When she arrived at her parents’ house driveway, the very first person she saw was Brody who was passing back and forth on the porch. The moment he heard her car, he stopped and walked towards her. Zia sighed because she knew she couldn’t avoid him forever. They lived in the same house and practically shared the same bed for the past three years.

She was hoping for anyone else to come out of the house but her heart sunk when she didn’t see Clay’s car or their parents’ car parked in the driveway.

“Zia, let me explain what happened last night, please,” Brody begged as she walked past him.

What was there to explain? His action last night was crystal clear. Although Zia never felt jealous when the girls were looking at him, she just didn’t expect he would turn out this way. All these times, she thought he was different. That was her mistake and fault. She’d gladly admit that.

“There’s nothing to explain,” her words registered out as a soft whisper.

“She was a vampire,” he said as soon as they entered the house. “I was there to kill her.”

“By shoving your dick into her vagina?” Zia glared at him. “Yeah, I’ve heard that excuse from Clay many times before. Do you know what’s the difference between you and my brother? At least, he’s not dating anyone when he does that.”

During her whole dating life, she only had been with three men. The first two cheated on her and she went to date Brody, thinking he was different from the first two. It seemed like he was another incarnation of her ex-boyfriends. Zia felt like she was an idiot for sticking up with him this long. She shouldn’t have ignored those signs long ago. She could have saved herself from this heartache much earlier but what did she do? She ignored those signs. There were plenty of signs shown to her indicating that Brody wasn’t who he seemed to be. But she fell for his sweet words and innocent smile. Her mind was poisoned on the moment he laid his eyes on her. She was glad that she never spoke words of love to him. Otherwise, this would have been a hard situation for her to get through.

“I trusted you,” she jabbed her finger on his chest. “I held onto your words. I held onto your promises. In the end, you broke me exactly how I expected.” Zia took a step back from him. “You called me a whore while you were the only man who had ever touched my body.”

“You’ve proven that point when you left with him.” He spat.

Was he being serious right now? Her anger was bubbling inside of her. Jaxon was the sweetest man she had ever met. She had given him several chances last night to take advantage of her situation but he didn’t. If Brody wanted to play along with this argument, then she’d put him in his place.

“At least he knows how to pleasure a woman thoroughly,” Zia said, almost smirking when she saw Brody’s jaw clenched.

She knew him too well. He thought just because they were in a relationship, it means he owned her. Well, he was wrong about that. She wasn’t some kind of trophy that would be cherished when he wanted to and tossed her away when he didn’t want her.

When she was with Jaxon, she only thought that sex was the only thing could make her felt satisfied. It turned out being in his arms was equal to having sex with him and they didn’t even have sex. Now, that thought made her body shuddered. What would she feel when they actually had sex? She didn’t want to put her expectations high but just looking at Jaxon’s behavior around her, she knew he was raised by a real queen who taught him to treat a woman right.

She left Brody in the living room and went upstairs. Zia tossed out all his belongings to the hallway outside her bedroom. She didn’t need him to stay in her room anymore. There was a spare room, two doors away. He could stay in the basement or on the street. She didn’t care where he stayed. She grabbed the photos on the wall and sent them on fire in the metal trash can. After she had done decluttering her bedroom, she slammed the door closed and plopped on her mattress before pulling her phone out.

Hey there, I missed you - Zia

She sent the text to the number Jaxon had given her. Zia felt like she was back in high school, texting her crush for the first time. She was all giddy and anxious to see what he would reply to her. She sprawled on the bed before she scanned her room. She didn’t know her room was this big before. Maybe because she had thrown out the messes a few minutes ago. It looked like she had a few extra spaces for her own stuff now.

Her phone vibrated on the bed, praying it was his reply but she frowned when it was a text from her mother. Zia opened the messaging application and read the text silently;

There were only two possibilities why Joshua wanted everyone to lay low for a while; an inevitable danger that could probably cause their lives jeopardized or the target didn’t show up as planned.

Then another text came in but this time it was from Clay; Dad found out the person who killed Samuel.

An attachment was included with the text. Zia downloaded the attachment and opened just to have her whole world crashed in front of her eyes. Her heart sunk into the deepest pit of her stomach and she felt she couldn’t breathe anymore. This was worst than finding her boyfriend cheated behind her back.

The reply she had been waiting for, came in.

I missed you too, my vixen. I’ll see you tomorrow at the bar? - Jaxon

The attachment was a photo of Jaxon.
