Mistake (completed)
On My Way Home

I started to pack up immediately but it's still taken a week. I called Leon after I cleared my head and had half my shit packed. I told him about my dream and what Gabe and Angel said and he didn't even question it.

He just told me he'd have Cadence at the bar the night I get back. It was one of the only places I didn't get glared at and thrown out of. I still wasn't welcome but it wasn't horrible.

I'm about six hours away when I see a car broken down on the side of the road and a girl kicking the door in frustration. There is almost no cell reception out here so I pull over.

I get out of the truck and she turns and looks at me cautiously.

"Hey, do you need a ride?"

"Tony?" she squints at me.

"Uh yeah"

"It's me, Rayne"

I think about it for a moment. I remember now, she was friends with Cadence. Now that I've seen Cadence's photo I remember seeing her around.

"You were a freshman when I was a junior".

"Yeah!"

"How's it going Rayne?"

"Ugh. I'm alright I guess. Dated a loser and now I'm running home," she sighs "or I was until this shitty beater I bought died".

"I'm headed back there now, you can get a ride back with me".

We begin moving her few boxes and suitcases over, "you're. A life saver".

With everything moved she gets in the truck and we start driving. She begins chatting and asking me questions like if I found my mate. It kind of makes me laugh.

"Yeah that's why I'm going home... well to your home town".

"What do you mean?"

"I almost made a huge mistake and I'm trying to get back before I lose her for good".

"Wow, who is she?"

"The most beautiful amazing girl in the world, Cadence Richards".

She squeals excitedly then she stops and asks "what was the mistake?"

"You heard about Gabriel and Angel?" she nods and says she's sorry for my loss, "well everyone including my whole family has shunned me except Cadence and her brothers".

Rayne asks "why aren't you with her now?"

"I didn't want her to live life as the mate to the outcast or lose her family because of me so... I rejected her".

She cringed and tisks at me. I can tell she wants to say something. It she's thinking about it a lot. We actually ending up driving for like twenty minutes before she finally decides to speak again.

"Wow... You do know she's been in love with you for forever, right?"

"I do now. That's why I'm going back right now".

"Lucky for me" she laughs.

"It's actually a really good thing. You could have been stuck out there for days."

When we are about two hours away I call Leon so he can get Cadence to the bar. He said he'd already talked to her an hour ago and after some convincing she was on her way.

Thank the Goddess for that. Without Leon's friendship here I'd be screwed. I want her back, I just pay I don't lose her before I get there. It would be just my luck for her to accept my rejection as I get my shit together.

Rayne sleeps for most of the final hour. That fine with me because I still need to figure out what I'm going to say.

I wake her when we're a few minutes out and she asks if I can drop her off at home. I do and after I help her unload her stuff I head off to the bar.

Cadence

Leon called and asked me to come to town. He said he wanted to spend some time with me since I live to far to see everyday.

"I'm here what do you want?"

"Oh come on sassy you spend all your time with André out at the cabin so Griff and I never get to see you".

I glare at him he knows how hard all this had been on me but I do understand what he means. The only person I have been spending time with is André.

"Still having bond issues?" he asks.

"Yes. I had hoped Antonio would come back but it's been so long I'm not sure how much longer I can keep feeling like this".

Leon seems shocked by me saying that.

"I'm sure he'll come back. Just give him more time. You know I'll help you out however I can".

Leon waves at Riley to get a me a beer, it better be infused. I need a buzz.

Griff sits down "yo Riley can you grab me one too".

She nods and grabs a third while Griff takes off his jacket.

"Hey Griff, how's it going?"

"Good, how are you?"

"Surviving."

We chat for about an hour and I start feeling tired. I'm about to ask Griff if he can drive me when some of the patrons started pointing and whispering.

I give them a weird look but shake it off. Right after they scurry away I realize I know that scent, it's filled the whole bar. I slowly turn around, afraid that if I turn around faster he'll be gone.
