14. Small Hope

Stefan’s words make their way into my head... what I truly am and why I am powerless to resist him when he uses me. The reason I have no scent and why the Vega pack rejected me.

I curl up into a ball, and a sob wrecks through my body. This is all my fault, my child, Konstantin's first born, the both of us will die as soon as I give birth to Stefan’s monstrosity inside me. I can feel it clawing its way in my belly and sucking the energy right out of my soul.

Just like it's snake of a father.

Suddenly I jerk awake and feel a familiar pull in my centre - the mate bond pull. Wait, is Konstantin here right now?!

I run towards the window, ignoring the chain at my ankle as it holds me back, but the pull remains. When I look out of my barred window, I see a faint glowing light, and when it stops, the pull goes slack.

“No...” I whimper. “No! KONSTANTIN!" I cry out, willing him to hear me, but I know it is futile at this distance. He came for me, I know he did, but now he’s leaving again.

“I'm sorry... I'm sorry for leaving you...”

I sink to the floor as sadness overtakes me yet again. Hugging my knees to my chest, I allow the hot tears to flow over my cheeks while I am taken back to the single best evening of my life.

The night Konstantin claimed me.

It felt right, it felt perfect - but neither of us knew that we were truly fated to be the other's mate. We were stubborn and refused to give in to our emotions, afraid to admit how much we craved the other.

Now, look at us. I've willingly become a demon'’s sex pet even as the thought of his touch disgusts me.

I don't know what I'm going to do anymore; I've given up waiting for anyone to come for me, and why would they? I left the pack after telling them I met my mate, and he caught me having sex with Stefan in his office.

Who would want me knowing I'm ruined goods now?

As if he could pick up on my self-hatred, Stefan waltzes into my prison cell and as I look up, I see the disgust in his eyes.

“I'm sure you know who just tried to come for you,” he says with a wide grin on his face.

I sit up and glare at him, hating the fact that this man knows my every weakness and exploits it for his own disgusting needs. “No,” I answer and look away from him.

He tuts, walking over to me slowly with his hands in his pockets. “You know how much I hate lies, and yet that's all you can do. Luckily I had the great idea to spell the border of my territory to keep out anyone connected to you. I just didn't expect your fucking brother to show up so soon.”

My head snaps towards him, and then a frown covers my face. “My brother? Fenriz was here?” I ask incredulously. Why would my brother come for me? He hates me!

"Yes. The filthy Lycan prince made his appearance along with Konstantin. Oh, but don't get your hopes up on a rescue mission, my dear wife, my witches made the barrier strong enough to keep even him out.”

That little hope blooming in my chest gets immediately snuffed out by his words. He sees this on my face and lets out a chuckle. “Poor little Rogue wolf, nowhere to go and no one to love you.” He says, then gets down on his haunches in front of me.

“I'm the only one who can take care of you, Lilith. I hope you see that now,” he says while stroking my hair.

I don't know what to do anymore. These tears I've shed have been all for nothing as I am stuck in a world I willingly walked into.

Maybe I should just accept this as my normal and live out my last days as a slave to this man; it's all I'm good for now anyways.

I feel something shift inside of me at this thought, and I look down. Wait... did one of the babies just kick?!

Another shift, and suddenly a sense of calm settles in my heart and causes me to relax. I breathe out a sigh, then look up at the man who took everything from me; my warden and tormentor... the father to the devil child in my womb.

“I will never willingly submit to you, Stefan, you will have to use a lot of your stink to make me bend to your will because you know that's the only way you'll ever have me even if I am just like you,” I say, then spit into his face before giving him a sweet smile.

I expect his wrath; I welcome it actually because I know this is the only thing he knows how to do well. But Stefan only chuckles and shakes his head as he wipes the spit from his face.

“You'll live to regret that move, my little pet. Just wait for my repayment; it will come at any time, but continue to live in fear until then. As it is, I cannot touch you until my child is born and...” He trails off, then laughs.

