Imperium: Volume 2
Chapter 2.

"You got this June. Just like you've been practising."

I looked at Raeve, as he reassured me, we would get through this. This new surge technique we had been working on has taken months to get down. If I was going to help in the efforts of vanquishing the refugees, I needed to help in a way that didn't kill them.

My main objective was to catch them by surprise with an energy tremor, and knock them down, until our men would blast through the fence. All the while still fielding them as they moved forward. It was a winning scenario, where the enemy would be our only targets killed and the prisoners would be freed.

We had already been hiding in the tree line for about 30 minutes, waiting for the refugees to get up from their 5:30 morning wakeup call. Thanks to Raeve scouting out the place the last couple days, we were able to get a good sense of their routine.

"You ready? The replacement just swapped out at the watch tower, which means they'll be making their way out shortly." Raeve told me.

I nodded, and he signaled the rest of the group to get ready. I took in a couple breathes to calm my nerves, while everyone got into position. Johansson got ready with a bomb that would help with the entry at the fence, and Kipsky and the others would then move in.

I looked at Raeve one last time, who gave me a nod, and got in position.

"Bunker down. This is gonna get heavy." I told the others.

I walked out from the tree line once I saw the soldier in the watch tower was looking the other way.

I let out a long exhale. "Here we go." I said to myself. I took in a deep breath and closed my eyes so I could focus on the placement of my energy.

I felt it start in my stomach and had it radiate throughout my body, before sending it up to my upper body. I held it there till it weighed heavy, and sent the pulse down to my feet, sending a massive tremor and shockwave to the compound.

Johansson threw the bomb towards the fence line, and they took to the front.

I built up another surge, and sent it down, as Raeve teleported to the watch tower, taking care of the poor soul who stood there. I could feel the energy envelope me, as I stood there at the tree line.

I looked down and saw our men and woman take down Dominion soldiers one by one.

While scanning the foreground I saw refugees running towards the middle fleeing. One of the officers was shooting at them, walking away from the fight. I took a step forward to take care of him.

Someone get him. I thought to myself.

That's when I saw a young boy in front of him a couple bunk houses down. Run........run....I quickly built up another surge and released it, to knock the officer over. It worked momentarily, but he was back up within seconds. I started running towards the compound.

"Raeve!!" I yelled.

He quickly saw me running towards something but couldn't see what I was seeing. Then I heard the shot.

I was using up all my energy, so I couldn't place a field on him. I watched as the boy fell in the distance. I then grabbed a gun from a soldier who lay dead on the ground, and was making my way to the officer until I saw him turn to his right and heard shots. Then what I saw was one of his own men shooting him in the chest.

I watched as he ran over to the boy, and rolled him over. I could see the tears streaming down his face. I stood there watching, and a shot from behind me struck him in the neck killing him. I turned to see who took the shot but couldn't tell who it was.

At this point our team was finishing the last of the soldiers and the sound of gun fire was dieing down.

I walked over to the little boy who lay on the ground. Just a tiny little thing. I didn't even understand why they had children in these camps. So harmless.

I could hear gasping coming from the officer who killed him. It looked like the soldier who shot him, mainly got his bullet proof vest.

So I did him the favour by finishing the bastard off by placing another to his head. I was walking away when I heard more gasping. I turned to the officer, who definantley looked dead. I walked closer to the boys body, and the gasping came from the soldier who was next to him.

Then all of a sudden his body shot up. He threw himself to his knees and had his hand on his bloody throat trying to grasp for air.

"June." Raeve said as he reached me. I held up my hand to tell him to wait for a moment.

I continued to watch as the soldier was finally able to get that breath he was fighting so hard for. Some colour returned to his face and the shot he took to the neck was replaced with a scar.

"He's an Imperium." I said surprised.

I looked to his tag and read out his name. "Mathers."

It got his attention. He slowly looked up to me and was almost studying my face. The look on his was surprise and confusion, which was exactly what I was feeling. Why was an Imperium fighting for The Dominion?

Either way we were going to have to take him with us. We couldnt have him running back to his base, telling our little secret. I looked at the gun in my hand and flipped it over, and knocked him out with the hilt of the gun.

I turned around, where Kipsky and Johansson were now standing. I looked to them.

"Take him back to base." They looked at eachother sharing a look, then went and grabbed him.

I was walking back through the middle of the bunk houses, looking at the dead refugees the bastard shot. I doubled checked each one to make sure there was no detectable pulse. Raeve followed.

"Are all the soldiers dead?" I asked.

"Well, aside from the one you just gave a goose egg to, we have a few lined up." He answered.

"Good." I made my way over to them, and could also see the refugees were gathered towards the front of the compound. Much to my relief, a majority of them were in good spirits. A few of our men were tending to the wounded, and giving them food and water.

I walked over to see 3 soldiers on there knees with their hands binded behind their backs. I went over to the over confident one who looked me up and down. Just by looking at him, I knew the way he treated these poor people.

"Do you know where General Elias is?" I asked him.

"Fuck you bitch." Was his reply.

A shame really. I watched the look of the other two as I shot him in the head.

I walked over to the next one.

"Where is General Elias?" I asked again. The poor thing was crying, and ended up pissing himself. He couldn't have been more then 17, and probably was recruited by the mandate.

"He doesn't know." The last one said. "I'll tell you everything you need to know, just let me live. I'll give you what you want."

"And what about your friend?" I asked pointing to the boy soldier.

"I could care less." He replied.

I stood in front of him. I knew for a fact he didnt know jack shit, and was going to do anything to save his own skin. Then I heard a refugee say from the back.

He raped my daughter. I looked to the man behind me. He said it so calmly, but I could see he was holding her. She looked broken.

I felt my eyes starting to glow. I slowly turned to him and made sure he looked into them, before I shot him in the dick, and another to his chest.

I crouched down to the young man, who wore the uniform. The uniform that resembled the oppression that our people were forced into.

"What's your name?" I asked.

He was sobbing, and could barely get out his name. D.....David.

"David, look at me." He did. "Your going to be ok. I'm not going to shoot you. I promise. We just need to know where General Elias is. Do you know where he is?"

He just shook his head no. "Okay."

I stood up and shared a look to Kipsky's man who stood behind him. I walked away keeping my promise. Then he made the shot.

Raeve walked with me, as we gathered everyone and started towards Lingham.

"We lost a few, but it went well June. We did good." He said.

"I......I could have saved them." I could feel the knot in my throat as I tried to hold back the tears. "The little boy Raeve, he was just a little boy."

He stopped me and pulled me into him as he held me. "You can't save all of us June. You did your best. Without you, this outcome wouldn't have been achievable."

I held back the tears and held onto him. He pulled my head back and kissed my forehead.

"You ok?" He asked me.

I just sucked it up and nodded. We then continued walking, and looked at the large group of refugees that we just liberated.

"What are we going to do about this Mathers guy?" He asked.

I was silent for way too long before I answered.

"I have no fucking idea."
