O.M.G: Oh My Gravity
Ready to Go

The light blinded my eyes after walking through such a dark hallway. It flooded the training hall which was now packed with what looked like every Super Human that was housed here. I gazed around at the many excited faces gathered in the training hall, my hopes lifting once again. I was beginning to get annoyed at the indecisive nature of my emotions. I saw children of all ages chatting away excitedly, practicing their magic and suiting up for the big mission in space. These kids really were ready to save the earth from the sun, which was now so bright and close that the heat was beginning to make its way into S.H.H.

At the sound of Shadow’s and my own footsteps, each head, one at a time, turned around to see who had entered. As their eyes scanned over our faces they all began to clap and cheer, grins stretched from cheek to cheek, eyes sparkled with admiration and determination. Shadow’s soft hand rested in between my shoulder blades and her lips formed the words, “I’m so proud of you.”

I turned back to the many faces in the hall and held up my hand, trying to signal them to stop screaming.

When the hall was quiet, my ears began to ring and every eye in the room was on me. I smiled and cleared my throat, getting ready to give them instructions like a true leader.

“Hey everyone,” I began. “I would like to thank you all for coming today under such short notice. It really means a whole lot that you are here because I thought I’d be alone in this. During my time here I’ve learnt a valuable life lesson that I never thought I was capable of learning and that is valuing each moment because you never know how long it will last. You have all been so welcoming to me and I wan’t you all to know that you are all special and I know we can do this.”

I looked to Shadow and smiled slowly.

If it wasn’t for her, I thought, I would have never learnt that lesson.

“So,” I continued. “Let’s get down to business, we can’t afford to waste anymore time by listening to boring, scattered speeches. Now we need to get organised into power levels so those with the highest power get into one group and so on so forth. Then we will get the ships ready.”

I still had to figure out what ships we were going to use and I didn’t want to freak the whole hall out because I had no ships. Then, right at that moment, a question I was dreading was just asked.

“What ships?” someone yelled and my heart sank.

I looked around the hall trying to come up with a good excuse for the lack of ships stationed at Super Human Headquarters. I searched in the deepest, darkest corners of my mind but I simply could not find any excuses that were good enough.

But then, out from the crowd stepped my brother.

“My ships of course,” he stated, matter-of-factly.

I looked at him wondering what ships he had but then remembered his power of imagination and I had no doubts. My brother was going to save the world. I smiled at him and gave him a thankful look to which he flicked his up his thumbs in my direction and sunk back into the depths of the crowd.

“Okay,” I began. “Thanks, Daniel. Now, the Special Operations Crew are over here with me. The rest of you sort yourselves out and let me know when your ready... Because then it will be go time.”

Hands clutched arms, arms hooked other arms, and other arms wrapped around shoulders. It was a messy tangle of Super Human limbs. It was hard to make out who was who and what was what but I could immediately make out the Special Operations Crew making their way towards Shadow and I. It was as if they were engulfed in some sort of fiery light. Shadow grabbed my hand and clenched it tight, smiling at me. Her smile reached all the way up to the corners of her sparkling blue eyes.

“I’m proud of you,” she said, leaning her head on my shoulder. I sighed with a large smile on my face as I watched the Special Operations Crew approach me, Daniel leading the way waving his arm over his head.

“Are you ready?” he asked, clapping me on the back with a strong hand.

“As ready as I’ll ever be,” I replied, looking up at the rest of the crew. Tyler was smiling sadly and holding Emily’s hand, his frosty white hair hanging limp around his shoulders. Xavier was standing off to one side, holding what looked like dirt and petals in his hand. Gale and Twista were staring at me intently, a soft wind tussling their hair. So this was the Crew. Standing here all together now, they possessed a sort of radiating power as they stood strong and ready.

“It’s nice to finally meet you all,” I shouted slightly over the frantic voices erupting throughout the training hall. They all just stared at me waiting to hear orders. “Right. Now I see you’re all suited up, so all that’s left to do is get the ships and pray for the best. Did you all warm up your powers?”

They each nodded and shuffled their feet. I looked at Shadow for some help with an innocent smile.

“Daniel,” she said politely. “Do you mind getting your ships?”

He smiled excitedly and closed his eyes holding his palm out in front of him.

There in front of us stood two rows of shimmering green ships materialising out of thin air. I stared, mesmerised while the others stood there like they saw the same thing every day... which they probably did.

“Thanks,” Shadow said and turned to face everyone else. “Everyone, I need you in the ships and ready to use your powers on Alex’s command. We need to be quick. GO!”

I turned to her and gave her a tight hug whispering in her ear, “thank you.” I pushed her back and pressed my lips to hers ever so slightly and turned to the rest of the training hall.

“Hey!” I shouted trying to be heard over the commotion. But not one Super Human heard me. “Hey!”

Still no one turned around.

Gale and Twista came up behind me and whistled, creating a wind so forceful that it sliced through the air creating an ear piercing sound. Everyone stopped and turned towards me.

“Thanks, twins,” I said and smiled. They nodded their heads and made their way back to the ships, heads low and walking fast.

I looked to all the expectant faces.

“The time has come,” I said, whispers beginning to spread amongst the Super Humans. “We have to get in the ships now before it’s too late. Good luck and thank you for doing this. Now go.”

Each person rushed to a ship and jumped in. I wasn’t sure if the ships were big enough to hold everyone but I trusted that magic would take care of that. I began to walk toward the ship when I felt a small tug on my pant leg. I looked down to see Dallas staring up at me.

“You can’t come, boy,” I cooed. “Space isn’t for dogs.”

I leant down to pat his head but the dog collapsed onto the ground and began to shake.

“SHADOW!” I screamed my hands trembling as I tried to pick up the dog. Shadow came running out from one of the ships and fell to her knees in front of the dog.

“Dallas!” she sobbed, grabbing his body. “We can’t do this now! Come on, get up!”

But then he stopped shaking and the unexpected happened.

The dog fell from Shadow’s hands and writhed on the floor his shape getting bigger and his fur falling out. His limbs twisted and turned until a whole new form lay in front of us.

A boy.

His curly red hair shone in the flaring sun and his blue eyes sparkled as he looked up at us and smiled. Shadow screamed and hid behind me as I approached the boy with an outstretched hand.

“Dallas?”

“Nice to meet ya,” he said with a heavy American accent. He grabbed my hand and hopped up, his ripped jeans hanging from his waist and his bare chest sparkling with some sort of glitter.

“What are you?” I asked him, holding Shadow’s hand protectively. “What is your power?” sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FɪndNøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Well,” he said. “I just found out that I’m a shapeshifter. One day I turned into a dog and I never found out how to turn back until now when you needed me most.”

“What can you turn into?” I asked.

“About anythin’, really,” he said smiling. “I can shift my shape into whatever.”

I nodded and gestured to the ships. “Go on.”

His smiled got wider and he ran excitedly to the ships.

Soon enough the hall was empty and everyone was waiting in silent anticipation in the dark recesses of the space ships not knowing if the moment they were in was going to be their last.

I just hoped that this would turn out fine... I didn’t want to explain to my parents how I died otherwise they’d kill me again.
