Mia's Path
Honey, what's for dinner?

MIA

“Crap!” Raina muttered under her breath.

I wasn’t convinced yet that she wouldn’t spill it all to Drake and Kyle. She had been trying to convince me that last hour that I should tell them. They will understand, she said, they will help, she also said. I knew better, I knew they wouldn’t and the chances of me being able to escape alive would be next to zero if that happened.

“Raina” I tried to reason with her. “You can’t t-” But she cut me off. I think I might have seen a warning in her eyes, but the next second, she was shrugging and talking a bit louder.

“It’s done. Kyle already knows about it, it’s too late now.”

That made me panic. How? When had she had the time to talk to them. Was she a part of the pack and could mind link with them? I was so screwed now. I could feel the color living my face and my panic taking place. My hands started shaking and I could feel a panic attack coming my way and it was coming hard.

“Yeah, but don’t worry, Mia, I’m in on it.” Kyle voice called out while he entered the room.

“I’m sorry, what?” That made no sense, unless he meant he was on my side somehow and wouldn’t tell everyone else about be not being human.

“I won’t tell the alpha about the guards, don’t worry.” He smiled and winked at me. I glanced at Raina, and she nodded subtly, so I just went with it.

“Thanks, Kyle! I don’t need him on my ass about it.” I said and looked at Raina for reassurance, which she gave me with a wide grin. Kyle on the other hand didn’t seem to like my choice of words so much. He tried to hide it, but something I said made him scoff a little.

“So, shall we go already?” He changed the subject.

“Yes, please! I’m starving!” Raina chimed in and walked of the room. I swallowed and followed her, walking beside Kyle. He smiled at me again and offered me his arm. He could be goofy and a bit touchy sometimes, but he was always a gentleman and I liked that. So, I took his arm and resumed walking out, just to be met with two guards snoring. I’m sure they were sleeping, but they were still standing. Talk about weird.

Ah!

Raina must have done that earlier and when she noticed Kyle getting closer, she must have said what she said so he would think we were talking about the guards - at least I hoped so. Oh, she was good. I really liked having her on my side. I giggled a little bit upon the loud snore that escaped one of the guards as to assuring us that they weren’t going to wake up anytime soon.

“So, I heard you had an interesting morning.” Kyle said nonchalantly.

My eyes immediately connected to Raina’s eyes, at the same time she snorted. I silently begged her to not say anything. I was already embarrassed enough that she was there this morning and saw all that fiasco with Drake. I didn’t need anybody else knowing about it. I could feel my face already starting to heat up, just from remembering everything.

“Off course she did! She met me.” Raina chuckled and I couldn’t be gladder, she was being a true friend.

“I guess that statement in itself could explain why she was bleeding and soaking wet, huh.” Kyle snorted.

“Hey! I had nothing to do with that!” Raina countered a little too fast and Kyle narrowed his eyes a little bit. He was trying to understand what had happened.

“I was by the lake and slipped. Ended up in the water and my arm hit a bottom rock. Raina actually was nice enough and healed my arm for me.” I explain as nonchalantly as I possibly could. Hopefully he didn’t get the anxiety trembling in my voice.

“Wow! You’re clumsier than Raina.” Kyle chuckled. He looked amused with the situation. Little did he know that I was not the clumsier one, that was all on his dear brother, the jerk alpha. Although in this situation I was happy that he didn’t really know the whole story. For some reason the idea of people knowing that Drake and I had a little moment bothered me a lot. It wasn’t anybody else business, you know.

After that, Raina and Kyle started a playful banter till we reached the cafeteria in the pack house. I was a bit stunned; I didn’t expect that many people over there. I assumed since they had a lot of houses for the families that everyone ate at their own. The packhouse was big, but I doubted that all that many people could really be living in there.

It made me smile a little, even though they were a big pack, they still maintain a close connection. It was nice. Noticing my smile, Kyle grinned wide and took me to buffet table to get some food. It all smelled so damn good; I didn’t know what to get. There was a salad section, with all kinds of greens. But the true winner was the fact that there were several different kinds of meat. Pork, beef, chicken, fish and even lamb, done in different ways.

“I recommend the lamb stew; Jane is a wonderful cook.” Kyle told me.

“Yeah, if you like lamb, you should get it now, once the warriors get here, forget about it.” a chirpy voice behind me said.

I looked over my shoulder and saw Dr. Pretty smiling at me. Over the time I spent in the hospital I got to know a little bit more about her and as much as I didn’t want to admit, she was nice. And she was a very good doctor, even with the needles. So, I couldn’t help the smile that spread on my lips upon seeing her excitement over the food choices.

She smiled back at me while I got some of the stew, potatoes and a few vegetables. Right after I gave her some space Dr. Pretty, I mean, Melinda got herself a full plate. She could have a small frame, but damn she could eat. I guess that was something every werewolf had in common. They ate a lot, like a lot a lot. It was no surprise that most packs had their own crops and all, just buying that much food would be impossible.

We all set at a table large enough for about eight people. It made me a little anxious, to be honest. I saw how many curious glances were directed at me the moment I entered the room, even heard some whispers. And seating in a table that could afford more people to join in was a bad idea. Someone could actually join us! I had Kyle by my right side and Mel was on his other side while Raina was seating in front of Kyle. There were too many open spaces.

Raina looked at me with a curious stare, like my discomfort was amusing to her somehow. Before I could change my seat and be in front of the nice doctor, that place was occupied by some girl I had never seen before. She looked a few years younger than me and had a shy smile on her face. She caught me staring and nodded at me. Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the FɪndNøvel.ɴᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

At that moment the cafeteria doors opened and in came a lot of hungry looking people. By the way they were playfully hitting each other I gathered that they must be the warriors. And, of course, with them came Drake. Our eyes met for a brief moment, before I looked away. Awkward. There was no other word for how I felt. Thank the Gods the nice-looking girl was introducing herself.

“Hi, I’m Lilly and you must be Mia, right?” she said softly. I could see she was trying her best to be welcoming. It was nice of her to do that.

“Hi, yes. I’m Mia. It’s nice to meet you, Lily.” I responded smiling at her. She smiled back and redirected her attention to the others and greeted them. Apparently, she was in their circle of friends, they all called her Lil. That was enough to start an easy conversation with everybody and I almost felt at home. Almost. There is, until more people joined the table, and my discomfort came back.

A big looking guy set by my side and upon my wide stare he only smiled at me and nodded his head. Another warrior was about to sit in front of me but hesitated and chose the vacate seat next to that spot, leaving me a bit curious. But that curiosity died a second later, when the seat was occupied by none other then the jerk alpha himself. I stared daggers at him and he only hold my deadly gaze. What the fu–
