Knight School: A Mystic Brats Novel Vol. 1
Chapter Seventeen | Nara’s Journal | Witch Switched

I was sleeping peacefully as I felt sunlight touch my face. I jerked up instantly. I looked around my new, empty dorm room. I sighed. This wasn’t normal. I had slept in a giant tower without any curtains since the age of five. Sunlight had always shinned brightly there and never disturbed me before. Though, now I’m always on edge. My reflexes have reflexes. I paced the room, wishing that Julie and I were still roommates. But that ship had sailed. After the battle with my deranged father and the Order, the Council awarded Julie, Jason, Barry, and me our own custom-built rooms as a reward for our service. My room had everything that Julie could want — a punching bag, an advanced Holo-Desk for grading exams, and a personal armory of high-tech weapons.

I walked to my private bathroom, while desperately trying to put my black hair into a ponytail. Yes, I’m afraid you heard right, I am no longer a blonde. I’m also tall, muscular, and have blue eyes. For the past two weeks, I’ve been inside the body of Julie Brooks. She’s in mine as well. I couldn’t let her keep coming so close to dying because of me. I used the stolen fairy dust to perform the transfer. Ever since, I have been living Julie’s life and... it’s not really fun.

Every school day, I have to dress in unflattering business suits and monitor students during class. Then in my free time, I have to study for Julie’s final year of exams. This something all the magic in the world couldn’t have prepared me for. Oh, and I am no longer a sorceress. My magic stayed in my body. But, I will say there are some perks to being Julie Brooks...

Number One: Barry has stopped flirting (if you can call it that) with me, and really isn’t such a bad guy when he’s not constantly hitting on me. Number Two: I finally kissed Jason (please don’t tell Julie). And Number Three: I can finally be a true warrior like I’ve always dreamed of being!

I put on my Omega Armor. It’s the finished version of the prototype Jason tested during his battle with Kevin Tyson. Oooh! Just thinking of that name makes me furious! I can’t believe that my mother would send some psychopath to spy on Sir Louis! Nor that he would try to make me love him only to break my heart and how he destroyed the old academy. I’d be much better off with someone like Jason! But the problem with Jason is that when I first met him, I thought that I needed a man to complete my life and after fighting my father, rescuing Jason and Julie, I discovered that I don’t. Though, I know that true love can be a good part of my life... it’s something that doesn’t have to be in the equation for it to succeed. The only thing is that Jason is one hell of a great kisser.

I heard a soft knock at my door.

“Hey... um... Julie, are you decent?”

“Yes. Come in.”

Barry stood in the doorway sheepishly.

“You don’t have to knock every time,” I said.

“Yeah, right,” said Barry. “The last time I nearly walked in on you in our old school — you threatened to stab me with your sword! I’d rather be safe than six-feet under!”

“We’re probably going to end up that way eventually,” I replied. “But have it your way. Is it time for the mission?”

“Uh, yes,” said Barry, looking down at his feet. “I was wondering if you could help me see if Nara’s ready...”

“Why can’t you do it?” I asked.

“Well... because last week I walked in on her naked...”

“Really?” I asked, trying to keep myself from laughing. “What happened when she caught you?”

“She magically tossed me into a wall,” said Barry. “She nearly broke my ribs!”

“Okay,” I smiled. “I’ll go check on Nara.”

“Thanks,” Barry sighed in relief.

“No problem,” I said. “Besides — we wouldn’t want her to break your ribs today!”

I walked down the hallway and knocked on Julie’s door. A distressed version of my old body met me. Her blonde hair was a mess, and she was trying her best to put on her MysTech Suit.

“Get in here,” said Julie. “Now!”

Julie’s eyes glowed pink as I was sucked into her room. I nearly fell, it was so powerful. “Julie! Stop!”

The magical winds stopped as Julie’s eyes returned to normal.

“Nara — I’m so sorry!” said Julie. “I didn’t hurt you, did I?”

“No,” I said. “Your body is just as tough as it looks. Just keep your voice down, though.”

“Damn’t!” cursed Julie as she closed her door. “You don’t think anyone heard, do you?”

“I don’t think so,” I said. “But with how low you made my old voice go... everyone will probably think it was me saying: Nara.”

“Good,” said Julie, “because being a sorceress is driving me crazy! Every time I get stressed, I lose control of these powers!”

“You have to remember the four elements of which your new magic comes from,” I reminded her.

“Yes,” said Julie. “I remember them — Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire! And it does work when I’m trying to cast elemental spells, but how do I keep from losing control when I get stressed? Because the others aren’t working for that problem!”

“You have to figure out which element your spirit is most connected to,” I replied. “Only then you will not lose control.”

“Well, how do I do that?” asked Julie.

“You’re the only one who can answer that,” I said. “Though, I must ask, are you sure that you can handle today’s mission?”

“Missions don’t stress me out,” said Julie. “Being late stresses me out. I swear, your body is the hardest thing to wake up.”

“Slept through the alarm, huh?” I asked.

“Yes.”

“So, you’re not going to magically toss Barry into another wall?”

Julie half-smirked and half-grimaced.

“Did I forget to mention that little peeping-toms stress me out too?”

“We just need to be careful,” I said. “We’re lucky that everyone thinks that the Lunar Necklace cured your brain... my brain... our brain...? This is too confusing.”

“You’re telling me,” said Julie. “At least you get to wear the Omega Armor. I have to try to pour your body into this wetsuit. What did Barry name this thing again?”

“The MysTech Suit,” I giggled. It was so weird seeing my body having trouble getting dressed. Ever since I came to this world, I’ve considered myself a fashionista. Though, that’s something I had to give up after our switch.

“Well, it’s definitely miserable to put on,” said Julie. “I feel like if I breathe too much, the entire suit will rip. Why did Barry have to make it so tight?”

“He said it was because the only way the tech could enhance your magic was for it to be as close to your skin as possible,” I said.

“Really?” asked Julie with her eyebrow raised.

“It’s Barry, Julie, think about it,” I said.

“I hate being you,” sighed Julie.

“The feeling is mutual.”
