Jace.

“Are you avoiding me?” I ask the girl sitting on the kitchen counter in the middle of the night.

After the earlier incidents, everything around is tense.

It turns out that Ana’s mum is alive, and has been kept away all this time. The b*dy they burled couldn’t be identified because it was burnt and because it was found in the forest, they quickly assumed it was hers.

Leo’s mum didn’t survive the king’s rage though. She barely survived and the king only spared her for one reason. Tomorrow we will use her against his son

The king ordered Leo to be put in a maximum security cell, and tomorrow he will teach me his first lesson; interrogation.

My dad came back and he is in one of the guest rooms. Chase is here too. Apart from the king who didn’t leave his office, everyone else is asleep.

However, my mate hasn’t talked to me since the attack. It was my mistake.

I shouldn’t have left them vulnerable like that. I didn’t know what was to come and Dad needed me. When we heard the alarm, my first thought was them, and I had to seek the king’s permission to come back to the house.

My heart broke at the condition I found them in.

I could smell their fear a mile away, and I hated myself for causing it. It’s my job to ensure their safety.

Then my baby’s words just added salt to the wound.

I ignore her sniffles and continue walking to our room.

I lay on our cold bed and wish things were different. Everything happens. for a reason I believe, no matter how hard it might seem. We can’t make things go our way and that is what makes this, life. Life is full of shi t, but we have to learn to live through it without looking back.

I made mistakes, and through them, my eyes opened and made me notice and appreciate things that matter. I learned to be strong and to fight for those I care about. I learned to embrace courage, and goddess knows I love her and our son.

I understand her fear, and I know she is just frustrated. She will never do anything to hurt me. I have felt that way countless times. The fear of failing those you love. Being helpless.

Everything will change when she shifts, and I think her dad was right when he said we need to start vigorous training. This world is not for the faint-hearted. Ana was right, I will not be always around to protect them. What if I am caught up somewhere and Liam just has her?

I think that training should start tomorrow morning. I am positive something else is worrying her. It’s not just about Liam.

I shouldn’t have left her in the kitchen like that. Her emotions are hurting.

“When you shift, that will no longer be your worry. Tell me what is troubling you. I know you Ana, and I know it’s not about Liam feeling safe with me and not you” That is specifically male wolves’ job, to protect our mates and pups. We take pride in doing so, and everyone knows it.

Ana sighs and looks away. I don’t think I did something wrong. In fact, I have been on my best behavior since she came back, and I’m not tripping.

“Chase said his mate rejected him because of you. I am worried Jace. What if she succeeds in taking you away from us? It will break our son” My brows furrow in confusion at her words.

“For real?” I am forced to laugh because of all the things I assumed, this is just hilarious. Is this what has been stressing her up? I lay back on the bed. and face upwards.

“You think it’s funny, what if she blackmails you with something or joins our enemies just to reach you? She rejected the mate bond for you Jace” Ana faces me and I immediately quiet down at her seriousness.

“Baby, come here” I lift her up and place her b*dy on top of mine. I have never met a beautiful girl like her. My heart, soul, and b*dy belong to her. No matter what happens, Ana is the only one for m e .
