Chapter Fifty Five

Flint followed Noah out of the hotel. The Alpha seemed to be waiting for him. He stood by the in the middle of the empty road, staring into the forest where the warriors had been killed.

Flint approached him and came to stand beside him. He didn’t speak; he didn’t know how to begin. The pair stood in silence for several minutes, letting the calm of the very early morning wash over them.

Your Luna is in danger. We do see that, Flint. Noah’s wolf crossed the other Alpha’s mind.

“Will your pack still consider helping us? After tonight?” He probed stiffly.

Tonight does not fall on StarLight’s shoulders alone, as much as Daniel wants it to. Truthfully, the fault belongs to all of you.

Flint furrowed his brows at the wolf’s statement.

SilverCrest warned all of you when you migrated down the mountain and formed your little towns. You mingled with the humans and lost yourselves. You lost your traditions, values, and control over your packs. Without control, none of you will be secure.

Noah’s inner beast spoke in a gruff, steadfast tone. As if these were irrefutable facts and he was simply forced to recite them.

“You think that if we stayed in wolf form all the time like we used to, like your pack does, the rogue problem wouldn’t exist.” Flint ran his hand through his hair, pushing it back.

We know for sure the half-breed problem wouldn’t exist. The Alpha quipped.

“I can’t argue that. What you say may be true, but you and I had an agreement before the Call. Don’t let your elders blame my Eve for the actions of rogues.” He replied in a firm voice.

We told you already, the decision has been made. These events won’t effect it. SilverCrest would never allow a Luna to take the fall for her people’s faults. He growled a bit as he answered.

“Thank you.” Flint relaxed his shoulders.

I still don’t know the answer you’ll get. Save your gratitude. The beast answered.

“Then I’ll see you in two days.” Flint nodded.

Noah didn’t answer, he simply walked away. Flint rubbed his eyes and drew in a tired breath. He saw the Adams’ cars driving down the street. Eve had handled them and sent them home. He returned to his mate, who was staring at the ceiling above her from her position on the sofa.

“I have to make arrangements to go see the widow. I want to go tomorrow morning.” Eve thought aloud.

“We can do that.” Flint nodded.

“Can we go home?” She probed in a soft voice.

“Are you okay?” He sat beside her and laid his hand on her knee.

“I’m tired. Like deeply, deeply tired.” Eve answered quietly.

“Okay, baby.” He wrapped his arm around her shoulders. “I have to go to HQ but I can take you home first. I’ll set up a team of warriors to watch the place until I get there.”

Eve rested her head on his chest and sighed. As they stood, Joshua and Anna entered the room.

“Anna, you can take Joshua home but I need you at HQ afterwards.” Flint stated.

“Yes, Alpha.” She nodded.

“I don’t need a chauffer.” The elder protested.

“Of course not. Just do it.” Flint replied.

Joshua sighed, resigned.

“The elders are secure.” Graham announced as he stepped through the doorway.

“Good. I need you to help with coordinating the search.” The Alpha stated.

“I’ll got to HQ.” He unlocked his phone screen again as he exited.

Flint held Eve by the waist as he led her to the car. He called in the need for a team of four warriors to guard the house, on top of the two that worked the gate around the clock. They made their way home in silence. Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the ꜰindNʘvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

They day had been too long for them to rehash any of it. Instead, they both took solace in the silence. As they turned into the drive, a tall man approached the car.

“Status?” Flint rolled down his window.

“Secure, Alpha. As soon as the alert went out, the estate was cleared.” The warrior replied.

“Good. Open the gates.” He rolled the window back up.

A few moments later, the gate opened and the large home came into view. The warriors assigned were already stationed on the porch. Flint parked the SUV in front of the house and turned off the engine. He looked over to see his mate’s eyelids falling.

“Go inside, baby. Get some sleep. I’ll be back as soon as I can.” He ran his fingers over her cheek.

“I wish you could stay.” Eve sighed.

“Me too. Everything will be okay. There are guards everywhere tonight.” Flint reassured her.

“I know.” She nodded.

“I’ll be home before you wake up.” He rested his forehead against hers.

“I love you, Flint. Be safe.” Eve stated.

“I love you too, Eve.” He smiled.

He placed a warm kiss on her lips and she climbed out of the SUV. Eve greeted the warriors on the porch and waved at Flint before she stepped into the door. The Alpha watched her close the door behind her, before he drove toward headquarters.

Eve walked through the living room and up the stairs. She threw her dress into the hamper and took a quick shower. She felt the need to wash away the day. She put on a pair of comfortable sweatpants and one of Flint’s t-shirts. The thought of trying to pull one of her shirts over her stomach was extremely unappealing.

She walked down to the kitchen as she towel dried her hair. Eve grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and the feeling in her chest that she’d been trying to avoid washed over her again. She closed the fridge and walked curiously into the living room, what she saw there made her drop the towel in her hand.

“Hello, Evie.” Bastian smiled at her.
