Chapter 4

I stepped outside the cabin and rushed into the woods, then I smelt something that stopped me in my tracks the smell of human flesh, I could hear slurping and sounds of eating nearby, I followed the noise and there was my brother feasting on a woman's arm , I sighed and shook my head and said "Ember, what the fuck are you doing?" Ember turned around, his eyes were crimson red his fangs were covered in blood and bits of flesh, he looked up at me and said sadly "I was hungry Cole, when did you get here?" I stepped towards him and gathered him up in my arms I said to him "I'll explain everything when we get back, right now you need help." Ember sighed and fell asleep. Blood was dripping his mouth. It didn't affect me the way it affected him, I finally made it back to the cabin, I stepped inside and placed Ember on the sofa and made my way to the bedroom and Emerald was on the bed asleep naked still from earlier, I shook her gently to wake her up she groaned and woke up her eyes fluttered open she said sleepily "did you find him?" I nodded, she smiled and then remembered what she'd said earlier about the questions Ember would have to answer and her smile faded she said angrily "where is he?" I kept her on the bed by straddling her and said "it's best you stay here, he's not in his right mind at the moment, I found him in the woods he was eating a woman's arm. He needs help. And I know him better than you do. You've only known him a year , honey I've known him my whole life, this a pattern for him that keeps repeating. He's an addict." Emerald gasped and said "ok, I understand. How do you help him?" I answered gravely "by taking him to the barn, it's a long trip you can come if you want. If you're not squeamish. There will be dead bodies everywhere, I guess you could call it exposure therapy. It's worked in the past, but it's been so long now I don't know if I'll succeed in helping him." Emerald said "I'm sure you will. And of course I'll come with you. I enjoy your company. Did you tell him about you and me?" I avoided eye contact and said "not yet. When he's more stable I will. I may be unstable myself most of the time, but I do have a heart believe it or not Emerald. I'm only an asshole when necessary." Emerald smiled, maybe she likes bad boys, who knows. We'll see how it goes after the trip. I got off her and then leant down to kiss her forehead.
