Chapter 38

It was day three, having to be back in EverGreen and already wanted to leave the town behind. He was already mad at Chloe, but that would not last. Chloe was giving him silent treatment. The rest of yesterday, no one spoke to either. His father tried to make small talk, too, but that did not work.

So, that morning, it was a quiet occasion for everyone. The assembly hall was so eerily silent, and it was echoing off the walls. The elders came filing into the room. Jacob was the only one there. Isdorah was already sentenced for her crimes. Lucius looked over at Darius, who was busy shuffling the papers on the table top. He was ignorning the whispers coming from the other elders. Chloe nugged his arm.

"What?" Lucius asked Chloe.

"What’s going on?" Chloe wandered.

"They are debating what to ask Jacob, it seems," Lucius whispered to Chloe.

Both Lucius and Chloe went silent when someone cleared their throat. Darius cleared his throat and grabbed everyone's attention. The room went silent as he did that.

"We can begin now with the trial," Darius instructed, "So, Jacob, we are going to begin with how you met Joe."

"I met him after the fallout at the Devereux house, and I was close to death by shot by Thomas Klein. Joe came out of the woods and found me lying on the ground. He picked me up like I was ragdoll and took to me to an abandoned house. Later, he healed me by feeding me his blood. We became allies soon after. After a few months went by,Joe decided to turn me. He wanted me close and kept me a secret from everyone else. Then he started to get the obsession with his half-witch girlfriend and started stalking her again. Joe learned that his other friend, Lucius, was seeing his ex-girlfriend. This made him angry, so he killed her dog as revenge. Then, he started plotting his kidnapping strategy. He told me to spy on Chloe and kidnapp her when she was completely alone. Finally, everything happened up until now." Jacob told everyone.

"You know that you will be charged for Joe's crimes as well your own, too? Since Joe is deceased and can't speak for himself. I hereby announce you guilty of everything you have done to Miss Swartz. This trial is over. Everyone you are dismissed." Darius told the assembly.

The guards came in soon after to take Jacob away. The elders had left the room at that point. Lucius saw his father had left with the elders, probably discussing what was happening with his ex-wife. He watched Chloe, who looked relieved of this experience. Now, it was time to go back to Montana.

Chloe had already stood and left the room with Margo. Thomas had waited for Lucius outside the assembly hall. He grabbed Lucius’s arm to pull him aside.

"What do you think will happen next?" Thomas asks.

"Honestly, I have no idea what is going to happen besides going back to our normal lives. The twins will be here in four months. They're both boys, by the way. Chloe wanted to keep that information a secret. So, don't say anything," Lucius told Thomas.

"Already, so, twin boys, do you have names for them?" Thomas questions

"Yes, but Chloe will decide that when we cross that bridge. She wants the names to be meaningful. Also, I do not want any weird name suggestions either. I told her I thought the names Xzavier and Cole seemed appropriate. She told me that she would think about it." Lucius mimicked Chloe tone of voice.

Thomas laughed and said, "Margo wants to our daughter, Jewel, but kept thinking, is this actually going to happen. Ava thought she was crazy. Pregnant women are crazy."

"Could not agree more," Lucius chimed in as they walked towards the elevator.

When they both got off the elevator, both women stared at them. Thomas did not say anything to Lucius either and went over to join Margo. Then he walked away from Chloe and Lucius.

"It took you long enough," Chloe mentions.

"The elevator in the hall was packed. So, I spent ten minutes talking to Thomas. So, excuse me for wanting to talk to my friend," Lucius said sarcastically. He walked away from Chloe after saying that.

Chloe to waddle her way to catch up to Lucius. She grabbed his arm to keep from falling. Also, she was not in the mood to deal with him.

"Why are you such as asshole today?" Chloe demanded, stopping outside the car.

"I do not know what you are talking about?" Lucius fended innocence.

"You do know. You walked away from me yesterday like an ass. Your father had to apologize to me for your childdish behavior." Chloe angerily said and jerked the car door open. She shoved herself inside and slammed it shut.

Miles did not say anything as what he might witness walking up. He got into the driver's side.

Lucius opened the passenger side and shoved himself inside and turned towards Chloe. He later says, "You say my behavior is childdish. The way you just acted is childdish. You get mad at me for talking to Thomas. So, you make it seem to me that I can't hang out with anyone. I don't pull this crap with you. Don't do this with me."

"Is that what you think? Yesterday, I asked you how you knew my ex-boyfriend and what that was like. You stormed off and gave me the silent treatment. Then you did not speak to me for the rest of the day. How is that fair?" Chloe argued.

Maybe I was a jerk to you yesterday. I just wanted to see my mother get arrested. Now, that is imbedded into my brain. I won't see her again. I'm sorry for being moody asshole. You were the same way due to the pregnancy hormones. You do not get to talk." Lucius comments.

"I never meant for this to turn into a confrontation. I just wanted to get my point across with how you acted yesterday. " Chloe told Lucius.

"You made it one," Lucius mentions and goes silent for the rest of the ride.

Miles looked at Lucius with amusement on his face. He was trying not to laugh at the conversation.

"Have anything to say, father?" Lucius questioned.

"No," Miles laughs.

They got back to the house and relaxed for the remainder of the day. Knowing come morning, they would need to pack and leave for the airport. Lucius was glad the day was over and can finally move on with his life. He did not worry about Chloe's life being in danger that he went to bed thinking of that.
