gloomy out today and I can't help but blame my poor mood on the weather. When we make it back on pack grounds I signal for Sebastian to stop the car. "Can you drop me off at my dads?" I ask. "I need to talk to him."

He nods and soon enough the car pulls up in front of his place. I take my time getting out of the car and shutting the door. "Do you want me to wait?" sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FɪndNøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

"No," I wave him off, "I'll walk home."

I make my way to the front door and I firmly knock. A few moments later my fathers depressed, tired face appears. "Evangeline?" He says, surprised.

"We need to talk."

Every curtain is closed in the small house, defending any natural light from pouring in. The living room is dimly lit by a lamp in the corner resting on a side table. He leads me inside and I hesitantly take a seat on one of the living chairs beside the couch. I wait a moment before speaking, "I've been worried about you, I just didn't know how... how are you?"

"It's been a long two months." He leans back against the couch and takes a deep breath. "Your mother, she haunts my mind."

"I forgive you for what you did."

"I know leaving her made you-"

"No," I cut him off, taking the role as the leader, "I forgive you for locking me in the attic. I forgive you for sending me off with my grandmother. I forgive you for thinking I was crazy."

He stays silent, but I can tell he's uncomfortable.

"Dad, I'm pregnant." I informally announce.

His hands stay folded on his lap as he slowly nods. "Kids, they're a lot of responsibility."

"I know."

More silence falls between us.

"I'm leaving Evangeline, I'm going to go stay with my brother in North Dakota. I know Alpha Tate will care for you and keep you safe, and when you go back tell him thank you for the hospitality-"

"You're not staying? You don't want to meet your grandchild?" My voice is somewhat urgent.

"I need to move on, and my brother, he's planning on starting a new pack."

I take a deep breath and my gaze turns stern. "A new pack, how? The newest pack there is is almost sixty years old, a new pack hasn't been started in decades."

"I know, but it's something he has planned on doing for a while and I want to be there to help him."

"Which brother?" I ask with my temper rising.

"Your uncle Jeremy."

"I didn't know I even had an uncle Jeremy!" My anger has gotten the best of me.

"Evangeline, I know you're upset-"

"Upset? I'm horrified! After all these years of abandonment we're finally together again and all you want is to leave me!" I shout and get up from my seat. "What are you running from? Mom?"

"You're too young to understand, you don't know how this feels."

"How it feels to loose your mate?" I mutter. "I may not but I want to be there for you. Imagine what mom would think if she knew you were running off to North Dakota."

"She knew, she was coming with me."

I stop and grab onto the living chair to steady my balance. "You were both going? She wanted a fresh start, she wanted to pretend I didn't exist too?"

He stands up and reaches out for me but I'm quick to move back. "We weren't trying to forget you Evangeline, we love you."

"Only enough to save my life, but not to live it with me." I coldly glare at him. "The guilt of my death would probably eat you alive."

"Don't talk like this."

"When are you leaving?" I ask while avoiding his eyes.

He pauses for a moment and his the tone in his voice drops. "Tomorrow."

"Were you even going to tell me, or were you just going to disappear?"

My father doesn't answer.

"I'm done here, have a nice trip." I turn away and head for the door, but I freeze for a second. "Don't come crawling back here when your new pack falls."

With that I let myself out and slam the door behind me. It pains me to know I'll never see my father again, but I'll get over it, I always do.

Tears gather in my eyes as I quickly walk down the path way leading towards the pack house. A part of me hoped that I would hear him calling out for me, but it never came.

I have no one left, my grandmother is missing, my mother is dead, and now my father is abandoning me yet again. "Please, just let Sebastian and our child be permanent, please don't let them ever leave me." I mumble to myself as I continue down the path. Wind brushes past my cheeks and I cross my arms for warmth. I can't wait to get home and see my true family waiting for me, my mate, Henry, Marina, and Fiona, I feel like they're the only people I can trust.

I'm going to have this baby, and we're going to be happy.

I will finally be happy.
