Chapter 7

Chapter 7

Caroline learned a lot of shocking things about Leon from Susan. She felt indignant while blaming herself for not taking good care of Leon.

Leon had always suffered from anorexia and would only cat meals his father made. If the food got prepared by anyone else, he would refuse to spare it a glance, much less eat it.

His father, Quintin, had been unconscious for a month. Thus, he chose to starve and would only eat some bread when at maximum starvation.

His mischief nature as a child explained part of the injuries on his body, while the rest was because he was often a victim of bullying from the two grandsons of his granduncle.

Caroline finally understood that the chubby kids were Quintin’s cousin’s children, the same two who had always picked on poor Leon Kent and Bryan Ziegler.

Since Leon could not speak and had never snitched on the two, they became bolder in messing with him.

The more Caroline knew about Leon, the more it stung her heart. It pained her so much that she could not breathe.

Caroline cleaned Leon’s body, and the latter’s nose had already stopped bleeding. After wiping away the water droplets on his body, she scrutinized him from head to toe.

His appearance was identical to Mayson and Cayson. Yet, he exuded a sense of maturity and spirit that a child should not have at his age.

“Leo…” Caroline murmured.

She hugged the small boy tightly again after helping him change his clothes. Blood was flowing in his veins, and his heart was strong. She could not help but embrace him, feeling his healthy heartbeat.

She previously overcame difficulties during pregnancy and gave birth to him, her very first child.

Everything inside her, like her bones and blood, felt an inexplicably close connection with the child.

Now that she had found her son, it felt as though her life was complete.

She swore in her heart, “Leo, I won’t leave you and won’t let anyone bully you again. I promise to take good care of you to make up for the lost time.”

They only shared an intimate moment for a while when a housekeeper anxiously ran over from outside and yelled, “Bad news! Ms. Amelia and Ms. Romilly came. They even brought some people with them.”

“What’s going on?” Susan did not know the situation, so she hurriedly followed the housekeeper to have a look.

Outside Tanglevine Residence, Amelia Miller, the madam of the second branch in the family, and Romilly Blake, her daughter-in-law, came with two children aggressively to get even with Caroline.

“Get your ass out here, Caroline!” Amelia snarled.

“I know what you tried to do to my children. Get out right now!” Romilly added.

Susan quickly ran upstairs to Caroline and asked, “Ms. Lewis, did you try to hit the two children from Ms. Amelia’s family?”

“Are you referring to the two chubby kids hanging around here earlier? Well, I did. What’s wrong?”

“Ms. Amelia and Ms. Romilly are at our doorstep right now, and they’re asking you to get out there now. What should we do?” Susan and the other housekeepers were very nervous.

Caroline could tell they were scared of people from Amelia’s family. Nevertheless, she said, “I’ll go check it out then.”

She asked Leon to stay in the room before heading downstairs alone, exiting the mansion.

“Quit yelling already. Your noise made me think some random street dogs were barking outside. How unpleasant!” Caroline snapped, standing at the mansion’s entrance and blocking her ears with fingers.

When Amelia and Romilly saw a woman in a wedding dress approaching, they frowned and asked, “Who the hell are you? Why are you wearing that? Where’s Yvonne Lewis?”

“Here I am!”

“How’s that possible? Mom, she isn’t Yvonne. I know Yvonne, and that’s not her.” Romilly exposed Caroline’s identity publicly.

Everyone around revealed flabbergasted looks as they stared at Caroline. It turned out that the Lewis residence had sent an impostor to bring good luck.

“You’re not Yvonne, which means that you’re an impostor! How dare you bully my grandchildren?” Amelia growled, utterly

livid.

Romilly continued adding fuel to the fire. “She even called us barking street dogs. The nerve of her! How dare shel

Those two were not pushovers, so they shot menacing glares at Caroline.

“When did I bully your grandchildren?” Caroline questioned without any hint of fear, her arms crossing against her chest.

Amelia brought out her two chubby grandchildren and asked them to identify the person on the spot. “Kent, Bryan, tell me. Who was the one trying to hit you? Be honest. I will uphold justice for you.”

“It was her!” answered the two chubby kids as they furiously pointed at Caroline.

Amelia angrily snapped, “Did you hear that? Have a good look at my babies, Kent’s and Bryan’s swollen faces.”

“How can you be so sure that their swollen faces aren’t because they’re chubby, to begin with?” Caroline asked emotionlessly.

Romilly was furious and felt heartbroken at her children’s beat-up state. “What a vicious woman! Just because you

don’t have kids doesn’t mean that you can do as you please with someone else’s children! Yet, you don’t even have the guts to admit your vicious acts!”

Caroline snorted before retorting. “You accuse me of being responsible for their swollen faces. Why didn’t you ask me the reason why I did it?”

The two women speechlessly shot daggers at Caroline. Still, the latter resumed, “Your grandchildren were picking on Leon. I was only helping someone in trouble. I taught them a lesson so that they know right from wrong. How can you fault me for that?”

“Hmph! I’ve never seen another woman who shamelessly twists the truth like you. An adult teaching one kid a lesson? Why would you give such a lame excuse? You claimed that our children bullied Leon, but that’s impossible. Kent and Bryan’s relationship with Leo is the best, not to mention they’re blood-related brothers. Stop making things up,” Romilly taunted as she shielded her children.

“Blood-related brothers? Let me ask you both. Have you ever tried to hit Leon or bully him by cramming leaves into his mouth? Have you ever been guilty of saying that he’s an illegitimate child and a mute?” Caroline looked at the

as she threw out her questions.

The two children were typical tyrants at home. Now that their mother and grandmother supported them, they became even

bolder.

Thus, they lied at once.

“No. We didn’t bully Leo.”

“Mommy, Grandma, we were having fun with our younger brother. It was this lady that suddenly hit us!”

Anger stirred within Amelia when she heard the words from her grandchildren. “Did you hear that, you impostor? My grandchildren are usually obedient. You must be the one having bad intentions and trying to bend the truth.”

“Me trying to bend the truth? Me having bad intentions? You often bully Leo because he’s still young and can’t talk. Let me tell you something. Everything will be different starting from today. Now that I’m here, I’ll never let you guys bully Leo, not

even one bit.”

When Caroline said such words, Leon had already stood behind her back. He felt strange deep down as he looked at her back and listened to her words.

Finally, he understood the feeling of being protected by a mother.

“Who do you think you are? You’re merely an impostor sent here to bring good fortune. How dare you think you’re anyone important?” Rommily snapped. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the Find ɴøᴠel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

She dashed over in an attempt to hit Caroline, but the latter grabbed her by the hair and slapped her viciously multiple times.

Slap! Slap!

Caroline then kicked Romilly, causing the latter to face plant into the ground.

“Urghh…” Romilly moaned as she fell.

Such an act astounded everyone around. Even Susan and the other housekeepers held their chins in terror.

They felt Caroline had gotten in big trouble this time, and it would be over for her.

Caroline had offended the second branch of the family. Hence, the housekeepers could not picture the consequences if the second branch reported this incident to the matriarch of the Ziegler family, Mrs. Ziegler.

Amelia asked her s ts to help Romilly up and jeered angrily, “You b ch! How dare you hit my daughter-in-law? Everyone, go and get that woman! I want you guys to punish her severely!”
