Chapter 57 

Gary’s voice had a chuckle to it, but in his eyes, there was a chill that could freeze hell over. 

“Athena, check out this chick in the Bradshaw family’s surveillance she’s a dead ringer for you from five years back when dad brought you home.”

She’d got three older brothers who were taken by their mom when their parents split. The eldest and second eldest brother didn’t grow up in Stardale City and hardly ever popped back, but the third brother got adopted by the childless mob boss Tomas Temple. 

Only Athena and her dad, Timothy, know the true identities and faces of her three brothers. Even Simon was clueless. Gary, the son of the Dempsey family, was seen as a disappointment, causing the Dempsey family to lose out on three sons. 

Athena’s mom was one hell of a woman, but Athena didn’t know much about her, having been raised by Timothy. 

Her dad was just a pretty face, a trophy with zero interest in the Dempsey family feuds or their business empire. 

And twenty years ago, her mom vanished into thin air, with Timothy searching for her every day, every year since. 

Five years ago, Athena was saved from Everglade City by people Timothy sent. Besides her second brother Cedric, the only other person who knew how she looked after being poisoned was her third brother Gary, who had seen her in the hospital. 

At the time, Gary thought he’d walked into the wrong room. 

He called Timothy, double–checked a couple of times before he could believe the swollen, bruised woman before him, with her voice destroyed, was Stardale City’s top socialite, his 

own sister Athena! 

Athena’s state back then hit Gary like a ton of bricks. He pushed Athena hard, demanding to know who had done this to her. Athena told him she’d get her revenge on her own, without dirtying Gary’s hands. 

It wasn’t until Athena sent Anna packing off to Mythoria that Gary finally figured out who had poisoned her so viciously.

On her way to the airport, as Gary was about to take Anna out for good, Athena stopped him. Anna alone couldn’t have come up with such a lethal poison; Athena was waiting for the real creator to show up. 

Now, with Gary sitting next to her, his lips curved in a smile, his voice was icier than ever,, “Athena, why on earth are you playing maid for the Bradshaw family? These surveillance 

clips clearly show you doing maid work, right? You’re the woman Newman has been turning

What’s his deal with Newman?” Before Athena could answer, Gary murmured with a smirk, “Thinking over these clips, Kevin does seem to bear some resemblance to Newman, doesn’t he?” 

Athena took a deep breath. The room was cozy, but the air felt as sharp as blades against the lining of her nose. She lifted her long lashes, her eyes a bleak gray, devoid of light, “Gary, what are you gonna answer Newman?” 

Gary, head bowed next to her, his eyes similar to Athena’s, sparkled with wild defiance. 

“How I deal with Newman depends on how much of the past you’re willing to share with me.” “If I come clean with you,” Athena replied, “knowing you, you’d grab a gun and go blazing 

after him.” 

Gary lifted his face, tongue clicking against his palate, “Ha! Looks like Newman’s the guy who had it in for you! Five years ago, the guy lost his wife and had a kid around the same time dad found you. It all adds up.” 

With an answer forming in his mind, Gary clenched his fists, his knuckles cracking. 

At the mention of “having a kid”, Athena froze. “You’re saying he had a kid right after my incident?” Athena recalled a cryptic text she’d received, whispering, “Dad said my first child died soon after birth. As far as I know, Newman has two kids, and both might be Yolanda’s.” 

Gary shrugged, visibly pissed, his 

lips tight, “The Bradshaw family do have two kids around five, for sure.” But he didn’t know who their mother was. 

Anything the Bradshaw family in Everglade City wanted to keep under wraps, stayed that way. So neither Gary nor Athena had much dirt on them. 

Just like when Cornelia announced Newman’s wedding – not just Everglade City, the whole country was in an uproar. Paparazzi camped out near the Bradshaw family mansion for ages and still couldn’t catch a glimpse of Newman’s wife or what she looked like. 

Piecing together Athena’s hints, Gary concluded, “So, Kevin’s Newman’s spawn? You’re working as a maid for the Bradshaw family, carrying his child, and you end up giving birth in the snow?!” 

Gary was itching for a fight, “Next time I see him, I swear I’ll shoot him myself!” 

The auction had already begun. Zoey’s bodyguard was still in the resting area, getting emergency treatment for his swollen eye. 

“Holy cow! I’m in so much pain! Are my eyes gonna pop out of my head or what?” Zoey was freaking out so bad that the bodyguards couldn’t even give him first aid. 

“Mr. Bradshaw, should we take you to the hospital?” 

Chapter 37 

“Useless twits! You can’t even handle this little injury!” Zoey lashed out with a kick at the bodyguard’s leg, taking out all his frustration on them. 

“Zoey.” Anna came over again. She said, “I’m a doctor; let me check out your eyes. I’ve got some painkillers on me. Pop one and your eyes should stop hurting.” 

Zoey knew Anna had medical skills; she was the star mentee of the famous traditional medicine guru, Jerry. 

“What meds? Hand ‘em over; let’s give ‘em a whirl!” 

After Zoey took the painkiller, Anna stood in front of him, patching up his eye. She wore a hint of a stimulating scent that could get anyone hooked the more they had it. 

Seeing the ugly marks on Anna’s body, Zoey felt grossed out, but when she got close, he started feeling some kind of way. 

“Newman,” Zoey’s bodyguard snapped to attention, respectfully murmuring the name. 

At the sound of that name, all the racy thoughts in Zoey’s head vanished in a puff of smoke. 

Newman walked in the resting area with his entourage, and Zoey hurried to his feet to greet him. 

The man in the black suit exuded an intimidating and chilling aura. 

Under his intense presence, Zoey and Anna’s legs were shaking uncontrollably. Newman wasn’t there to see how the injured Zoey was doing. 

“I heard you offered Athena in exchange for that female model from Gary’s clutches?” Newman’s voice was detached and icy, betraying no emotion. 

The mention of this ticked Zoey off, “Newman, that Gary is totally dissing our Bradshaw family, always snatching away the women I’m into!” 

Before Zoey could finish his rant, Newman grabbed a stool nearby and hurled it!
