Chapter 16 ~ Please! Don’t Cancel!

Evander’s POV ~

We are on the fifth day of identifying and locating the families of the the dead test humans. Every one we have spoken to have sent falsified death certificates.. claiming death by a supernatural attack.. or training accidents.

We have yet to locate even a false autopsy report on any one of the 1003 deaths. Mom is waiting until we have located all the families to file a class action suit for wrongful death against President Pogue and the federal government.

She wants to be able to file criminal charges, the same time as the civil suit hits the docket. The media will have a field day. Connie and Jacob having the exclusives.. and all the inside intel.

A mind link from a southern border guard came through 🐺 Alpha, you are needed at the border.. Now.. we have an issue.

Adrianna and I shifted and ran for the border. Arriving, we shifted back and dressed.. Standing outside our fences, were hundreds of servicemen and women. A Captain stepped forward and asked “Alpha Arconium?” I nodded, letting him know to call me Evander..

He said “We are requesting asylum. Technically, we are all deserters.. and AWOL from our bases. So, I need you to be aware.. we are all fugitives.”

I laughed “Technically, we are on the outside of your president’s laws, as well. If I grant sanctuary.. what do you bring to the table?”

He said “I am Captain Simon Spellman of Fifth Infantry division. Two hundred of these men are mine. The other three hundred are from other bases.. other platoons. I am highest ranked, so they are, more or less, following my lead. We have highly skilled marksmen.. demolition experts.. and all of us are trained in hand to hand combat. We are offering our services to you. We will gladly fight by your side, should this come to open warfare. We can no longer follow such a corrupt regime.. Pogue is no longer our president!”

Adrianna said “Where are you all coming from? Were you called up to the base camp being constructed outside of Anchorage?”

Simon nodded “Many more have deserted.. although we are not aware of where they’ve gone. Hopefully to other packs, to request asylum. When the newscast was being aired, Pogue demanded all televisions and monitors destroyed. We streamed it later.. on our phones and tablets. We lost brothers and sisters in those labs! We want answers! And we know we will never get them from Pogue!”

My mate said “Be forewarned. You will not like what you hear. Pogue has authorized heinous acts against humans. In Hitler-esque fashion, he was trying to create a superior race. He believes supernatural beings are solely driven by bloodlust.. incapable of the conscious thought and intellect of a human. He couldn’t be more wrong. Our intelligence is on par.. some exceeding human IQ..”

I said “Your asylum is granted.. with the provisions you do not betray us.. and you fight to defend and protect, should we be attacked again.”

Captain Spellman said “Agreed” and shook my hand. We walked with them, back to the pack house.. where Mom and Dad greeted them.. and Blake took them to where they would bivouac. Dad asked the Captain to join him. He told him to record everything he was being told. He would play it for his men.. so that they all may know what has happened, right under their noses.

Dave walked in the conference room and Simon jumped up and hugged him.. “Dave, I thought you were dead! We were told you perished in a raid on Arconium!”

I looked at Dad, shrugging. Dave laughed “Once again.. the reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated! Draco, Evander.. Simon is my cousin! He and my brother went Army.. I stuck to Air Force.. like my dad.”

I laughed and told him, of course! Simon turned and asked “How long has Dave been with you?” I responded “Since we destroyed Eielsin. He chose to come with us.. We had rescued him from his downed F16.. and allowed him a vehicle to return. He decided to join us after the airstrike that killed some of my pack.”

Simon nodded “He’s always been smarter than the rest of us! He would always choose the side of right. If you’ll excuse me, Alpha.. King.. I need to inform my men of what you’ve divulged. Is it possible to go to the website and check the list of our fallen? I think some of us may know a few.”

I said “Absolutely.” Handing him a card with all our contact information on it.. including the website. As he walked out, Dad said “That was a huge surprise.. A pleasant one.. but surprising. I would love to be a fly on the wall in Pogue’s quarters.”

I laughed “I visualize his entire one man war falling apart!” Dad nodded and said “Let’s go find our women! I’m in the mood for cuddles!”

I groaned “Eww, Dad. Why must you be such an over-sharer?!” He laughed “Oh grow up! How do you think you got here? And what? Avery is a product of divine intervention? Damn, son!”

Adrianna and Mom were sparring.. and I noticed my beautiful mate was taking extra care to protect her tummy. I mind linked her 🐺 Baby? Is there something we should talk about? She grinned.. her whole face lightening.. 🐺 Yes! Now that you’ve spoiled the surprise.. I guess I can cancel the romantic dinner I had planned for tonight!”

I ran over to her and scooped her up.. spinning in circles “Noooo! Don’t do that!? Please! Some alone time with you? A whole evening of just us two? Please! Don’t cancel!”
