Chapter 1212: A Mouse

Chapter 1212: A Mouse

Chris Shelby nodded, "It seems my guess was correct. This is a series of interconnected traps, a labyrinth!"

This maze was a thousand times more complex than the one in Manson Jefferson's tomb.

Escaping this labyrinth was extremely difficult.

After several attempts, Chris Shelby and his team were still trapped.

Seeing everyone exhausted, Chris Shelby ordered a brief rest.

In such a complex situation, maintaining mental stability was crucial; otherwise, they would go insane.

Chris Shelby didn't want his royal guards to die here instead of on the battlefield.

He glanced at Tiger and the others, noticing that everyone except himself looked fatigued.

He said, "Everyone, eat something and drink some water to regain your strength."

Following his advice, the group began to eat and drink.

Suddenly, a series of squeaks echoed through the palace.

Tiger asked in surprise, "Boss, how can there be mice in here?"

A shadow darted out-it was indeed a mouse!

Chris Shelby's face lit up with joy. "Great! We're saved!" S~ᴇaʀᴄh the Findɴovel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Tiger was puzzled. "Boss, what do you mean?"

Chris Shelby explained, "Mice are very sensitive to their surroundings. If this mouse can survive here, it means it's familiar with this environment. If we follow its path, we can definitely get out!" Tiger understood immediately.

If this were just a single trap, Chris Shelby and his team could easily escape. But this was a series of interconnected traps; they had no idea how many there were.

If they remained trapped until their food and water ran out, they would be doomed.

But now, this mouse could lead them out.

Without wasting time, Chris Shelby and his team followed the mouse.

The mouse led them through one stone door after another, passing through dozens of traps.

Suddenly, they encountered several members of the Abernathy family.

Seeing Chris Shelby and his team, the Abernathy members tensed up.

Chris Shelby said calmly, "You don't need to worry. I won't kill you. I just want to know why you're here."

Relieved that Chris Shelby wouldn't harm them, the Abernathy members explained that they had entered a trap after passing through a stone door in the tomb. They had been split into different groups and trapped in various sections of the maze.

Nodding without wasting time, Chris Shelby continued following the mouse through another stone door. Realizing their best chance of escape was with Chris Shelby, the Abernathy members quickly followed him.

Chris Shelby's group passed through over a hundred traps with the mouse leading the way.

Along the way, Chris Shelby saw more Abernathy family members but didn't help them due to their ongoing rivalry. He refrained from killing them as they were still in a cooperative relationship for now and these were just ordinary disciples.

Some clever ones followed closely behind Chris Shelby's group without interference from him. His main goal was to escape this labyrinth.

Finally, after passing through the last stone door, they emerged from the maze into a deep passageway illuminated by luminous stones embedded in the ceiling.

Chris Shelby sighed with relief and smiled wryly. If not for that mouse, they might still be trapped inside. Given enough time, he could have escaped on his own but at the cost of losing all his royal guards except Tiger.

Time was crucial now for obtaining the Dragon Emblem fragments. Being trapped for days could allow the Abernathy family to seize them first.

Without hesitation, Chris Shelby led his team forward down the passageway where he encountered another barrier similar to the first stone door but even stronger.

Breaking it by force wouldn't be easy when suddenly he heard footsteps behind him-it was Peterson Abernathy and his group looking disheveled.

Peterson Abernathy was surprised to see Chris Shelby. "Chris Shelby? You got out so quickly?"

Chris Shelby was equally surprised. If he escaped thanks to a lucky encounter with a mouse, he doubted Peterson had similar luck. The Abernathy family must have some hidden tricks up their sleeve-no wonder they were top among hidden noble families with deep roots in former royalty.

Chris Shelby chuckled lightly. "Mr. Abernathy is impressive too; you've also escaped."

Peterson laughed without answering directly and told his group to rest as more dangers lay ahead.

Following suit, Chris Shelby also ordered his team to rest until everyone was ready to move again.

Peterson then asked Chris about breaking through the barrier ahead alone which wasn't easy according to him so Peterson suggested combining forces which Chris readily agreed upon since it was part of his plan anyway.

Together they attacked causing tremors throughout as they worked on breaking down this formidable barrier together.
