My Eternal Mate
Chapter Twenty Six

LYRA

For the next couple of weeks, we laid low, but doubled our guards. Alexander had spoken to Jonathan after that day in the closet, and the Alpha of Sirius Pack had confirmed that his beta and the beta's wife had asked for a 'much needed rest.'

Alexander hadn't taken that lightly, however. And since that day, had changed his routine completely. He would be out of the door before I woke up to attend training and only return in the evenings. He worked so hard that I tried not to get on his toes most of the times, even if I wanted to.

In the meantime, I had trained the rest of the fighters and continued to attend to the orphanage. I had formed a bond with Kai, and almost loved him as if he was my pup. Aspen was still kept on trial, but I could tell that Alexander was warming up to him.

He for certain loved to wind up my mate, though. Especially when it came to me. Aspen and I had discussed our friendship, and he told me he liked getting a reaction out of Alexander.

I had just finished training for today, when Ava appeared in my sight. Grinning, she strutted towards me. "Hey," she said, waving.

"Ave, hi," I replied, heading towards her. "What are you doing here?"

The auburn haired girl sighed. "I hardly get to see you these days, and I knew I would find you here, so hi."

I chuckled softly at her words before I wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "Well, thank you. I'm glad you're here."

"Is everything okay with you?"

I raised a brow at her as we began making our way back to the house. "Of course. Why would you ask?"

She shrugged. "I don't know. You seem so rushed all the time, always on the move to do something. The guys noticed too. I'm a bit worried."

I narrowed my eyes at her. "The guys?"

"Mhm," she hummed, nodding her head. "You know— Matteo, Zynthéa, Jax, Evan and I. It's like the light in you is slowly dimming."

Her words affected me more than I thought they would. She was right. My silence after her words was evidence of that. Being a Luna wasn't easy, and it particularly wasn't easy, when I spent most of my days worried about my mate.

Alexander and I saw each other for a couple of hours, if that, in the evenings before he would knock out from exhaustion. I couldn't complain because our pack needed us. I could wait. For some reason, the more days that passed, the more clingier I became for him.

"I'm just busy with the pack," I finally told her, dismissing the topic before my vulnerability could show. "What have you been up to?"

Ava eyed me curiously for a second before she replied, "Just the usual. I'm waiting for this feud to end so I can go ahead with the wedding planning."

I gave her an apologetic look, feeling bad that this was affecting her marriage plans. "You know you can go ahead—"

"Don't say it," she interjected, cutting me off. "Lyra, I would never have it in me to get married at a time like this."

"I know," I chimed in. "I just don't want you to feel like the option isn't there."

She smiled, sweetly, before wrapping an arm around me. "Thank you for the gesture, but even if I went ahead now, no one would really enjoy themselves. Everyone would be on edge, and that's not the wedding I envision for myself."

The rest of the walk back to the house continued with Ava talking about what she wanted for her wedding. I remained silent, listening and praying for this possible war to end quickly so my best friend could go ahead with her plans. It saddened me that because of me, she was affected.

I was surprised to find her accompanying me to the house when recently, she had been too busy to come by. All of us were too busy, and I missed all of my friends and family, so I was glad when Ava kept me company.

As soon as we approached the house, my brows furrowed when I caught a glimpse of my friends inside of the house— including Alexander.

I glanced at Ava in confusion, but the girl had a smirk plastered on her face. It was daylight, the time couldn't be past three in the afternoon. Did they know something that I didn't?

Before I could question anything, Ava tugged at my hand and made us jog towards the house. I yelped in surprise when she flung the door open, making me stumble a couple of steps, only to be settled in Alexander's familiar large arms.

"Hello," he beamed, smiling down at me when I glanced at him, in horror. "Surprise, baby."

I blinked rapidly a couple of times before the cheering of our family and friends made me pull out of Alexander's embrace. Finally, I searched the room, to find all our close friends and family present, with our house decorated as if we were having a party.

"Have I missed something?" I asked, glancing at Alexander, questioningly.

At my words, he wired his arms around my waist and pulled me close to him. He was wearing a grey shirt with black trousers, looking out of this world.

“I know that you haven’t spent time with your friends lately,” Alexander elaborated, his ocean blue eyes boring in to mine. “I wanted to do something special for you when recently, things have been really tough on you.”

“Alexander,” I gasped, already feeling tears accumulate in my eyes. Before my tears could spill, I wrapped my arms around him and buried my face in his embrace.

Alexander chuckled softly, before he tightened his arms, holding me firm as he peppered kisses on my temple.

“I hope you did not think that I was neglecting you,” he murmured, lowly, before he placed a lingering kiss on my temple.

“Thank you,” I replied, pulling back to meet his blue, gorgeous eyes. “This is exactly what I needed, I hope that’s okay. I don’t want to put the pack at risk.”

My mate shook his head, before he brushed his index down my cheek. “No, baby. The pack are safe. Do not worry about them, alright?”

I nodded, before he dipped his head down and pressed his lips on mine. The kiss was soft and gentle, and quick when Dyami tore us apart from each other.

“Dude, save that stuff for later,” he complained, before he pulled my mate away. “Nice to see you, Lyra.”

I waved in response, my wolf angry at him for taking our mate away, but I couldn’t ponder on it for too long when Zynthéa attacked me with her embrace, with Luca jumping up and down next to us, wanting to join in on the embrace.

Seeing my friends and family was exactly what I needed right now, despite the fact that we were in the midst of the chaos. I hadn’t seen them properly for weeks, because everyone had been so on guard.

Towards the evening, we cooked a feast, and everyone had just finished eating when they decided to call it a night. We bid our guests goodbye, before Alexander excitedly guided us to our bedroom. Many positions and pleasures later, I was cuddled up to him on the bed.

“I have missed this,” I told Alexander, when we were finally catching our breaths, with me pulled up against his chest.

Alexander hummed in response, pecking at my head, his arm around me tugging me closer to him. “I have missed you, baby. Being the Alpha can suck big time if it means I am missing out on times like this with you.”

I chuckled before I placed a soft kiss on his peck. “I mean, it’s not like we have kept our hands off each other, but having you present mentally is definitely nicer. You have been so absentminded recently.”

“I know,” he muttered, sighing. “Things were hectic, but hopefully moving forward—”

When his sentence cut short, I frowned at his sudden silence, before I raised my head to question him when he raised his index to his lips, indicating for me to remain silent.

What? Who is it?’

Alexander glanced at me, frowning, before he shook his head once. ‘I do not know. But wait here. I will be right back.’

Someone was here? Surely it was one of our family or friends, and I found it hard to let go of Alexander when he pulled away, but my mate moved swiftly, grabbing a pair of boxers on the way, before he disappeared from our bedroom.

I was confused; the house was soundproof, how had he heard anyone? An uneasy feeling settled in my gut, and I sat up abruptly, trying to see if I could hear my mate.

When a loud commotion filled my ears, I flung my legs on to the floor, before I grabbed my night gown off of the edge of the bed and headed towards where the sound had come from.