“Ah, I think I forgot to mention that no one has been able to carry a purebred to its full term without dying horribly. Because you see, the child will literally eat you from the inside as he makes his way out. Yes, I think your Volkov bastard will make a nice little snack beforehand.”

I have no words to describe the horror that filled my heart when he said these words. My body stood frozen in place as I heard someone call for him outside and watched him walk out, cackling all the way, then slamming the door and locking it from the outside.

I don't think I slept that night knowing this child might come out to eat me alive at any second, although it was dawn when I realised that the person who called Stefan had an extremely familiar voice.

Konstantin

“Wait, so there was a barrier around his entire territory? Not even Fenriz could get through?” Kai asks after we make our way back to the estate.

I nod, shrugging on a pair of shorts Dimitri handed to me. “Yeah, the whole place is spelled to keep us out. I don't know how he knew about Fenriz being here as well, and the entire thing just pisses me off.”

I thought we were a step ahead, but Stefan had us right where he wanted us all this time. We were fools even to consider anything less.

Kai sighs and shakes his head. “Well, this puts a new spin on things. I think it's about time for me to pay the Norwegian witches a visit.” He says with a clenched jaw. I know how much he hated the blood witches from Norway, but they were the most powerful dark witches out there and entirely loyal for Kai.

My brother is a literal Wolf God, after all.

"Will you give Alpha Ryker a call as well? I need to ask his Beta a few questions.”

“I have already. Ruin is out on a bodyguard mission for The Governor and will only be back in four months.” Kai says.

I let out a sigh and nodded at my brother before turning around and walking out of the estate. I've been around too many people now, and I need to be alone so I can think. It's only when I walk out that I realise that the woods behind the estate was the last time I had Lily to myself.

The night we finally gave in; the night I claimed her.

I turn around and run back towards the woods, stripping the pair of shorts off and shifting before I enter the trees. I sniff the ground, walking through the familiar trees to where Lily and I were entangled in one another.

My ears fall flat against my head, and I lay on the spot where I claimed her, letting out a whine when I noticed a piece of her torn silk nightdress still lying there.

I miss her. I miss her so goddamn much, and now there's nothing I can do to get her back. Something unknown has my mate, something dark and dangerous, and somehow I don't know if I have the strength to save her.

Kai walks up to me and gets down on his haunches, placing a hand on my back. “Brother, I promise you we will get her back.” He says, the anger in his voice palpable.

I lift my head and look at him, shifting back and hanging my head in my hands.

“I failed her, Kai. I failed my mate, and now she’s locked up somewhere with God knows what and getting violated daily. I can't even cross his border to get her; what the fuck am I going to do?!" I exclaimed, clenching my fists so hard my knuckles turned white.

My brother sighs, and I hear his heart starting to race. “Even as I am sitting here, I can feel your pain and frustrations, Kon. Leave me to sort this out with the witches; I might have found a way to get through to Lily.”

I look up at him and frown. “What do you mean?”

Kai then grins at me and stands up, holding out his arm for me to take. When we both are on our feet, Kai slaps my back again and nods.

“I'm a God now, remember? I'm sure there's a way for me to speak to all wolves, regardless if they're my kin or in my pack.” He says as we make our way back to the mansion.

“But I thought you can't tap into your God skills yet, or whatever,”

Kai shrugs. “That's why I need to speak to the witches to see if it's possible. If I can do this, Kon, if I can speak to Lily, I might find out something that can help us rescue her. Like what the fuck Stefan Russo really is and what he has planned.”

“You think these witches can help with that?” I ask.

“They're the type of witches to tap into even the darkest of magic; if they can't help me with this, then they're no good to my pack or me.”

I look at my brother, feeling a little bit of hope inch into my heart. Do we really have a chance to save Lily? I don't want to get my hopes up, but for the first time in six months, I feel like there's a chance.

Perhaps we can still save my mate.
