Little Hidden Darknesses

An island surrounded by deadly fog, an ancient mansion riddled with secrets, and a family willing to do anything to keep said secrets safe ... Seventeen-year-old Eira arrives on Evermist Island in search of the Vinsants, estranged family she only learned about after her mum’s death. Except the Vinsants don’t recognise her mum’s name, nor does anyone else on the island, despite her mum having grown up there. What’s more, the islanders are afraid of Eira – the first stranger on the island in decades, and the only known person to emerge alive from the allegedly deadly fog that surrounds the town. Eira at first assumes she had found the wrong Vinsants, but after spotting a photo of her mum on their wall, her suspicions start to grow. She enlists Alejandro, a local Hispanic boy with vitiligo, to help her retrace her mum’s steps from before she left the island – a task that doesn’t come easy. Not only does she find a letter in which her mum confesses to a heinous deed, but she has to battle the enclosing fog and glowing figures that wander it, as well as the ever-present Vinsants, whose roots seem to go deeper than she ever thought possible.
