Chapter 4

Frank returned to the Johnston Court late at night, visibly exhausted.

The butler truthfully reported Maria’s situation. Upon learning that Maria did not leave Johnston Court all day and only left her bedroom once, Frank’s eyebrows furrowed. “Assign her some tasks tomorrow,” he commanded.

“What kind of tasks should be assigned to her?” the butler inquired tentatively, trying to understand Frank’s intentions.

Frank’s ink-black eyes, seemingly nonchalant yet frosty, glanced at the butler. “If I need to arrange such things myself, what would I need you for?”

“I understand. I will arrange some tasks for Miss Greenwood tomorrow.” The butler shuddered, not daring to say more.

Frank walked briskly towards the kitchen. The butler followed him closely. The butler had assumed Frank wouldn’t return since Maria was there, so he had let the chef leave after dinner, not leaving any food for Frank.

Unexpectedly, Frank came back and headed to the kitchen. The butler became even more anxious. “Mr. Johnston, should I call the chef…

“No need.” Frank knew the chef would leave some food. He would eat whatever was available. There was no need to wake the chef to make a trip.

With one hand, he opened the refrigerator. His icy gaze swept over the contents. His eyes locked onto the plate of grilled steak placed in the corner instantly.

He picked up the plate and handed it to the butler. “Reheat it.”

The butler breathed a sigh of relief. He had thought the chef hadn’t left any food for Frank but now assumed the chef had made some food secretly.

Without hesitation, he placed the steak in the microwave, set the time, and delivered the reheated steak to Frank in about a

minute.

Frank sat elegantly at the dining table, his stern face focused on the stock market trends displayed on his laptop.

He cut a slice of the steak and put it into his mouth.

The steak was infused with herbs and wasn’t too dry nor too overcooked. It perfectly suited his taste.

The chefs in his family’s five-star hotel could cook grilled steak with even more skill, but the taste was always restaurant-like.

However, this had a unique flavor and a nostalgic taste. He thought about it and decided that it tasted like home.

It reminded him of the one his grandmother used to make when he was a child.

“Who made this steak?” After gracefully putting down the fork, Frank raised his chilly gaze and looked directly at the butler standing not far away. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the FindNʘᴠᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

The butler was taken aback. ‘Wasn’t it made by the chef? If it was not made by the chef, then who?’ he wondered.

The butler’s clueless expression made Frank’s eyes darken slightly. “Find out who made this.”

“Yes, sir.” The butler agreed hastily. There weren’t many people at Johnston Court, and even fewer could enter the kitchen.

Tomorrow, he would gather all the servants and inquire to find out who had been there.

After finishing his dinner, Frank wiped his lips elegantly and exited the stock monitoring app on his phone.

He stood up and walked upstairs.

Frank opened the bedroom door, and upon doing so, the bulge on the bed caught his icy gaze. He narrowed his eyes slightly.

‘Damn it. Why is this woman lying on my bed? Is the butler good for nothing? Why hasn’t he arranged a room for her?’ he fumed silently.

Dark fury gathered in Frank’s eyes. With a cold expression, he walked over. When he spoke, his low, magnetic voice was full of displeasure. “Get up!”

The person on the bed remained motionless.

Frank’s gaze deepened. His long fingers grabbed a corner of the blanket, giving it a forceful tug.

The blanket covering the woman’s body was pulled off and thrown onto the floor.

His sharp gaze eyed the woman who was in bed. His fingers grasped her delicate wrist, attempting to throw her off the bed as she slept soundly.

His cold hand that gripped her wrist felt exceptionally hot. Frank’s eyebrows furrowed. He released her wrist and lifted the long hair which covered her face. Her flushed cheeks came into view. Her feverish face was reflected in his pitch-black pupils.
