Happy-Fucking-Birthday

Last night before I went to bed I got a call from Leon letting me know that his sister would be stopping by today to invite me to her birthday party. That is the only reason Diego and I didn't almost have a heart attack when there was a knock at my door. I won't lie he is a bit more agitated than usual and I'm not really sure why.

The closer to the door I get the harder he is to fight off. I open the door and immediately know why. Cadence doesn't seem to have noticed yet and just starts talking before I have a chance to say anything

"Hi Tony. I wa—" she stops and looks me in the eyes, "Tony?" she asks, barely a whisper. I try to close the door but she stops me by sticking her foot in the door and pleading

"Antonio, please don't hide from me".

I sigh and open the door "Cadence I am no good for anyone, especially you. You should go".

I close the door but I hear her outside the door begging me not to hide from her, not to push her away.

She's crying and Diego fights me to open the door and make it all better, he only gets the door open before I'm able to get full control back.

I look into her beautiful sparkling orbs, "This is for your own good. You deserve someone who will make your life beautiful, not burn it to the ground." I can't resist caressing her face as I say it, she is truly beautiful.

I take a deep breath trying to steel myself "I, Antonio Rodriguez, reject Cadence Richards as my mate".

The tears fall faster as she clutches her chest then she says "I, Cadence Richards, accept Antonio Rodriguez as my mate".

No! what is she doing? Cadence tells me she wants me and she'll be here when I'm ready. Cadence runs back to the work truck and speeds off.

"I'm sorry." I say to myself as I turn to get ready for my day.

Wiping my tears I hop out of the truck and head inside. Leon is working which surprises me, I thought dad was here today. I ask Leon and all he says is dad called him to cover him but he hasn't actually seen him.

Leon turns his full attention to me and asks "How'd it go?" I'd think my red puffy eyes would be his answer but apparently not.

I tell him that Antonio isn't going but it's fine because I'm not going either. He tries to tell me I can't miss my own party but he's wrong. I can and I will.

Leon asks where I'm going. He should know but I reply "mom's cabin". Leon walks around the counter and kisses my cheek, "be safe, I love you Cade".

Work is done and I head home to pack a bag praying I don't see my father. Luckily for me he seems to be out. Once my bag is all packed I go to the grocery story and the gas station to get fuel for the generator.

My dad built the cabin for my mom when she was pregnant with Leon. Mom always joked that he couldn't deal with her mood swings so she would go rest at the cabin while he handled the shop with his parents.

The cabin is about a twenty minute drive away from Tony's, the urge to stop on my way is overwhelming and nearly impossible to ignore but I have to. I'd love nothing more than to run my fingers through his hair and kiss his very kissable lips.

I make it to the cabin after my party had started. I didn't cancel it because everything had already been set up so I told Leon to make sure everyone had a good time.

Dad called a hundred times but I am ignoring him. I need time to think, or not think as the case may be.

With the generator now filled and my bag in the bedroom I make some hot chocolate to take to the little balcony, sit in my favourite seat and read one of the seven-hundred books I have downloaded on my phone. Today's read is about a sexy cowboy.

A while later Emara is feeling restless and I hear something in the water a ways from here so we go find out what it is. I spy a bear catching fish... trying to catch fish he seems a bit distracted. He looks over in my direction and I stand.

It's a bear shifter and with how wound up I'm feeling I can tell it's Antonio. He shifts back, completely naked in front of me, my heart flutters and my stomach flips, he looks like he's going to come towards me but he turns and starts walking away.

I take a step towards him "wait, don't go. What are you doing out here?"

He stopped and turned back "Diego likes to wander around, as long as he doesn't get into trouble I don't control him. What are you doing out here?" he asked in return.

I point behind me "my mom's cabin is just over there". He looks surprised for a second but then apologizes and starts to leave. I don't want him to go. I run to him grabbing his arm to stop him.

He takes he hands away, leaving me feeling cold, shifts back and heads towards home. Emara is upset and I am to. This should be the most amazing time in our lives but instead it's a time of deep anguish.

"I can't" I say to myself as his bear fades in the distance. He really has no idea how much I love him.
