Love conquers all
2. Anaphylactic shock

As soon as we reached the clearing in the park, where gymnastics were taking place, the girls looked carefully at those present to find Nathan: “the new one”.

“It must be him!” Andrea said without pointing his finger.

“Where, show me where he is!” Aurora said curiously.

“Found him ... not bad really!” Abby exclaimed in a pleased voice.

I turned my head and my gaze met Nathan’s, he was right there in front of my trajectory, impossible not to notice him. I immediately looked away and directed it towards the instructor who began to give orders for the exercises to be done.

If I tell you I was hoping that physical education could take the negative thoughts out of my mind, I inform you that it was not successful! I was distracted, slow and the instructor put me on the bench to prevent me from really hurting myself. My gaze was directed towards the field, I might have seemed interested in what I was seeing, but in reality I was absent. I wanted really bad the day to end at that precise moment.

“What’s gotten into you today, Myra?” Andrea asked worriedly, approaching the bench and taking a seat next to me.

“You love exercise time!” Abby exclaimed, getting on her knees in front of me, placing her hands on my knees.

“There is something that is distracting you, I haven’t seen your wonderful smile once today.” Aurora said softly as she sat in the empty seat next to me on the bench.

They were my best friends and I couldn’t keep it a secret for long, not that that was my goal, but I wanted some time to process it all.

“Girls ... actually there is something I want to talk to you about, but I need some time.”

“Say no more, you have plenty of time to feel comfortable talking to us about whatever it is.” Aurora said and immediately after Abby added: “The important thing is that you know that we are always here to listen to you.” Andrea concluded by saying: “We have been friends for a long time now and there are no words to say to you how much I love you ... how much WE love you”; she looked at the others who nodded in confirmation of her words. It warmed my heart to hear them speak, was what I needed at that moment and I felt the need to give a sincere smile to my best friends. The best friends I could ever imagine having. They were satisfied that they had managed to get a smile from me because they got up from the bench inviting me to do the same and go to the locker room.

The school day wasn’t over yet.

I was left alone in the locker room, I was so distracted that I had wasted so much time doing things that usually took half the time spent. I looked at my watch and noticed that I was late, again for my biology class. I closed the locker and ran out of the locker room, I was in such a hurry that I tripped, I was alone in the corridor, or so it seemed to me, and I would have avoided the fool of falling in front of the whole school. I did not fall to the ground, on the contrary there was someone who had grabbed me. Two muscular arms and a very hot body had grabbed me in time. When I opened my eyes, which I had closed by instinct, and looked at the face of whoever had grabbed me, I was struck and sunk. My savior was the “Beautiful and Damned!”

“Thank you”; I muttered, arranging my hair with my hands and leaving without expecting anything in return, in fact he didn’t say or do anything, or if he did I didn’t notice.

I took a seat in the biology lab and everyone was paired up for an exercise and obviously I had the empty seat with my partner who entered immediately after realizing the situation: “I was paired with the“ Beautiful and Damned”!

The biology teacher talked about cellular mitosis and explained to us how our collaborative work had to be done. As we looked at the various phases through a microscope he seemed uninterested, listless. I thought that I would do the job entirely by myself, but soon discovered that it would not be so, because after fifteen minutes he had already done the part of his work. I was amazed by the precision, accuracy; what else was hiding the “Beautiful and the Damned”?

“Well let’s connect my part of the job with this and deliver.” As soon as I finished saying the last words, the bell rang and the teacher shouted over the rumor that had risen in the classroom and the noise of the guys getting up: “Finish the work as a couple and your lordship is asked to deliver in the next lesson, the day after tomorrow. ” Nathan got up and left without a word. I ran after him but he had already disappeared into the crowd of students that thronged the corridor. Near the locker I found my friends waiting for me to go to the canteen, it was time for lunch.

I was human, so vulnerable, they all took great care in touching me, because the supernatural had more strength; I couldn’t do some exercises because if I got hurt my healing time was quite long unlike them; they took care of my diet, because I had allergies. When I was fifteen I discovered my first food allergy. We were at the canteen, it was the last week of school, as a fruit there were my beloved peaches, after having peeled it I ate only one clove and I started not breathing well and immediately afterwards I went into anaphylactic shock. After being saved by a miracle, I discovered that I was allergic to peaches but not to hair. At least that was the case until that day when I discovered the opposite, two years later.

Abby had taken a peach for fruit and since I couldn’t eat it, I asked her if I could peel it so I could smell it and satiate my desire. I had peeled half of the peach when I started to feel itchy, skin rashes started to appear soon after, I soon started to feel short of breath. I knew what was going on, and I would never make it to my locker in time to get the life-saving pen they told me to always keep with me just in case, considering my severe allergy. It would have been enough to put adrenaline in circulation to save me from this situation. I didn’t have the life saver with me so I quickly lay down on the floor so as not to faint and hurt myself falling to the ground and I had the strength to say in a sigh: “Pen”; before completely losing consciousness.

I don’t know how I found myself opening my eyes wide and taking a deep breath, as if I had no air available, as if I had breathed air for the first time. I continued to breathe heavily until my breath stabilized. The moment I began to realize that I had not moved from where I was lying, I also realized who was close to me: the “Beautiful and Damned.”

“You should go to the hospital, you had an allergic reaction.”

“Thanks ...” I said bewildered and suddenly remembered to ask how to organize the completion of the biology work together, but in the meantime he got up and left. Was that the right time to ask him about it? Nope, but I couldn’t help.

“You made me lose at least a week of my life!” Abby said as she bent over so she could grab me and lift me off the floor.

“What a scare to see you lying there, it seemed to me the tragic scene of the tale of Snow White”. Aurora said, stroking my back up and down.

“Snow White or not, tragic was tragic and if it hadn’t been for the newcomer, I don’t know how it would have ended!” Andrea exclaimed, taking my hand, gently stroking the back and looking straight into my eyes to make sure I was okay.

“Exactly how did the ‘if it weren’t for the newcomer’ thing go?”

“It was he who asked us to go find your life-saving pen”; Aurora said.

“He was a thunderbolt! As he heard us scream your name he rushed by your side. He examined you and when we told him what you sighed before you passed out ...“, Andrea did not finish the sentence because Abby interrupted her: “Yes, in short he looked like a doctor and believe me when I tell you, you were almost blue and he saved you. ”

I felt indebted, as if the thank you I had said to him as soon as I was awake wasn’t enough. I would find something to do or say until the moment I saw him again. When I went to sit at the desk for the last two lessons of the school day, he was not present, he had deserted. Strange because the one who wasn’t supposed to be there was me, but after the news that I had received that morning nothing scares me, on the contrary I would have almost wished it, to what had been announced to me.

I went home and told my parents what had happened.

“Because you didn’t warn us or you didn’t go to the doctor right away.” My frightened mother screamed at me as my father tried to calm her by putting a hand on her shoulder. “She’s fine, if it weren’t so she would have gone to the doctor, right Myra?” Eventually that sentence became a question that my father turned to me with a pleading look, it was as if he were asking me to help him calm my mother. “Yes, that’s it, I’m fine mom!” She went away upset, she was not calm at all, but not caring I went to my room to throw myself on the bed, where I intended to stay until the next morning, but it was not so. I had heard someone talking to my father and after a while I heard a knock on my door.
