Summer Frost POV 

‘Congratulations, Mrs Hughes. You are one month gone‘ My joy knew no bounds when the doctor presented the pregnancy result papers to me. After two years of marriage and emotional pressure from my father–in–law, I finally had something to show for it. 

Two years ago, I said yes to Xander Hughes, the only man in whom my heart had found solace for years, and we officially got married. Xander was the sweetest and most supportive man any woman would want to have as a life partner, and I was the happiest woman on earth for having him all to myself. However, our two years of marriage had been filled with challenges especially from his parents as I couldn’t give him a child. We had been to the hospital severally but the result was always the same. Neither of us had a problem. 

“If you can’t produce an heir, then divorce that woman. I won’t have a choice but to do something about this if you keep being stubborn‘ I was broken when I had walked in on my father–in–law saying that to my husband. I was scared that he would end up divorcing me, but he stood by me and never left, and here I was today, going to tell him about the good news. 

I turned off the shower after I was done bathing, grabbed a white robe, and wore it. I stepped into our large bedroom but paused when I saw Xander seated on the bed with a paper in his hand. 

“Babe… You are here?” I smiled excitedly when I saw that he was holding the test result. I had intentionally dropped it under the duvet knowing he would find it. I wanted him to find it by himself, I wanted to surprise him. 

“What is this?” I could barely read the expression on his face when he lifted his face from the paper and looked at me. 

“What do you mean, babe? Of course, you 

e, you know what that is,” I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms on my chest. 

“Yes, I know what it is…” He paused and rose to his feet. The look on his face changed into a furious one, leaving me confused. 

“I will ask again, Summer… What is this?” His voice came out icily and filled with rage this time as he lifted the paper, his fingers tightened around it 

firmly. 

“What’s wrong with you? I’m pregnant, babe… I’m carrying our child… Your child. We are finally going to have a baby,” I explained to him, thinking that he was surprised and wanted me to tell him by myself. 

A dead silence played in the atmosphere, and with the look on his face, I could tell that he was trying to process what I said. 

“Honey…” I went close to him and held his hand as a smile formed on my lips. I placed his hand gently on my stomach and smiled at him. 

“Our baby is finally here, honey… We are going to be parents soon,” I couldn’t contain my joy as I rubbed his stiff hand on my stomach, but what he did next left me shocked. Xander yanked my hand off and stepped away from me. He had confusion on his face. 

“Who is the father of your child, Summer?” His voice quivered and his body trembled as his pair of brown eyes pierced into mine. They were filled with rage and demand. 

“Wh…what are you talking about?” My voice came out confusingly. 

“This is obviously not my child, Summer… Did you cheat on me? Who did you sleep with? Who the fuck is the father of this child?” His next words left me frozen on the spot. For seconds, I stood staring at him while trying to process what he just said. 

“Are you joking with me, Xander? What are you saying?” My voice quivered and my heart wavered nervously as I looked into his eyes. 

“Do I look like I’m joking, Summer? Who is the father of your…”

“Stop this, Xander! Just stop!” I snapped at him and shut my eyes, trying to make sense of what he said, but I couldn’t think of anything because nothing was adding up for me. 

He huffed and ran his fingers through his hair, his body trembling uncontrollably like he was shocked about something. 

“Xander…” I tried to touch him, but he stepped away from me and shook his head.

“Call me one more time and I will rip your tongue off,” Seeing the disgust in his eyes as he looked at me, the hatred in those eyes that used to stare at me lovingly, I asked myself what the problem was. Why Xander would accuse me of cheating? What did I do wrong by giving him a child? 

“I give you thirty seconds to tell me who the father of that bastard in your stomach is or I will kill you, Summer… Trust me, I will really kill you and go jail!” He grabbed my neck and slammed me against the wall.

Those eyes that used to look at me with desire, those hands that used to touch me tenderly, and the breath that used to give me this spark, were all inflicting pain on

“Who did you sleep with, Summer?” His fingers tightened around my neck and I could barely breathe.

I think this should be enough proof for you,” He rushed to the nightstand and brought out a few papers which he flung on my face. My body trembled as I slowly bent down and picked the papers one after the other. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I confirmed what Xander had said. It was stated in the test result that he was really sterile. 

“Why, Summer? Why did you do this to me? I loved you with everything in me… Why would you do something like this to me?” His voice came out weakly as he slumped on the bed and sank his fingers into his hair, his body trembling 

“…I didn’t do it, Xander… I promise you, I will never cheat on you. I will never do something like that, babe. Please believe me,” I knelt on the floor and crawled to him.
