Chapter Thirty Five

The night before the wedding, Eve had trouble sleeping. She kept thinking about the look on Elijah's face when she gave him Selena's message. It gave him some small piece of mind, but there was another feeling flooding the mindlink. Pain. Though Elijah would never betray such an emotion, it could be felt.

The alarm clock went off early that morning. Flint clicked the button and sat up on the edge of the bed. Eve simply flopped onto her back and exhaled loudly. Her mate chuckled at her displeasure.

"We can always just stay home." He shrugged.

"No. We can't. Ellie needs me." Eve sat up and rubbed her eyes. "I'm just tired."

Flint frowned at the statement but he didn't explain why. Mostly, because he couldn't. He hadn't told her what Noah said at the summit about her health, which was what worried him each time Eve wasn't feeling well.

A loud pop song rang out in the room, making Eve jump in surprise. She picked her phone up from the nightstand and answered it. From the song playing, she knew who was calling.

"Evie!" Ellie's panicked voice came through the phone loudly.

"Jeez, Ells. Don't scream." Eve replied. "What's going on?"

"Elder Gill can't officiate. I got a call from Jay this morning saying he wasn't feeling well enough to travel all the way to GreenTree. What does he even mean 'all the way'?! Acre is like a three hour drive. Less if he comes on his paws!" Ellie was rambling.

"It's okay. Take a breath." She waited. "Another one. In. And out."

"What am I going to do?" She whined sadly.

"Any Alpha or Elder can marry you. Just pick someone." Eve stated calmly.

Flint shot her a serious look, as if to say "Not me".

"Like Skylar, Jay, or Joshua. That's a solid list of back ups." She winked at her mate.

"Jay's first time officiating a wedding can't be mine. Maybe Skylar. Can you call him?" Ellie sounded like she was still upset.

"I will. He's going to agree, you know? He loves doing this stuff." Eve tried to encourage her.

"Okay. Everyone is heading this way soon. I think everything is ready but I'm not sure." She answered.

"I'll be there to help you go over everything soon. Let me get dressed and call Skylar. Then, I'll be there."

"Okay, Evie." Ellie breathed in relief. "What would I do without you?"

"I have no idea. Now, relax. Okay." She shook her head ruefully.

"Yeah. I'll try." She answered.

"Good. See you soon." Eve smiled.

"Hopefully very soon!" Ellie called out.

"Bye, bye." She hung up the phone.

"I'll call him. Just get ready." Flint kissed the top of her head before walking into the hall.

Eve showered, dressed quickly, and pulled her hair back. She wasted no time in gathering her dry cleaned dress and heading to the kitchen. Flint wore his acid washed jeans and a dark button up shirt. The smell of his aftershave brought a small smile to Eve's lips.

"You ready, Alpha?" She asked happily. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the Find ɴøᴠel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

"Lead the way, Luna." He shook his head at her formality.

Several minutes later, Eve found herself climbing out of the car at the pack house on the edge of GreenTree. It was a large, two story house with white shutters and a wrap around porch. The light brown coloring of the exterior made it seem like the building was blending into the nature around it.

Circling into the back yard, they found the venue. There was lace covering every small lamp post and pink table clothes on every surface. The weather was brisk but nice. Everything looked beautiful. That is, until Ellie ran up to Eve in a panic.

"Did you know that you can rent a dancefloor?" She tucked a stray hair around one of her curlers.

"Yeah?" Eve raised an eyebrow at her.

"Well, now they want to know where to put it and the place I picked is where the caterers set up their tables." Ellie rushed through her words.

"Okay. Remember what I said about the breathing?" She probed.

"I need it to survive?" She sighed.

"Yes. Now, go back inside. I'll fix it." Eve turned her around and walked her toward the back porch.

"But... It's like a lot." Ellie objected weakly.

"I can handle it. Go relax before you get all puffy." She waved her off.

"Thank you!" She hugged her tightly before scurrying inside the house.

Eve turned to find the dance floor guys only to run into Flint's chest. He had been watching her with a small smile.

"What?" She poked him in the stomach.

"Aren't you supposed to be taking it easy?" He asked with one raised eyebrow.

"I am. Talking to people is easy." Eve shrugged.

"Come on. I'll help you." Flint wrapped his arm around her shoulders.

It took nearly all morning but by the time noon came around, Eve was dressing for the big event. Ellie needed help doing everything from putting on her make up to finding her shoes. Luckily, her best friend didn't mind scurrying around to help her.

Eve zipped up the side of her purple dress and frowned at it. It was made of flowy fabric so it didn't cling to her. She was worried Ellie would find out about her pregnancy before she could announce it. She really didn't want to hurt Ellie's feelings, even by accident.

"Go check on Austin. He's nervous." She looked up from her reflection.

"Why? He's already stuck with you forever." Eve smiled.

"He hates being the center of attention. Go check on him. Please?" Ellie took her hand.

"Okay. I'll be right back." She sighed.

Eve went to find Austin. It would prove to be to be a long day, given that it began so early. Still, any day involving so many members of different packs was sure to be an arduous one.
