Despite the internet storm back home, Esther remained unfazed. She stayed in the hospital room, guarding Pixie with the protection of her bodyguards.
As Pixie's anesthesia wore off, Esther grew increasingly anxious. She gazed at Pixie with unease, unsure how to face the awakening child.
Esther gently touched Pixie's hair, her face revealing a bitter smile of helplessness.
She tried to reassure Pixie, to let her know she was her mother. However, Pixie fiercely bit Esther's hand as it reached out.
"Bad person, let go!"
Awakening and still weak, Pixie sat up in the hospital bed. Her gaze warily fixed on Esther as she cried out, "Mommy! Daddy!"
Esther had imagined how Pixie would react upon waking up, but this reaction was unexpected.
"Pixie, don't be scared. I'm not a bad person!" Despite her hand's pain, Esther reassured softly, "Really, I'm not."
As Esther moved closer, Pixie grew more frightened, curling under the blanket. Seeing Pixie in a ball under the white cover tugged at Esther's heart. "Pixie, can we chat?"
Esther tried to touch the blanket, but Pixie forcefully pushed her hand away.
Pixie's strength surprised Esther. She stumbled into a cabinet, causing a glass of water to fall and shatter.
Hearing the noise, the bodyguards outside swiftly opened the door and asked with concern, Ms. Quill, are you alright?"
Esther replied in worry, "Could you please call a psychologist for me?"
"Of course."
Esther did not dare approach Pixie any further. She was deeply worried that her would intensify her emotions.
"Pixie,
you don't need to hide under the blanket. I'm moving away now."
Esther slowly distanced herself from Pixie.

After a while, Pixie cautiously peeped out from under the blanket. Her little face was flushed, and she looked at Esther with extreme vigilance.
That gaze pierced deep into Esther's heart like a knife.
Esther took a deep breath to calm herself. She sat down on a chair and smiled encouragingly at Pixie, asking gently, "Pixie, are you thirsty? Hungry? Would you like to eat something?"
