Inside, the building had already started collapsing in on itself.

Which means I have to work fast.

As I began to search the store, calling out loud to find out if anybody was in here, I got a faint response from the center of the store, where the fire was raging.

I made my way towards the growing sound of the person calling out for help, swerving around the spreading fire and the intense heat.

When I got to the very center, I spotted a woman (in her 20′s) lying on the charcoal floor, with her left leg trapped under a large heavy broken shelf.

“Help, please....“.

She desperately rasped, before coughing hard for a few seconds.

I knelt down to my knees next to the woman.

“Would you be able to walk if I freed your trapped leg?”

I asked, as I examined her for any other injuries.

“N-n-no. From the knee down on my left leg is in extreme pain”.

My eyes followed down her left leg, noticing that her leg was bent almost backwards, in a way that it should never bend. Then again, I couldn’t see all of it because it was buried underneath the broken shelf.

It must be broken; I’ll have to carry her.

I looked back at the woman, who had drops of sweat and tears dripping down her small face.

“Don’t panic, I’m going to get you out of here”

I said confidently.

“How? You’re just a girl in a Halloween costume”.

Just wait and see.

The woman stared at me as I shapeshifted into a large ten foot tall grizzly bear and lifted up the broken shelf with my huge paws, lifting it high enough to slip her leg out from under it.

Once her leg was a good distance away from it, I set the shelf back down, being careful not to pinch my front and hind paws between the floor and the edge of the shelf.

Then I turned to face the woman, shifting back into my human form as she still stared at me with shock, astonished at what kind of power I was capable of.

Now that her leg was free, I examined it again and my guess was right, her foot was also bent backwards, indicating that it’s very broken.

My next job is to get her and I out alive.

I bent down to scoop up the woman, until she pointed at something behind me and hollered,

“LOOK OUT, BEHIND YOU!!!“.

I looked over my left shoulder and sure enough, a large heavy stock shelf (that’s not broken) was tumbling down towards me and the lady, with shelves full of glass items (mostly tea pots and cups).

I fully turned around, put up my hands and arms to brace the impact when my diamond bracelet started to glow white again. This time, it did something I never expected it to do.

As the falling shelf was about to crush me and the woman, a blue forcefield formed all around us, in a protective ball.

I watched in awe as the shelf and the glass deflected off of it and bounced the other direction.

After hearing the deafening sound of the shelf hitting the floor and glass shattering, I lowered my arms and the forcefield vanished, leaving us unprotected from the intense heat of the blazing fire.

Without wasting time, I scooped up the woman into my arms and bridal carried her towards the Walmart exit, trying to avoid the spreading fire and chunks of falling debris from the ceiling.

Once outside, I gave the woman over to the paramedics, who strapped her down on a stretcher and raced her to the nearest hospital.

At the same time, many fire trucks arrived and began to hose down the burning building, even though at this point most of it was burnt and was collapsing in on itself.

While the firemen were busy spraying away, I shapeshifted into a mouse before I scurried behind a red caravan, so I can change back.

Thanks to my diamond bracelet (and I totally think that it can read my mind), my hero outfit turned back into my casual clothes and I started to head back to No Frills, which was only about 15 meters away.

When I stepped up onto the sidewalk, I glanced around for James or either of his friends, but they were nowhere to be found.

I was about to walk into the store when a car horn honked loudly behind me, making me jump out of my skin.

I spun around to see who it was and sure enough, it was Ms Melo’s red SUV with the boys in the back.

With a smile, I slid into the middle seat next to James.

“Where were you, young lady??” demanded Ms Melo, briefly giving me a stern look in the rearview mirror, before she pulled out onto the road.

“I-I-I just went over to the Walmart beside No Frills”

I explained, trying to put as much truth as I can into my answer.

“What the hell were you over there?” piped up James.

“Because I-I needed some photos and footage for my group at my school. Me and my friends are putting together a newsletter for the school and I needed sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ (ꜰind)ɴʘvel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“You’re quite the risk taker. Do you always put yourself in harm’s way just to get what you need?”

“Well, sort of”.

After a few moments of silence between me and James, I shifted my gaze to the side car window to my right and watched the cars go by, as we began the drive back to camp.
