In the study, the butler reported to Frank that the grilled steak was made by the maid Karen.
Frank showed little expression, continuing to focus on his work.
His slender fingers swiftly moved across the keyboard, and he emotionlessly said, “Got it. You can leave.”
The butler dared not linger and promptly left the study.
The only sound that remained in the study was the tapping of keys on the keyboard.
Time slipped by quickly. When Frank finished his work, it was already past two o’clock.
He raised his wrist, massaging his tired forehead. He closed the laptop and stood up, walking briskly towards the bedroom.
Upon opening the door, he spotted the woman lying on the bed and furrowed his brows.
He had been too preoccupied with work earlier and had forgotten that he was now married.
Paige, who was by Maria’s bedside, stood up when she saw Frank, looking at him cautiously. She whispered, “Mr. Frank, Miss Greenwood’s fever has subsided a lot. She hasn’t woken up yet and hasn’t taken the medicine.”
“Understood,” Frank responded indifferently. He walked towards the bed.
Looking down at the still-sleeping Maria, his expression remained indifferent, but his eyes revealed complex emotions.
Their first meeting flashed through his mind. It was the day he found out the address of the girl who had saved him..
On his grandfather’s orders, he had come for a visit.
Maria wore a simple dress that day. She stood in the courtyard with her long hair flowing past her shoulders, surrounded by blooming roses.
With her head lowered and her long hair covering her eyes, she stood motionlessly, like a statue.
When Frank entered, the sound of his footsteps startled her.
Maria lifted her head. When she looked at him with her clear, watery eyes, like a startled little animal, his protective instincts. were inexplicably stirred.
More than anything, there was an inexplicable familiarity. Those panic-stricken eyes seemed to be deeply engraved in his
memory.
Later, Frank learned that she was Maria Greenwood, the eldest daughter of the Greenwood family.
However, her name was Maria, not the person he was looking for, named Nina Greenwood.
He also learned that Nina was Maria’s half-sister. Compared to Maria’s gentle and charming demeanor, Nina appeared sweeter and livelier.
After he met Nina, she recounted how she had saved him in the past, the time they spent together, and the badge that was engraved with the last name ‘Johnston’ he left for her after his departure. All these details were explained clearly, particularly the badge he had especially left for Nina.
Frank promised Nina that, when he came of age, he would return to Riversouth City to marry her.

Maria, out of jealousy for Nina, maliciously pushed her half-sister down the stairs, leaving Nina in a coma.
Furthermore, in her quest for the title of Mrs. Johnston, she drugged him, took advantage of him, and revealed it to his grandfather.
After meeting Maria, his grandfather, for some unknown reason, was convinced that she was the girl from years ago. No matter how Frank explained, the grandfather remained unmoved.
Because of the pressure, Frank had no choice but to marry Maria.
However, when Nina woke up, he would divorce Maria at any cost.
Frank’s eyes were cold and filled with icy determination.
He seemed to hear Maria seemingly murmuring something in her sleep.
He leaned closer to catch what she said and heard Maria utter a name in her sleep.
