Who am I?

I was conscious. No idea why I couldn’t move or open my eyes but I was alive. I was still fuzzy but I could just about make out what people were saying.

A boy said, “now what”.

Then this female voice, who I presumed was Ash said “we can't do anything until she’s awake so I guess we wait. “

“I hauled her all the way here and you can't even tell me why.”

“It’s not safe and you know it there are ears everywhere and people hidden in the trees.”

“ UHHH! FINE. But I’m not the one who gets to introduce her to everyone. You know what happened last time.”

I heard footsteps leading off into the distance and then Ash spoke, “you may not know it but you will come to do great things.”

She just sat there, I think. After about a minute of silence, I was able to open my eyes. To my surprise, I saw a welcoming smile not just from Ash but this boy as well. I was in the middle of the woods.

Ash helped me sit up then asked: “so what did they call you then?”

I just sat there. I hadn’t spoken in years. I can't even remember how. I just stared at her. She seemed very calm with me, not answering, but the boy, on the other hand, looked frustrated.

I tried to speak but it all sounded a bit weird. “ void”.

The boy walked over and asked, “ what’s your mystic ability?”

“You mean you don’t know I don’t believe this so you mean to tell me you don’t know your power?“ I shook my head.

I didn’t know what to think. What power? I’m not special I’m just an ordinary, unimportant, insignificant orphan. Or was I?

Ash came over and spoke to the boy rather harshly, “Flint chill out she has been through a lot.“

“And we haven’t! I’ve stared death right in the face and so have you. We have seen horrors no child should see, yet here we are.”

“You can't expect her to know anything.”

I was just baffled. What were they talking about?

I tried to get a word in edgeways “Why would you call me a mystic?”

Ash stood still and looked down, then spoke, “So you know how your family died... well it was weird wasn’t it, no normal death. It was exactly 247 days after your seventh birthday. This is the day all mystics get their powers. You will have no idea it's happening and no recollection of the incident. Your powers left a huge sphere in your house. A void. Only a mystic could do something like that. Void I know what your power is. We all have an element of some sort. I’m fire, he’s earth and you are Ethera .that is the ability to control space and time. You must have summoned one to you that’s why your parents were gone.”

I took a step back in fear I stared down at my hands and looked at them. I was terrified. I ran away screaming “WHO AM I ?!”. They both ran after me but I kept bobbing and weaving until I saw a fallen tree then dived under it. They saw me do it and called for me at the entrance. I just moved further and further back. Trying to hide from them. Flint called down “ if you want to come out we will make a fire. You are welcome to join.”

I didn’t want to leave so I curled up in a corner for a while then slowly drifted off.
