Chapter 29

Micah

Somehow Angelique got Jakob in on the trick, and he assigned Enjeru to the fake case we came up with. She should be arriving in another hour, and we’ll be here at her mother’s grave waiting. That way she knows she’s not alone.

“Maybe this wasn’t such a stupid idea Micah.” Angelique smiles.

“Oh, but on the contrary, I would have to disagree. Loki kill them.”

Enjeru

I can’t believe my luck. Having to go there on today of all days, but I can’t say no to Jakob he’s the whole reason I’m free. So I just smiled and said I would take the job. I’m now regretting that choice as I watch the sky shift from blue to black. A storm is on its way and I can’t help but feel something terrible is going to happen.

All I can see are flashbacks. My mother’s blank eyes as they stared up at me covered in blood. Her blood and that fucking dagger. The dagger I made to protect her ended up killing her, oh the irony of today. I stop for a moment looking up at the sky. The first drop hits me in the middle of my forehead then the rain starts to pour down in fat heavy drops just like when I ran from home. Little is visible through the screen of rain, but I’m able to find my way to the cemetery entrance. Yanaka Cemetery the place my father chose for my mother due to her love for the Sakura trees here. Kiro told me that during Obon the Sakura around mother’s grave look the most beautiful out of all the trees, but I’ll never see it. This will be the one, and only time I ever visit this wretched place.

I step over the threshold, and immediately I freeze.

“No…”

I start running. There’s an overwhelming sense of death more so than usual at a cemetery and all the auras associated with it feel familiar. I arrive at the beginning of a small path, the path to my mother’s grave from what I’ve been told. I tread slowly wanting this to all be a terrible dream. For this all to be unreal, but when the path ends I see my worst fears. I fall to my knees looking at the bodies in front of me. All my friends, my family they’re all gone. I force myself up stumbling over to all of them but stopping at Micah. His olive complexion has disappeared leaving a deathly pale tone on his skin. His eyes are now dull seeming almost colorless. I take his hand, but it’s frozen. I shake my head not wanting any of this to be true.

“Aww is sister going to cry now? Poor poor Enjeru all alone now. All her friends are dead, and it’s all her fault.”

I grip Micah’s hand tighter. This can’t be real it can’t be.

“Oh believe it sister, and it’s all your fault just like how mother’s death was all your fault. It’s always your fault. You’re a danger, a hazard, everywhere you go you bring misfortune. That’s why you need to return home I can help you. Only I can keep you from misery.” He smiles.

“Shut up...SHUT UP!!!!!!!!” I scream glaring at him.

I pull my blade out ready to fight him, but it’s almost like a hand is placed on my shoulder pulling me back. I turn, but nothing is there. That touch was so familiar, but it couldn’t possibly be.

“Choose your own path Enjeru.” A soft voice murmurs.

“How can I choose my own path when I’m at the edge of the world. Mom, or God if you’re there answer me, please. ” I whisper.

“Enjeru remember you are not just darkness you have light. In you as well.”

“Mom?”

“Let your light shine baby girl.”

I bite back my tears and look towards my mother’s grave.

“Thank you, om,” I whisper.

“So what will it be sister will you just continue to talk to yourself like a mad woman, or will you make me pay?” Kiro smirks.

I take a deep breath closing my eyes.

“Lucifer. . .”

“I already know what you plan to do but this is dangerous even for you Enjeru you may actually die if you do this. I’ve never allowed you to use my true power because it drains your life force in order for it to work. Even an Immortal needs life force.”

“It’s a risk I’ll take if it can bring them back.”

“Then it is yours. Your Mother was right you know there is always a light now matter how deep the darkness may seem. I found that light in you, but now you must find your own.

“Thank you, Uncle. I love you and I’ll miss you. Please take care of Micah for me.”

“Only because you asked nicely.” He sighs deeply.

I reopen my eyes and look Kiro directly in his.

“Kiro I will not fight you, but I won’t let you take them from this world.”

“What can you do to save them you have nothing. . .” He stops then stares at me hard his eyes going wide after a moment.

