Chapter Eight

“This place is amazing.” Of course, Caine would like Victoria’s Secret. I figured I would start at the mall I grew up in, somewhere I knew that was safe. I’ll start here, buy some basics and some fun stuff before heading to Chicago to go to the more high-end stores, hopefully not wearing camo sweat pants and a t-shirt with holes.

“You are like a kid in a candy store.” He probably didn’t understand the reference, but it’s true. We walked into the mall and he had wide eyes that darted around, luckily at 11 in the morning, it was still a little early for most people to be here. “Don’t touch anything, if you like something point it out.”

I had intended for him to point something out in the next store where we could find stuff for him, but that wasn’t the case when he started pointing out a shit ton of bras, panties, and lingerie items. A saleswoman started to help us once she noticed me following him around the store. Within twenty minutes, between Caine and the women I had a ton of lace and silky things to try on. Sure I hadn’t helped by adding some things of my own. Caine was sad to know that I wasn’t going to model any of it for them, we didn’t have the time to. There’s so much I want to get done, I basically did a speed run of trying things on and then buying it all.

Sadly, bras, panties, lingerie, pajama sets, and sportswear didn’t take up much room, three decent-sized bags is all. I decided to go to the car to put it all away and headed back inside.Taking my phone out of my pocket I dial Marcus’s number while keeping the blond in my eyesight. Marcus must have been waiting for the phone call, he answered at the start of the second ring. “What have you got?”

“I’ve been following her all day, I also have someone else tailing her in case I lose sight,” I tell him on the phone, not looking directly at her, I lean back in the chair at a little coffee shop just across the walkway of the store shes in. “Want to hear everything?”

“You share and I’ll share what I’ve got after.”

“Last night after the one house I sent photos of, she went to a different one, spent the night, and this morning it looks like she moved out. She was with that woman, went to the blue house, and immediately left, this time with a man.”

“A man?” Marcus questions, which got his full attention.

“I don’t know if it’s her boyfriend or what. He’s my size, but there’s something odd, he moves like he’s about to beat the shit out of someone and he’s covered in scars and tattoos.” The guy looked like he fights illegally for a living, or decided on going through a large blender. Marcus doesn’t speak on it, so I continue. “They left and went to a phone carrier store, left with a small bag and went to a Mcdonald’s, sat in the parking lot for a while, and headed out to a mall, I’ll email the address to you.”

“Shopping trip?” Marcus questions, I make an agreeing grunt of noise and he hums. “Anything else? Stores they’ve been?”

“Victoria’s Secret so far, left with quite a few things, dropped it in the car, and came back in. They are in a Hot Topic now.” I had thought Hot Topic was an odd choice for someone moving to the house she was and for someone driving a Range Rover. Though she was wearing camo sweatpants.

“What I’ve found out.” I could hear papers on the other side of the phone, Marcus had a great memory but from being a lawyer he had to triple-check everything before speaking it out. “She was at the courthouse last night to change her name, I pulled a few favors and got both names. The old one is Emma Victoria Rose, all morning I had been digging things up and all I have are a few school records, a driver’s license, and a bank account she shared with her mother. I think I found a Facebook profile but it hasn’t been posted to in years.”

Interesting.

Marcus doesn’t stop, once he starts talking it could be hard to get him to shut up. “I’m going to dig more into her old name. Her new one is Luna Morningstar Tyet, odd to be honest. But that’s not the oddest thing, there have been multiple fillings, her name is on the deed to that blue house already, along with some other properties in the state. It’s going to take me a while but I could find out more, though I’ll probably need help, there’s only so much I can do.”

“You got a lot more than I thought you would.” I sip the coffee I had bought and watch as she pointed at a t-shirt high up, looking over to the guy she was with. “Do you want a play-by-play? “Play by play, go, full stalker, I’m very interested.” Both of us seem very interested in a woman that neither of us would normally go for. I had never been into the goth emo style, until last night. And Marcus, Marcus normally dated models or other attorneys that looked like models. The fact that she had both of us interested, made me more curious.

“I’ll keep you updated,” I said before hanging up on him. This was going to be a fun day.I totally didn’t have a teenage moment in Hot Topic, I restrained myself from buying everything to only buying one bag worth of stuff. I would probably end up going online to buy way too much later tonight. The next stop was H&M, a store I never really got anything at before, I just had an idea. When we walked in Caine noted. “This store is very different from the last.”

“Just wait until we get to Spencer’s, I think you’ll love that one.” I had to stop the snickering, the idea of taking a demon into Spencer’s was funny. “For now, I want to get more girly clothes, girlie, dressy, preppy.”

“I don’t know what that means for this time period.” Caine shakes his head and I sigh. He was helpful with picking out lingerie, but this I would need to do on my own or ask someone to help me. Sure I loved girlie clothes, I just never had the money to buy more than the essentials.

“You should look for some clothes, do you remember the sizes of your pants and shirt?” Gaining a nod from Caine I push him towards the men’s section. “Pick out things in your size, a few at a time and we can try stuff on.”

