All at once, red lights lit up on the CIC. Enyo jerked up, snorting her sleepiness away, and started to press buttons to try and stop the red lights.

“Oh no, no, no, no. Blue lady, please explain the flashy lights!”

Belle appeared on her holographic panel, sighing. “My name is Belle, Agent Enyo. These lights mark zones of distress within Isis Station. I’m afraid the station is under attack by the Wight Initiative.”

“That sounds bad,” Enyo said. “That’s bad, isn’t it?”

“Agent Tartarus is exceptionally vulnerable to this threat, as am I, but the rest of Olympus should be safe so long as they remain calm.”

“Locate all crew members and agents,” Enyo commanded. Belle complied, lighting up crew members as purple and agents as green.

“Agent Zeus is with Philicia Faransai, Marcella Masters, Minnie Warsaw and Junior in the Commerce District. Agent Zeus has many Alliance marines present, but they will also face the bulk of the threat.”

Belle lit up the red lights more to emphasize the point she was trying to make. Enyo grumbled as Belle continued.

“Agents Epione and Dionysus are with Riley Wilson and Rohan Gunn. Vitals suggest that Epione, Dionysus and Riley have increased adrenaline levels, and Rohan is unconscious.”

“Where’s Tartarus?” Enyo asked. Belle lit up Tartarus’s light, a green beacon in a sea of red.

“He became separated from Isaac Cross and Allyra Jubei, who are on their way here. Unfortunately for us, they are also leading three squads of Wights to our ship.”

“Who’s still on board?!” Enyo said, grabbing her handgun from the table and cocking it.

“Agent Thanatos and Kurt Traverstine are still healing in the medical bay under Dr. Refik’s care. Eliza Fargood is still on board.”

“Are there no marines? No combat personnel?”

Belle’s silence was telling. Enyo would have to defend the ship alone. Once again, she was outnumbered in this unusual world.

She missed her home.

But she could not shirk her duty.

Her squad needed her!

“Belle, train the guns on the ramp and fire at all Wight targets,” Enyo said, leaving the bridge. “Eliza, I require your assistance to defend the Cerberus. Bring anything we could use to make traps.”

Eliza stuttered over the radio, but Enyo cut her off. “No. It’s only you and I. I require you to be brave, ‘drug’. Those in the medical bay require you to protect them now.

Enyo walked past the mess hall, stopped, and looked inside. Abigail was asleep on a chair, her feet on the table. Enyo walked in and slapped her leg off the table, making her wake up.

“We require your skills as an ‘ubiytsa’," Enyo said seriously. “Or you will die with us when the Wight Initiative come to the ship.”

“The Wights are here?!” Abigail said, instantly on her feet, sending the chair rocketing the the wall. “We need to leave the port.”

“We cannot leave Olympus Squad,” Enyo said.

“You don’t understand,” Abigail retorted. “Belle is a fountain of Alliance knowledge. If the Wights get her, they will know everything she does. You need to think about everyone in the galaxy.”

Enyo blinked. That was true...

“I want to save the others as well,” Abigail continued. “But you need to move the ship away now. If the Wights get Belle, it’s over for a lot more than Olympus.”

Enyo closed her eyes, thinking through what she was told. If she left now, not only was she abandoning her squad, but she would be stranding Allyra and Isaac in the hangar with squads of Wights behind them.

“You’re right,” Enyo said quietly, then spoke to Belle. “Prepare for departure, blue lady. Eliza, change of plans. Please go to the bridge.”

Abigail nodded as Enyo left the mess hall.

“No!” Isaac screamed as the Cerberus pulled away from the dock and made a hasty retreat into the depths of space. He put Allyra behind a shipping container, then spread his wings aloft as he waited for the Wights.

“They will not get you.”

The three squads of Wights entered the hangar, and saw the demon ready for battle. All sensors focused on him.

“Eliminate tar-”

CRASH! A shuttle from outside the hangar smashed full throttle into the squads of wights, instantly flattening them. Isaac blinked at the wreck, then slowly approached as the door opened.

