Chapter 14
Enjeru
I’ve been locked away in solitary confinement for God knows why. As soon as I arrived back to Libra I was dragged here kicking and screaming. No one seems to remember that they’ve locked me away in this room, but I don’t know why I expect more. These people don’t care about me.
I curl up on the cold floor thinking about what I had done hours earlier. I could have let them die. Well, Syaoran and Jake would have lived since they’re immortal, but I could have let the rest of them die. And yet because of Jake, I saved them all. Because he would have been sad had they died I kept them alive, but what thanks did that get me? Locked away in a padded dark room all alone.
“You’re going to open this fucking DOOR OR I AM GOING TO RIP SOMEONE’S FUCKING HEAD OFF!!!!!” I hear screaming outside.
I can’t help but smile as I listen to Jake go on a tirade about the guards having the nerve to lock me up. Then the locks begin to click and I sit up not believing that the doors are opening. As soon as they’re wide enough Jake comes running in and kisses me on my forehead before pulling me into a hug.
“I’m so glad you’re okay. When we got back they said you were being locked away and they wouldn’t say where. It took Micah and the others to convince the council that you had left like that to save us.”
“Wait, who?” I say pulling away.
“Micah, Alice, Syaoran, and I went to Jakob to explain things. When we did he asked for your immediate release.”
“Why would they help you to save me?”
“Because we’re grateful,” Micah mumbles as he enters the room.
“Had it not been for you I would have lost my team, no my family so..…….thank you.”
“I agree you saved me from being stabbed to death by Jake so I’m very grateful. Though I kinda liked you from the start.” Alice smiles.
“Thank you for healing me even though I’m sure you knew I’m an immortal as well.” Syaoran grins.
“And thank you for stopping me. I would have hurt some of the people I care about had it not been for you.” Jake smiles softly.
“I….I….I..”
I look between all of them and they all seem genuinely glad I was there. Even Micah has a small smile on his face, I feel welcomed.
“She only did it to save her own ass. Look at all of you kissing up to the little demon girl. So what if she saved some lives doesn’t mean she’s a saint now.”
The feeling of being welcome disappears as I remember the true face of this group.
“ANGELIQUE!!!”
All eyes turn towards Micah who is surprisingly furious right now.
“You will hold your tongue if I remember correctly she saved your ungrateful ass as well. So shut the fuck up and leave if you’re going to be a bitch.”
She looks offended, angry, and saddened all at the same time. She turns on her heel and leaves her ponytail bouncing wildly as she storms down the hallway. We all look at Micah in awe.
“What?!” He blushes.
“Who are you and what have you done with the Micah from a few hours ago.”
“Look….it’s just…..maybe I was……….wrong….about….you Enjeru……so I’m…..sorry,” he grumbles blush running rampant now.
I stare at him not knowing if he’s being genuine or just showing off in front of his friends.
“I’m glad I’m not the bad guy in your eyes now.” I reply confused.
He nods before walking out leaving the rest of us alone.
“So what just happened I ask Jake?”
“Well after you left Micah broke down crying saying how he was a terrible leader and person. He started begging me to forgive him for how he acted, but I told him I wasn’t the one who he should be begging. At first, he didn’t want to apologize because he’s very proud even if he knows he’s wrong. And secondly, he didn’t know how to approach you.”
“Well if I treated someone like a fucking ragdoll I’d be nervous to talk to them too.”
“Anyway, I think you healing everyone and defending them really struck a chord with him. I mean for as much as you hate us you allowed yourself to be injured and killed another demon aristocrat just to save us. I think he’s finally realized you have a heart too. Now I’m not saying he’s going to change overnight, but I think you’ll see some change in his attitude towards you.”
“I don’t know Jake. You know how I feel about trusting humans. No offense Alice.”
“None taken you haven’t really had good reason to trust us. After all, humans aren’t so kind either.”
“You’re interesting for a human, you speak as if you’re not one.”
“And you speak sometimes as if you are one. You’re not as weak as you think.”
I stare at Alice hard and she stares back.
“What do you know about me?”
“Only what you show and what you don’t mean to show.” She smiles.
“You’re weird Alice.”
“I get that a lot, Jake thinks so too.”
I turn to Jake and he nods.
“Well, I guess it's only fitting I’m in the freakshow squad.”
“Excuse me I’ll have you know I’m quite handsome.” Jake says pouting.
“I’m sorry baby joker your very handsome. Now can we please get out of here?”
“Sure I’ll treat you to dinner.” Jake smiles.
“So you’re blood, because I’m gonna need some if I want this stab wound to heal faster.”
“Nope but we have the delicacy know as pigs blood in. The cafe.”
“Ewww I hate pigs blood and you know it.”
“Well tough luck buttercup.”
“Fine, but next time I’m just going out hunting.”
“Yeah okay Enjeru.” He says while rolling his eyes.
I can’t help but smile as we walk next to each other. Things almost feel like old times, almost.
