Chapter 10 ~ He Just Didn’t Care

He called King Draco.. waiting for him to answer.. when he did.. Bruno spoke in code “Thirty flitting by pilfered transport. Assuming internal alterations of procedures. Will update when deed is done.”

What he told the King was he had thirty weres inside the facility by hitching rides on the supply trucks entering the compound. They would disable all security measures, before the others would enter and destroy it.

The same occurred with Area 51. The only reason it was possible is because no one expected King Draco to move so quickly. Pogue was left only two options.. Camp David.. and the bunkers there. Or fleeing to another country. Draco doubted Canada would be an option.. as they had always supported the supernatural world.. actually used them for various reasons to aid their government.

Within three hours, the word came down the pike. Area 51 and Sunflower were under control of the supers.. and movement by the American military was on the move. National Guard from every state had mobilized.

Dave came in to the conference room “Turn on the television. Pogue is pissed! He’s coming apart at the seams. This war is such a joke.. and I have developed mad respect for your methods King Draco.”

Draco laughed and said “Call me Draco, Dave. I consider you a friend! I am grateful for everything you are helping us with!” Dave shrugged “I pride myself on my values, Draco. I always fight for right. What Pogue is doing.. is as far away from right as we, as humans can go.”

When the television tuned into Pogue.. he was literally screaming at the cameras.. Accusing the supers of massacring everyone at Sunflower and Area 51. Telling the humans over two thousand were dead. When, in reality, not one person died.. the three hundred at Sunflower.. the thousand at Area 51.. were forced to walk to the nearest town. No injuries.. other than maybe a few blistered feet.

As everyone sat down to dinner, the alarms sounded. Blake ran in.. “Military breach.. southern border. Maybe five hundred on foot.. “

Evander ordered “Ready your wolves! Dragons! Take to the air.” Adrianna and Aurora geared up.. handing Avery to Connie.. Adrianna ordered “All noncombatants to the bunkers! Lincoln stay with your mother.. Connie.. you and Jacob need to go live.. report what’s happening by watching the monitors.”

She ran and jumped on Braxton’s back and Aurora was on Asmodeus.. Dave rode Bastian.. Caleb’s wolf.. geared much the same as Adrianna. Naomi’s dragon, Avril circled the air overhead.

They lit out for the southern border.. arriving within minutes to the sound of sniper fire and grenades exploding around the supers. Draco roared in anger.. charging into the fray.. as Adrianna and Aurora reached the trees.. Climbing up and getting seated. Dave in a tree nearly directly across for the girls.

Aurora was firing arrows from a crossbow.. in deadly accuracy. Taking down a soldier with every launch. Adrianna was using a compound bow.. her arrows were equipped with Bowmags.. exploding on impact. She fired directly into groups of five.. maybe ten.. dropping the groups with shrapnel.

Evander and Caleb were taking down two soldiers at a time.. wading into the center of the fracas.. while Adrian ripped off limbs.. tore out throats. Avril was breathing fire.. raining down on troops like a flame thrower.

Within forty five minutes, the battle was over.. around two hundred human troops fled in retreat.. while the rest lay dead.. or dying. The supers had lost about twenty.. with twice that many injured.

Aurora noticed Anderson.. lying on his side.. gasping to breathe. She ran for him and turned him onto his back. A gaping hole in his chest. She cried out, and Draco was at her side in seconds. He examined the wound.. shaking his head. Evander walked up.. holding Dave in his arms.

Draco examined Dave, he had an extensive wound to his stomach.. again, he shook his head. Adrianna looked at them both “I can help Anderson.. the Lake doesn’t heal humans.”

Evander shifted into Argon.. and they secured Anderson to his back. Adrianna climbed aboard and help him securely.. as Argon soared into the sky.

Draco knelt beside Dave, speaking quietly “As a human, Dave.. you will most certainly die. I can help.. but only with your permission.. and request.” Dave gasped out “I’m not ready to go.. you can help me? How?”

Draco smiled “I would change you.. you would have to agree to become wolf. Asmodeus’ venom is too volatile for a human.. I can’t turn you into dragon.”

Dave asked “You can do that? Why didn’t we know?” Aurora whispered “Because we have only done it a few times.. it isn’t common knowledge or practice. Only the King has the proper venom.. so only he can do it.”

Dave said “Please? I am not only asking.. I am begging! I need to see the end of this war.. I want to help the supers.. save the humans.” Draco nodded.. he told him “I am not going to lie. This is going to be painful.. I have to administer three separate bites.. at four hour intervals.”

Dave tried to laugh.. choking on his own blood “As painful as being gutshot?” Draco nodded “By ten times.” Dave shrugged “Do it! Please? Save my life. I will happily give my life debt to you.”

Draco released his canines.. piercing Dave’s jugular.. emitting Asmodeus’ venom into his bloodstream.. as Dave screamed.. he removed his teeth.. Picking him up, he ran for the infirmary. With Aurora on his heels. He had ordered werewolf blood to be hung and ready.. they needed to replace what Dave had lost from his wounds.. and human blood would no longer be compatible.

In the meantime, Argon had just landed at Luna Lake. Adrianna dismounted and stripped to her underclothes. Evander was already naked.. They rushed into the healing waters, just as Zander joined them. The moon had barely crested the horizon.. as they began the process of saving Anderson’s life.

Back at Draconium, Anderson’s parents and family were told he may not make it. Bridget was doing her best to hold it together.. until Amelia said “He should have come with us to the bunkers like he was told! This wouldn’t be an issue if he knew how to listen!”

Even Lincoln looked appalled.. Bridget lost her shit. She throat punched Amelia.. then proceeded to beat the shit out of her.. requiring both John and Chancey to pull her back.

Chancey looked at his only remaining child.. and spoke “If our Alpha survives this, I will beg him to reject you.. as he should have done after Lincoln was born! I will do everything in my power to see you banished and declared rogue!” And before Allison could open her mouth in protest, Chancey uttered “I Chancey Griffin, former Beta of Sacred Moon, reject you, Allison Meadows-Griffin, as my mate now and forever.”

He walked away.. not hearing if she accepted or not. He found he just didn’t care.