After a column of smoke billowed out of the shuttle’s interior, Enyo rolled out, coughing profusely and giggling.

“Hahaha... Yes! ′Otvali’, stupid robots.”

“Enyo?” Isaac said, walking over and helping her stand with one arm. “Are you crazy?”

“Possibly!” Enyo said, breathing out. “But we are alive, and we have friends to save. The ship contains a fountain pen of knowledge that the robots cannot have.”

Isaac furrowed his brow. “You mean Belle, right?”

Enyo nodded, then grabbed the rifles from the shuttle. “We must find Tartarus right now.”

A gunshot rang out through the hangar. Isaac pushed Enyo into the shuttle as the bullet his him in the back. He growled like a monster, ripped the door off the shuttle and threw it towards the gunshot. Another squad of Wights had entered, and two had been killed by a flying shuttle door.

“I’ll hold them here,” Isaac said, grabbing one of the rifles and firing at the Wights. Enyo leapt out, ignoring Isaac entirely, and charged at the Wights.

“What are you doing?!”

Enyo pulled a jar of black liquid from her belt, and threw it at on of the Wights. It shattered over it’s chest, but was unaffected.

Enyo hid behind cover, ignoring the two bullet holes in her armour, and hit a switch on her rifle, changing the type of ammunition it fired. She slid out and fired at the Wight she had hit with the jar. Like a flower of flame that enveloped the squad, the liquid ignited and exploded, blowing the Wights higher than Sputnik, into as many pieces as a pineapple grenade.

“Woo!” Enyo celebrated, before groaning as the shower of blood and metal washed over the hanger, and her. “Dammit, the shampoo on the ship sucks...”

“Holy crap,” Allyra said from behind her container. Did we win?”

“′Da’,” Enyo said, wiping a piece of intestine from her armour. “But there are more in the station. We need to focus on finding Tartarus.”

“He was with us in the Red Light District,” Allyra offered. Enyo pulled her PDA out and checked the map. Tartarus was still there, but moving towards the hangar. At least he seemed to be alive.

“I will go and meet him. You two stay here. We will turn the hangar into a final line of defense.”

Enyo left the elf and the demon behind as she followed the map, stepping over the gore pile.

Tartarus walked down the street, covered in human and Wight blood. They had been unable to hack into his head again, but his movements through the street had been a blur. He couldn’t here anyone...

He was enjoying the murder of Wights. Not for forcing him to kill those civilians. It was different. He was enjoying taking their lives for reasons he didn’t understand.

“Tartarus?!” he heard from behind him. He stopped in the street and turned his head to see who had called his name in his peripheral vision.

“Enyo,” he acknowledged. “Are you a hack or are you real?”

“I’m real, stupid,” Enyo said, walking forward. “We need to get you away from here before the Wights get you.”

“They already did,” Tartarus said. Immediately, Enyo rose her rifle at him, and Tartarus pointed his handgun at her. A standoff in the destroyed street between two members of Olympus.

“Explain,” Enyo demanded.

“They got in,” Tartarus said. “Alice helped me push them out, but I killed some people. And I think they changed me...”

“Are you still you, Tartarus?” Enyo asked, keeping her rifle trained on him. “I can’t afford to bring you to the others only to have you kill them. Are you still you?”

“He’s still him!” Alice said in Enyo’s comms quickly. “Don’t kill him, he’s just in shock.”

Enyo and Tartarus stared each other in the eyes, daring the other to lower the gun first. Then, unprovoked, Tartarus lowered the handgun and holstered it.

“Alice is... helping me. But she’s right. I’m still me.”

Enyo nodded, lowering her rifle carefully.

“The ship is gone to protect Belle, but we are gathering at the hangar. I sent all the survivors I found there. You and I are together in this, Tartarus.” S~ᴇaʀᴄh the FɪndNovᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“What about the others?”

Enyo filled Tartarus in about the other members of the crew and Olympus. He absorbed the information, but none of it seemed to interest him. Something really had changed him.

“Now let us go, Tartarus. We have work to do.”
