Time Passes

A week passes....

My routine quickly falls in place with classes in school and home. The bright spots are of course Chemistry class and working with Logan on the weight bench. I am getting a little stronger but want to watch so I don't beef up like a body builder. Wolves will do that and its not a look I want for myself.

I am standing in line for lunch and Min slips into line behind me ignoring the dirty looks and comments from the other students nearby. She has a concerned look on her face. "What's up Min, you look upset" I ask. "I just heard through the grapevine that Logan is hooking up with Kim Johns, they are running around with their arms around each other and she is trying to shove her tongue down his throat. I wanted to tell you first so you would be prepared when you see it." she looked at me with regret in her eyes while she told me the news.

My guts felt like they were being ripped out with a dull knife while I stood there and tried to take it in. "She is a short, chubby human with a BAD reputation, what can he see in her?!" I exclaimed. Min agreed with me "you heard what she did the first day on the tech bus to the football players right? She was giving blo.." "Ok, I interrupted her, I heard and don't even want to go there, what a gross hog! He obviously didn't hear or doesn't care."

I slipped out of the lunch line and headed outdoors to the lunch tables that were set up outside during decent weather. I slid down a large tree and sat under it trying not to let my emotions get the best of me and burst out crying. Min followed me out and sat beside me "are you going to be okay?" she asked. "I just need a minute to take it all in, what an appetite killer!" I exclaimed.

Min asked me if I would be ok while she ran back in and grabbed some food, "what, she said defensively, I am starving from not eating breakfast!" I smiled painfully at my friend and sent her in to get something to eat. I glanced over my shoulder to see if she was coming back when I saw Logan standing in line with Lisa wrapped in his arms. I felt a pain stabbing in my heart and a huge lump formed in my throat. I hid back behind the tree and stuck my head between my knees gasping for breath trying to pull myself together.

Min came back out 10 minutes later and found me in the same position. I looked at her with tears in my eyes. "I can't deal with seeing them together right now, I'm going to skip out and go home." I practically sobbed. I snuck around the trees in the courtyard and made my way to the tree line. As soon as I was in the forest I took off toward home. I know there was going to be heck to pay when my parents found out but I just couldn't face being around the new couple the rest of the day.

I unlocked the house and ran to my bedroom where I could finally let go and cry. I heard someone come in a half hour later, my Mom started calling my name as she started up the stairs to my room. I called to her and she came into my room to see my swollen eyes and tear streaked face. "Oh honey, what is going on? Why did you skip school this afternoon?" she asked while pulling me in for a comforting hug.

I started sobbing harder and told her between sniffles what had been happening. Mom nodded and mumbled half to herself "I wondered if this would happen. You will be 18 in 2 weeks and you will be more sensitive as time grows nearer to find your mate." "Does that mean Logan is my mate" I asked. "Not necessarily, she answered, your Aunt had feelings for another guy but it was her human part and they disappeared as soon as she met her true mate." "So it might not be him, I pondered, then I have wasted these years crushing on him!"

Mom hugged me again "you never know, the moon goddess has an awesome mate picked out for you but you won't know for sure who it is until your birthday. Your wolf will make sure you know too. Your Dad came up to me and my wolf went crazy!" "I remember that story, I said, he gave you a big sloppy kiss and you pushed him away and told him you have plans for the future and not to get any crazy ideas about you being barefoot and pregnant!" Mom laughed, "that's right and see how things worked out for us, just because you find your mate doesn't always mean it isn't a rocky road to the happy ending."