“ENJERU!!!! what are you doing?!?!? You can’t you’ll. . . .” Kiro’s words fade as a bright white veil engulfs me and everything around it. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ (F)indNƟvᴇl.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Micah

I jolt up feeling slightly sick and lost. I look around to see everyone else in the same state of confusion. Angelique seems the most shocked as if she’s trying to figure out why she’s here. But then my eyes land on a figure in the center of us all. Large white wings, and long wavy white hair. The angel stands in a single beam of light being cast down from the sky.

“Over here quickly!!!”

My eyes turn to the voice, and I see Jake run into view. He stops in his tracks as do the reinforcements. He stares a the figure in shock and awe.

“Enjeru?” He gasps.

She turns to Jake before facing me and she smiles. Her lashes are a snowy white, her normally lavender eyes are a soft honey color. She appears to be radiating light. I begin making my way towards her and I reach for her, but she shakes her head and soft flakes of light cascade off her body with each movement.

“Enjeru why can’t I touch you.”

She just shakes her head again her light seeming to fade a little and her eyes getting dull. Then she crumples to the ground in a heap. The light from the sky disappears. Leaving only darkness now. Before I even recognize what I’m doing I have her body in my arms and I know she’s gone for good.

“Enjeru what did you do?” I cry.

“She used Lucifer’s true power. Light. His name means the Morning Star and his real power has always been light. The problem is only his original body could withstand the power so he never allowed Enjeru to use it for fear she may die from use, but I don’t know why she would have done something so reckless.” Jake whispers.

“She saved us. We were all dead, but she brought us back. She brought us out of the light using her light.” Angelique replies faintly.

I face her now lifeless body. I keep willing her to wake up hoping this is all some sick nightmare, but she doesn’t move.

“Why did you do that, you idiot. Why did you give up everything for us? You said you were immortal you liar.” I cry hugging her body tightly.

“Micah. . .”

“NO!!! I WON’T LET YOU LEAVE LIKE THIS!!! YOU PROMISED YOU PROMISED YOU WOULD BE HERE!!!!! Please, please, please don’t leave me. . . .”

“Micah she’s gone. I’m sorry, but we have to take her body. . . .”

“Wait.”

All eyes turn toward the unknown voice, and there’s a woman. She seems familiar and the reaction Jake has tells me he knows who she is. The woman walks over Enjeru taking her from me before laying her on the ground. She places a hand gently on the side of her face.

“My child you are still needed here on earth. There are too many who depend on you. Return to this world child. Return home, my daughter.”

Then she’s gone. The women who was once there is gone. I look at Enjeru’s body expecting her to rise up, but there’s nothing. She lies just as motionless as before. I turn away trying to fight the onslaught of new tears. I can hear Jake give orders to prepare a body bag and I stumble off in some direction just wanting to leave all of this.

“MICAH!!! NO I COULDN’T FIND HIS SOUL I DIDN’T SAVE HIM!!!” I hear Enjeru scream.

I turn and run back to her hugging her tightly.

“I’m here Enjeru I’m right here.”

She turns to me and touches my face. She pinches and tugs at my cheeks as if trying to see if I’m real.

“But your soul. I could find everyone else’s, but yours. Yours wasn’t there in the light. I thought I was too late and you had passed on. How are you alive?”

“Um, guys.”

We turn to Jake who’s pointing at me. I look to where he’s pointing and scream. I have wings growing out of my back.

“WHAT THE HELL!!!!!!”

I turn to Enjeru for answers, but she seems equally shocked.

“But how I was sure you were human.”

“Enjeru what are you talking about?!?!??!?!”

“Micah the only creatures that have wings like an Angel but black as night are Forsaken. They live forever, We’re immortal beings which means the reason why I couldn’t find your soul was because you weren’t really dead.”

“What the hell are you saying I’m HUMAN!!!”

“No Micah, you’re one of us.” She says pointing at herself.

“But how? This has never happened before.”

“When did you come to Libra?”

“As a baby why?”

“Micah I think Jakob has some explaining to do when we get back.”
