chapter 2

3 years later

______________

The loud ringing of her alarm clock startled her awake. She groggily sat up and looked around the room with squinted eyes and a blurry vision. Stepping out of bed, she dawdled to the bathroomโ€”almost tripping over the bin near the door of her room.

After her parents' death, all changed, and it wasn't easy with the amnesia she experienced after the accidentโ€”it's a miracle she made it with how horrid the accident wasโ€”that night will always haunt her. People who claimed to know her would visit her, occasionally throwing things at her in hopes of them aiding her in regaining her memoryโ€”but all they ever did was make her head throb, especially in the delirious state she was in.

That made her realize the world isn't all rainbows and cupcakes. To really live, you have to endure the physical pain of this world. She later on decided to move out of her hometown and went to a place she'll be able to start afresh, with new faces and memories.

When she finally managed to clean up without hurting herself, she quickly grabbed some breakfast and rushed to work. She loves her job as a waitress but the only cons to it are the cruel people who always treat the employees there like trash and another is the distance she has to walk to get to the cafe. She's always wanted a car of her own but after the accident she dismissed the idea immediately, her fear for cars stays rooted till' today.

Before her shift began, she chanted the mantra that helped her get through the day without experiencing panic attacks. The weirdest thing is that she doesn't understand what the words mean but they meant something really important to her, and oddly enough they were the first thing that came to her mind the second she awoke and were the first words she uttered, "ego semper ibi utcumque es."

"Hey Lina, good to see you're not late today. This seriously calls for a celebration." Her friend, Isobella cheered with false enthusiasm.

Iso was one of the few people she enjoyed being around. Her personality, her authenticity, all of it. She's a bit annoying now, but the connection she felt toward her remains the same. "Thank you for the support Iso." She retorted, both laughed and exchanged hugs before getting to work.

He never liked watching her work, especially under so much pressure with what she went through a few years ago. He sees and hears every panic attack she has; every scream that leaves her lips, every pull at her hair and every erratic heartbeatโ€”he felt it all and he hated himself for not being able to do anything about it.

He still feels wistful about the accident and wishes to have tried to do something even if he went against the Moon goddess's order to not interfere; at least his mate wouldn't have suffered from so much trauma.

Taking a sip of his coffee, he kept his eyes focused on his mate. Everything she did was done wholeheartedly, the smile on her face warm like the coffee in his cup and the little caring gestures she did for the customers. She was like the sun on a cloudy day.

As she shimmied through the crowd, she felt like someone was watching her every move. She tried ignoring it but the feeling never went away, so she decided to take a risk and peeped in the direction she thought the feeling came from.

All blurred around her, her focus zeroed on the man she had seen in her dreams before, the same man who uttered the same words that always made her feel better.

He was real.

Her body moved toward him, and she did nothing to stop it. He knew she saw him, and he knew she was walking toward him with a purpose, to get answers from him and that is exactly what he would give her.

Hearts beat simultaneously, sparks danced around them and a once lost affinity came back stronger.

The Moon goddess has fulfilled her duty and brought two lost souls back together.

Now it's up to them.
