Chapter Eighteen.

I turned to James and ask him a question, “Could you teach me the wards and runes needed to make the sword vanish,” I enquired, and he looked and smiled…, “Oh its easy, and he went to a pile of documents he was collating for yet another instruction manual, and pulled out a piece of A4 paper. Upon it lay over three hundred runes all neatly hand written and illustrated.

He passed it to me, and took out a soft tip pencil, and gently drew a box around the wards and runes required to bring about the vanishing glamour, and then he handed me a sister page with English translations. “I have the original in my office and upon my computer”, he said and then saw my expression…, “Oh don’t worry…, and that particular computer has no internet software installed.”

Again I thanked him…, and he enquired as to what I intended to use it for, so I told him what I had in mind, “I was going to try and cover my weapon so others could not see it and even myself if that would work. He blinked and grinned, “It would but…, well you would need to make it object specific, and inscribe the runes etc. upon the object, and that includes your body…, if you are wanting to vanish from sight”.

So that was how others could appear to vanish from sight, I thought to myself, and enquired with James if he could create an instruction manual on how to help the team glamour themselves and their weapons vehicles etc.

He laughed and opened his attaché case and drew out an A4 size book he had made. “This is ready for distribution,” he told me, and handed the book over, “You can keep that one as a gift from me…, I have five more photo copied books in my case…, Its due to be handed to Steve today…, but I wanted our team to have a few advance copies,” he said.

Inside were illustrations of various everyday objects we used including illustrations of a male and female, and written upon their bodies were runes, both different and therefore gender specific.

Quickly we photo copied enough so each member of the team had their own manual, and I had James hand them out, “I can tattoo the runes to your bodies said James, as they have to be clear and specific, or it could create something different if it was incorrectly inscribed,” he said, and then as a demonstration he spoke some words and vanished before our eyes.

When he reappeared, he explained even his clothing was inscribed right down to his underwear and socks, and then he pulled out a left foot training shoe.

“Please pay serious attention as your lives could depend upon this next demonstration,” we all looked wondering what he was about to show us. “I found a section of warning pages in one of the books, and it gives many examples, but this is a critical one,”

He placed the shoe on the table and ask if anyone could express the spoken rune to make that trainer vanish, It was the old desk Sargent who stepped forward he had joined our team after the captain was arrested and had become a very valuable member of our team. He spoke the words in good clear Elvish, and there was a flash and a burnt mass of ruined trainer smoking upon the table.

“Woo…, did I say it wrong or something,” he said…, and James grinned..., “It was the ‘or something’, and you spoke the words very clearly, but the mistake was in the inscription upon the trainer,” James said, and then proceeded to hand write the exact runes which were upon the trainer, and then the correct ruin next to it. When you looked at them it was almost impossible to see any difference until the old Sargent stepped forward again.

He pulled out a pen and encircled one single rune which had what looked like a letter ‘Q’ written on it, but the tail to the ‘Q’ was slightly to long and bent back upon itself to the left…, admitting not much, and it looked as if the writer had lost concentration and tried to rush.

He went quiet while we took in the seriousness of this information…, and we all breathed a sigh realising our feeble attempts at warding could have gone seriously wrong. “Now you might understand why it takes the Elves so long to create the weapons ready for specific function tasks,” he said.

There was a knock upon our door and in walked Steve, “I have a gift for you all,” and he took us outside to see what it was, and three huge military transporters were lined up outside of the car park and been unloaded. Each member of the team including the Mayor his family and loved ones, I say loved ones as he had a mistress. We all received bran spanking new 4x4 vehicles, curtesy of the crime Lord.

Each vehicle had been professionally warded and were stronger than bomb proofed vehicles, simply by the multitude of wards, it transpired the crime lord and his team had come under attack some two months earlier and their vehicles were destroyed, with them only escaping by using high Tec warded weapons of their own, and having to travers to the other side for quick escape.

Our old vehicles were taken and crushed for scrap, as it was learnt they had tracking spells upon them and could not be removed.

The spells could not affect the new vehicles as they had been counter warded to prevent detection. “You will all need to have individual wards with tattoos inscribed upon you…, to prevent the same happening to you, also your family and loved ones,” stated Steve.

Ah heck I thought my daughter is never going to allow me to live this one down…, as I had created such a fuss over having her tattoos, and now I was about to have to enforce a tattoo upon her.

Eventually the day passed with no excitement and I was able to drive my posh BMW 4x4 to my home and show my menagerie of a family, and the neighbours must have thought we won the lottery as DC Lewis parked his almost identical vehicle next to mine.