Watching him take a few steps into the sea of clothing his face all twisted up I wanted to laugh. I would have to help him later, for now, I turn to the women’s section. There are a lot of yellows, mints, and lilac purples indicating spring was almost here. I went straight to those, picking out a few color options, and then went out to find a top or bottom to match. It didn’t take long, when you don’t have to look at price tags it takes half of the worry out about finding something to get.

Caine walked up to me, a few things in his arm that he had picked out, one thing catching my attention. “Leather pants?”

“Faux leather.” He clarified. “What is a faux? I know fox but it’s spelled oddly and these aren’t made from fox skin.”

“Faux means foe, like fake. So fake leather pants.” I hold my hand out, he digs them out to show them to me. “It’s frowned upon by some people to make clothes out of real leathers or furs now, but if you do want real leather or fur it’s really expensive. If you like these we can try to find real ones somewhere else later.”

“We will see how much you like them.” Was he trying to make a pass at me? He could have had me last night but instead held me in his arms as he fell back to sleep. Now he was worried if I would like to see him in leather pants. Which I probably would like to see... okay really like to see.

“Go try on your stuff, make sure it fits and you like how it looks, we can show each other later.” Caine raises his brows at me, probably thinking about me showing him the lingerie rather than the actual clothes.

It took us an hour to try everything on, get more, try it on, and then I helped Caine with basics like underwear and socks. It would be so much easier when he gets the ability to magically change his clothes, but I can’t deny shopping with a guy who seems to actually like shopping is fun. I end up wearing a new set of clothing, high wasted pleated pants made of a white colored crepe material, they are loose in pleats and look like a skirt when I’m not walking. The shirt is a cute cropped lacy lilac purple bralette thing, I picked out a white cropped lightweight jacket to go over it and found a small white leather backpack. With my all-white shoes it looked like something I would have never worn before, but the high wasted pants do make my ass look amazing.

Caine went a very different route, he choose black jeans with ridges in them, a gray t-shirt with a v-neck, a nice black bomber jacket, and some plain black sneakers. After a little accessory shopping, we left with our arms once again full and made our way out to put stuff in the car.

“Where are we going for lunch?” Caine asks me and I have to think about it. Brunch was very heavy and filled with salt, so something lighter would be nice.

“There’s probably something inside, we can go look at the directory,” I said as I shove the last bag in the back of the trunk, it wasn’t even a third full yet. Sigh.

“I think I saw something about tacos, those are popular right?” Caine asks slamming the trunk closed and taking my hand to drag me away back to the mall. I had to laugh because I think he was thinking about Taco Bell, there goes my wanting something light to eat out the window.

He hustles me inside and to the escalators to the basement floor, not bothering with a directory. We end up at Taco Bell and I order a few things and two of their freezes. Within minutes were at the edge of the food court at a table with two trays filled with food and I have to shake my head at the scene before me. “You are a food addict.”

“There is just so much to try.” He unwraps a taco and takes a large bite out of it before opening a hot sauce packet and then trying the taco with it. “This sauce is great, could be hotter.”

“This is an Americanized Mexican fast food, I’ll take you to get real Mexican food soon,” I said putting some of the Diablo hot sauce packets on his tray, that one is my favorite hot sauce. I pick up one of the tacos, put on some hot sauce and eat it while he finishes his and finishes one of the small burritos. “We still have a few places where I want to go, I don’t think we will make it to the city and the high-end shops today.”

“Then we spend all day here, eat fast food, shopping at the many places, tomorrow we can dress up and go to those high-end places.”

“And eat high-end food?” I question with a smile and he nods taking another bite of food. “I wonder if you can get stomach aches, because after this much Taco Bell a normal person would feel like they are dying the next day.”

Caine looks down at the trays of food, a curl falling into his face. “This food can be really that bad for you?”

“It’s probably some of the most unhealthy food you can get,” I said picking out the crunch wrap before he can get his hands on it, then grab my blue raspberry freeze. “We can get Chinese food for dinner, like Panda Express, it’s a little healthier for you, they at least use fresh vegetables.”

Caine nods, because his mouth is full, after he swallows he takes a long drink of his strawberry freeze, when he sets it down he asks. “What other stores do you want to go to?”

I think about that for a moment. “I would like to go to Spencer’s, probably won’t buy much there but I want to show you it. JCPenny and Journey’s for shoes, maybe Zumiez and Vans, we will have to see what other shoe stores there are, all I know are the sneaker ones. We can go to Hollister and Macy’s for more clothes, I think those are the main ones I want to go into, but there will probably be more.”

He just stares at me with those big dark eyes, unblinking. “We need more Blood to carry bags out.”

That makes me break out into a loud laugh. I did need more Blood, not just for carrying bags out, but that would be very helpful. “I love shoes so if we have to go out to the car ten more times I’m sorry.”

There’s a groan from him, I laugh again. I knew he was having fun, maybe I’ll take him to the actual candy store soon.
